So I was at a JB and amongst my DVD haul I got American History X. Unfortunately when I got home I noticed the stupid bitch had left the lock thing in where they open up. Meaning right now I can't get it open. Any tips on how to get this little bastard out?
Take the receipt and DVD back to JBs?

They don't take the lock thing out when you loiter around looking at 1001 Polka Hits CDs, then suddenly grab a DVD and run out the door, knocking over an old lady in the process. You have to go the counter, give them some currency and then they take it off at their leisure. It's a funny quirk they have. ;)

Well she should've moved up the escalator faster.
I got a good haul today though. American History X, Dog Day Afternoon (2 disc), Donnie Brasco, Gallipoli (2 disc) and Chinatown. Only set me back $64

I've used a butter knife to do it once, purchased Curb your Enthusiasm season 5 from Big W when those new locks first came out. Couldn't be arsed going back to get it done, so i cleverly used a butter knife to pry it open..... and i didn't stuff up the case :D :thumbsu:.
I hate it when JB forget to do those big red locked ones. I've had to open up a few of those on my own.
I actually don't like it when they use those types of locks that slot through the case and under the disc itself, i've found that if they get mishandled (which they generally do by the chicks at the counter, yanking them out at a fast pace) - the disc can get damaged because of it.

When I bought a DVD from block buster they left the stupid tag on, I spent 20 minutes breaking the case trying to open it, only to realize that the dvd was kept in by it, ended up taking it back and getting it off, along with a new case.

What's with these things? I got some DVDs last week and saw this for the first time - we couldn't even open the cases. Had to hack them open.
Take it back, not worth damaging the case.
Don't go to some place like Safeway/Woolworths, K-Mart or Big W because they usually give you DVDs with these damn locks. I'm not sure if they are the same as the lock you accidently got in JB Hi-Fi but I got a DVD from there and took it back and they gave me the same locking thing (but it was unlocked). It is still very hard to get open.

ha. The only time it's ever happened to me is when I got Curb seasons 4 and 5 from Big W.
Took them back the next day and got them fixed.

I bought Weeds season 1 a few weeks ago and was unaware of these locks so i took ti home and couldnt get it open took me 45 minutes, the red thing is still in but the disc and case are not damaged, my friend told me what was wrong but I could not be ****ed taking it back.

A drill, a hammer, some bourbon and cursing will do the trick... Unless you dont want to shatter the case and scratch the dvd then end up pirating it off the internet, in which case DONT do what i did.
Just got my first one of these bastards. Can't get it off. Looks like I have to head back.
