Well done Cats fans, you haven't had a flag to cheer about in a while so it must be pleasing to see your young guns guide you to a VFL flag. Great list management to see all of them get a game too ;)
A bit of Menschy magic at the end too was fantastic!
PS Nice of them to play the Port Melb song after the game :D

Geelong are my sorta, soft spot team after the Lions, very pleased to see them win and all the fans at the game!
Bartel and Kelly are quite good players! Very impressed with them. The Geelong fans seem to have a few good yrs ahead with this sorta talent in their sides.

Thanks, Locks... much appreciated. Pure class on your part. :)
Great game, we were on the edge of our seats the entire game. And we share your sentiments 100%...
This will have a bearing on our team's success for years to come, certainly.
PS: Good luck to your Magpies next Saturday, too. :)
Cheers,
William

I was barracking for Port, due to my soft spot for former Hawk, and player in last years Premiership, Chris Obst, but nevertheless, Geelong's youth impressed again.

Geelong VFL team is based purely on AFL listed players therefore I dont think this thread is out of place on this board.

Those in charge, thought otherwise.:)

They also rang the siren about 30 seconds too early, but the person in charge quickly took their finger off the button .

A big thanks to Fox Footy Channel showing the GF live around the nation.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching my catters win a GF for a change, even if I did only see the first half as I had to skoot to go watch the 36ers demolish Victoria in a trial game.
Well done Catters!!
Sheesh the Geelong supporters at Optus today are overcompensating idiots.
For all you Geelong supporters who went over the top.(To the others congrats)
Its only the reserves
You had 13 more AFL listed players than Port or close to
The Grand Final is next week
After saying this the majority of players who played today will be playing in there future grand final teams, and this will be a great experience for them and may result in them not choking on a senior premiership flag.
BTW i was sitting behind Matthew McCartheys sister today, very nice day indeed :)

Hey, if you were a Geelong supporter, you'd go over the top to no matter what GF it was you won! lol
I thought it was great that so many Cats fans made it out to the GF, and it wasnt reserves either, it was the VFL, even the commentators made mention that the ressies for the VFL had already been played.
Something people forget to mention is that Geelong are the only stand alone AFL club who hasnt made a joint bid with an old VFA side in the VFL that are doing ok, a great job by the Cats!

So who cares? It that against the rules?
Could be worse, they could have a "ball biter" for a captain.

The VFL is the reserves of the AFL (the Vic teams anyways), and the VFL reserves is the reserves of the VFL.Originally posted by RoosterWedgie

All im saying is Geelong should of won by 10 goals.

You'll find that teams with lots of AFL playes struggle because of not being able to put a consistent team on the ballpark.
Id like to see the average age of the Geelong team, Im sure it was pretty low even if Mensch and White did drag it up.
Great teams quite often beat teams of champions.
The VFL isnt the reserves comp, just because some of the AFL teams have their 2nd sides in the VFL doesnt make it the reserves.
If a Nth Ballarat boy plays well in the VFL, does he get promoted to the AFL?
no as he's playing league level and the highest level for his club.

As would the supporter of any other team if they won the same honor. So I think that justifies our chest-beating on these threads. :D

Excellent point, Rooster. Certainly fuels to dispell the myth that Geelong is a disadvantaged side in the AFL, if they can generate a reserve side with its own resources. And win, for that matter...

With a bit more accurate goal-kicking, perhaps. It's debateable. They could have been more on-target than they were in the third term, certainly, to make matters more decisive.
But in a Grand Final, or in any finals game, it doesn't matter whether you win by one point or 100. A win is a win is a win... and Geelong are champions. :)
Cheers,
William

I thought it was great how the crowd ran on to the ground after the match, despite being told to stay off the ground about 50 times during the day.
If you noticed anyone in a Collingwood cap, sky blue jumper, navy blue tracksuit pants, and black runners, it was me.

Hey Blueworms,
You wouldn't happen to be Phil Cleary IRL would you? ;)
Terrific to see the Cats win and I am so pleased for Menschy and Bluey. Great servants of the Geelong Football Club and if they do both retire, what a way to go out.
This must augur well for the future at senior level with so many young players a part of it. Maybe a senior flag within the 5 year plan as the club suggested?

I watched the match, and even though we lost, I was extremely pleased with the performance considering they had a lot more listed AFL players, than were the Swans players playing for Port.
I was extremely impressed with some of the Swans youngsters!!!
Amon Buchannon did so many good things and is really progressing, Adam Schneider did things at times and was great, didnt step a foot wrong.
Gerrard Bennett was sensational, maybe he will stay on our list after all.
Ryan O'Keefe will be a star, he was fantastic.
Scotty Stevens did excellently.
Chris Obst did quite well aswell, as did Leigh Brockman.
Great stuff :)

Now that Eade's gone, those young players might get a chance.Buchannon is a very good player.

Tell me about it :D
We still had quite a few out, unfortunately they were victim to the Swans SHOCKING injury list (again, 3rd year straight I think).
Hunt, Powell and Lewis-Roberts Thompson will all come through aswell.
2-3 Years and Sydney will be right up there again :D (depending on this years draft).

Hay Rooster Weggie. Geelong is not the only AFL team to have stone alone club in the VFL without joining with the old VFA clubs My Team North Melbourne has a stone alone tema in the VFL under the name Murray Kangaroos. All out top up players come from the Murray Reagion, where I would assume Geelong top up players come from the Geelong area. Murray Kangaroos made the finals the last 2 years and were 1 kick away of playing in 2001 VFL Grand Final. Other teams AFL Teams that have teams in the VFL as there reserves are Carlton, Essendon. So that makes 4 teams. Maybe this will be 2 nest year with rumor has it Essendon having talks with Northern Bullants and Calton having talks with Bendigo

Too damn right. This is VFL being talked about here, not AFL.
Watched the tape of the game and it was pretty damn good footy. Excellent crowd, it would have been a great atmosphere at Carlton.
If I ever get to go to Victoria during the next season, I'll probably sample some of the local comp.
