GRAEME Lynch watched proudly from the MCG stands last year as his son Alastair held the AFL premiership cup aloft, but this year he will be confined to his bed in Hobart's Calvary Hospital.

The West Coast publican and former top Coastal footballer was admitted to hospital with chest pains and will undergo triple bypass surgery just days after his son and his Brisbane Lions team-mates attempt to win back-to-back premierships.

The Lions will tackle Collingwood on Saturday in front of 96,000 screaming fans. Alastair said yesterday his thoughts would be with his father at the weekend, but he was maintaining his usual sense of humour.

``Dad's in hospital in Hobart and he has to have the triple bypass next Monday,'' Alastair said from Brisbane yesterday. ``He likes his footy though - I just hope they have a good doctor there with him on Saturday.''
