I saw Bob do a solo show at the Tiv in Adelaide in the early 90's.
He was awesome even though he had a sore throat/cold or something. He is playing in Adelaide on the 13th. of December.

Husker Du- definately the greatest non Australian band of the 80's.

Hello Doug,

Are you the Doug Thomas of Greasy Pop records fame? If so, you're responsible for some my favourite records of the 80s (Exploding White Mice, the Philisteins, Twenty Second Sect, the Spikes).

Cheers,

RB

Gidday to you RB,
DT is not my real name. But yeah, the Greasy Pop label had some unreal bands signed to it. I saw the Spikes just once, talk about raw energy and well, the EWM's, loved em. Lets not forget Iron Sheiks, Contrapunctus, July 14th, Mad Turks and the Coneheads just to name a few. I believe Adelaide in the 80's had a wicked live music scene.
Did you ever get along to venues such as the Tiv, Old Queens Arms and Le Pox?

Well I'm a Melbourne boy so I saw these bands mostly in Melbourne. I love the Iron Sheiks (being a wrestling fan the name captured me straight away): the fact their album 'Do you sell beer here?' was a line from the great Aussie biker film Stone just sealed the deal for me.

I've played a couple of times in Adelaide in the mid 90s with my old band Red Shift supporting bands like the Blood-Sucking Freaks and Grudge but didn't see any of the old great bands.

I am pretty good friends with the guys from the Philisteins, who later mutated into the Freeloaders. I played many gigs supporting them. Liz Dealy is in Melbourne now in a band called Tinkerbell featuring Chris from the Lizard Train. My sister's boyfriend is drumming in the band-I used to play with him in a band called the Naked Eye so there is some connection (albeit a tenuous one) with the Adelaide scene.
