In Matthew Hardy’s excellent book, “Saturday Afternoon Fever”, he claimed to have discovered his passion for footy, when he found Trevor Barker’s card in his first packet of Scanlen’s cards in 1978. Which Fitzroy player was featured in that same packet of cards?

fantastic book by the way. a great reference to Ronnie Alexander and Chris Hansen sharing a beer in Ron's suburban backyard...
As to the answer - sheesh I can't remember really but it may well have been Harvey Merrigan or Chris Hansen.

It wasn't Merrigan or Hansen.
I agree that it is a great book. Lots of Fitzroy references, including Hardy's teacher doing Mickey Conlan-style runs down the ground during "yobbo" games at school.
Hardy also wrote some very good songs for the Coodabeen Champions, including The Cunningham Brothers & Dean Jones Can Bat At No. 3.
