Heard as report on BBC breakfast radio, think Thorpe has pulled out of oz trip, and probably wont play for England again.

He's a bloody idiot.

For one he can't make his mind up & secondly all this crap about being away from his kids for a couple of months, it's not going to kill them, you've only got one go as an international sportsman & his kids would probably be better served by him going out & scoring a load of runs against the Aussies than fannying around like some old mother hen.

The thing that really concerns me is that Ramps is in the frame for his place!:( but then again he's got to be a better bet than Robert Key.

We'll miss that left hander in the middle order when Warnie's bowling.

Sorry to here that Dave. They needed him because there batting line up is pretty fickle. I don't give the middle order might hope.

Hick :D :D

the guy has had that many chances for England it's not funny. He's resigned to finishing his career in county cricket.

I believe(& pray) that he is currently suffering from a broken thumb.

Personally I would have been tempted to shove that young bloke from Warwickshire in, James Troughton (related to one of the early doctor who's), such is the need for a bit of left handidness in the middle order but apparently he has a stress fracture & so it's bound to be a shoot out between Ramps/Key & perhaps even worse Nick Knight.

Talking of Hick who can forget Athers declaring at the SCG with Hick 96 not out:D

No, although Irani is a world class 1 day cricketer he just lacks the penetration required for Test cricket.:D

oh it is Dipper again - the one who was saying that Surrey buy there players in to win championships, yet Irani is from Lancashire...

amazingly I agree with you about Troughton.

Ah but you miss the point there is a world of difference between 'buying' players with proven track records from counties that usually want to kep them (Giddins,Ormond,Ramprakash) than picking up nobodies who struggle to get a game & turning them into international cricketers (Childs,Such,Irani,Grayson).

Anyway I'm not that anti the brown hatters really, they do more for the England side than just about anybody else, they produce good quality usually tough (Tudor an exception) cricketers many of whom play for England, Rikki Clarke being the latest example & they seem one of the few counties who want England to do well rather than begrudging the loss of their top players. Also they steer clear of getting in a load of Aussie/South African rejects who qualify for EU passports so all in all good on them.

Mind you they better watch out for a rampant Essex next year especially our demon attack that consists of such world beaters as Dakin,Grant,Cowan,Middlebrook & Napier-whew I bet that lots given you something to think about.;)

RE:Troughton- he looks pretty classy doesn't he?Plus another left hander is a must for the middle order to deal with Warne.
