Hirds extracts in the H/Sun...about Dean Solomon..." on a selfish level it was like seeing the premiership slip away"....my thoughts exactly, so if the skipper rates him that highly......
I wouldn't listen to what Hird says. Wonderful player - one of the best I've ever seen, but his ability to rate other players is no different to you, me, or anyone who follows the Bombers closely. We're not privvy to the off-field stuff, but we can all see the on-field impact of a player. It's not as if Hird gets out his laptop and rates each player's worth after each game.
Hird is the master at saying what we all want to hear. He rarely says anything controversial, and always sits on the fence. Remember he is paid to play - not to decide whether Dean Soloman is worth a premiership. His is just an opinion.
It'll be great to get Deano back, but his loss this year seemed to have no impact on our defence. We were one of the best in the league in the back half. He might free up someone like Mark Johnson to play more in the midfield, but I wouldn't expect Soloman's return to be the major reason for our top-4 finish (as you predict) next year.
Oh Soloman's return will help, but he's just a player.

Irreplaceable Dean Solomon.
We have recruit of the year all sown up next year.
Kill someone Deano.
I agree with John.
Dan, Solly can play tall and he can play small. He is more likely to release Wellman further up the ground than M.Johnson. Johnno sees himself as a future midfielder, but he has only been pinch hitting. Solomon's injury put pay to any ambitions he had this season. Same for Wellman in a lot of respects.
Dan ... Solomon was that missing cog. Fletcher might not be our best player (but he is close), but he is by far our most important player. Dean Solomon is an important player Daniel. We may have stopped a lot of goals this season and have continued to be one of the leagues best defences (if not 'the best'). But we have lacked a lot of drive from our defence ... something that had gotten us to two consecutive GFs.
Solly is more than your run-of-the-mill defender.

LOL! Calm down windy, he better not kill anyone, otherwise he'll be away from the game a lot longer than a year!;) :D

He would see a heck of a lot more than we would danny boy. Do you go to every training sesssion? Are you privvy to the behind the scenes stuff that goes on - pre game scouting etc? Post match reports? Video analysis?

 Nah, i wouldn't listen to what Hird says either,
Dress it up anyway you want Daniel, a player's presence amongst teammates cannot be underestimated..........remember Dean Wallis?.........Dean Solomon was a massive loss to us this year.
Statistics aren't everything son.

Turn it up. He's good, but he's not that good. 9th in the B&F after playing every game in 2001.

Did they have laptops in the days when Jack Dyer though King Richard was brilliant? Dan, stats mean **** all.

Well, they're not everything, but they don't mean f*k all. If you get the abll 30 times a game and kick two goals on average you're an asset to the team.
Soloman is just a player. A good, tough hard-working player. Let's not cream ourselves over him.

Ninth for a defender in a very strong year is pretty good going in my book Bro.
Irreplaceable, like Wanganeen, like Lloyd when injured, like Fletcher when stupidly rubbed out, irreplaceable, funnily enough i reckon we cover Hird when he is out with one of his many and varied outs.
No-one stood in for Solly, Mark Johnno did his best, and he was magnificent, but losing his partner in crime......
It will be great to get hm back. Lets leave it at that. Going to the Granny on Sat'day?

Its also good to see other clubs want Harvs as a coach cause we dont want to end up with him coaching the Bombers because we all know he wont make a good coach because of some of the things he has said.

Was all set to go today, in the end made the right decision, stayed home and had a quiet punt. 70 odd thou happy collingwood supporters not a good situation to be in. Will probably lob next week and wipe off $100 on my M.C.C membership.

Funny how norf have this Harvey fixation, they tried in 1992 to steal him off us, offered him the captaincy and a large pay rise to put themselves further in the financial mire. Wallbanger stayed and won a flag the next year, his third, bad luck norf.
Have another go down the track boys.
