Hey guys,
Just wondering if Daniel Bradshaw would be possible trade bait this year? Just saw a thing that Melbourne might want to trade for a ready made forward, and someone like Bradshaw could do the trick.....just wanted to get your thoughts on it.

For those Brissie supports who didn't already know, Leoncelli has been mentioned in the Herald Sun today as a possible trade for Daniel Bradshaw.

Can't see that happening maybe Chell & a draft pick.
Don't see Brizzy wanting Chell anyway, how about Robbo or Powell?
Do WE want Bradshaw anyway? He played some decent footy down back early in his career but seems to be a full-time forward pocket these days.
Not sure about this one.

I rate Leoncelli fairly highly, although, it's debatable as to whether or not he would be worth adding to the Lions already strong midfield.
Likewise, he's not going to be of long-term service, and therefore the Lions would be best looking at another player.
Robertson doesn't particularly appeal to me, as I feel as though he is too inconsistent, and similarly, while Powell is a star, he has suffered long term injuries in the past, and this may be an issue which needs considering.

I don't remember him featuring too prominently at all down back . . . he's always been a key forward, either of his own standing, or alongside the likes of Lynch and Molloy, etc.
He'd be worth a punt, for any side looking for a ready-made forward. He's shown the ability to dominate games and has experience in a top side. The fact the he isn't getting as many opportunities at present may make him a good trade target.
While Bradshaw won't come particularly cheap, he certainly won't have the price-tag of someone like M.Richardson, or any of the other big-name forwards that may be touted as a possible trade.

I think Leigh has given Bradshaw somewhat of a tough run since he missed the Carlton final because of his child's birth a couple of years back, and unfairly too.
He is often the first person dropped after a loss and I think it is affecting his confidence and therefor performance. So it all goes around in circles.
But when he is in form (strong leads --> strong marks) he is great.
If he goes to another club he will probably kick a ton and we will be rueing trading him. Keep both Bradshaws together I say.
When Lynch retires he should be our main full forward, but I fear it will be a few years time before that time comes, and I think Daniel will get sick of it and want to leave the club before then.

I think that perhaps we will be needing a bit of a more senior player for next year with the possibility of losing some of our seniors. I think a lot depends on where we finish up in terms of premiership this year but possible losses could be Fly, Choppers, and Harty with retirement and Chell could fill one of these gaps rather than looking at the gap Bradshaw might leave. That said his current seniority might be a problem as he is a premiership player and currently a part of the Dees leadership group and I don't think any of our leaders are going anywhere.

No he hasn't featured prominently down back but Leigh has tried to play him there a few times but with little results. So whilst Chell's goal kicking is not always the best, his tackling and running game is pretty good so he could be handy for tagging and running the ball out of the backline to plug the gap left by players like Choppers.
All in all I think a lot could be dependent on who we lose at year end. I wouldn't mind a Bradshaw Chell trade but not in the sense of direct replacement.
It's late so not sure if any of this makes sense plus the fact that I am almost beside myself with excitement at this possibility as Chell is also totally hot!!! Finals fever has a vice like grip and I can't eat, sleep, drink, think or speak coherently at the moment as Saturday gets closer!!
I tend to think that the Lions would be better served chosing a young player at this stage. One of our strengths, is our mix of youth and experience, in that we have a well staggered list. We've only really traded for 'established' players when we've had a 'gap' in our side to fill (ie: M.Michael, M.Pike, M.Martin, etc.). At this stage, even with the prospect of retirements, I can't see that we'll have any major deficiencies in our side (although, that's only a prediction, of course!).
Similarly, unless it is entirely necessary, I don't think we should go along the same lines of clubs like Carlton and Collingwood, who in the past, have tried to maintain their on-field superiority, merely by getting established players from other teams. The Lions have built their strength upon longer-term development, and hopefully this will continue (it certainly seems to be the most effective method, as it has been adopted by quite a number of top sides over recent times - bar a few).
Likewise, while Leoncelli is a good player, we already have quite a few running types who can take over the roles of any retirees at the end of the season. Similarly, it would also be good to see some of our younger players given roles such as these, IMO, or at least, attempt to draft some younger talent who might grow into these roles over a period of time.
Overall, I wouldn't be overly concerned about losing Bradshaw in terms of the role he plays (apart from him being a good player). I think we can fairly easily accomodate another player into his position. With D.McLaren starring in the local competition, he may be able to begin taking on a key position in the senior team next season. Either he could fill in up forward himself, or play in defense and release Leppitsch to the forward line.
