Assistant coach?
That's an awfully big move to make just to be an assistant coach at an SANFL club. I would expect that sort of move if he was going to coach, but assistant?
Will he be playing?

From the PAMFC press release:
"The Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club are pleased to announce the appointment of former Richmond Captain Matthew Knights) as full time Football Operations Manager and assistant coach to Stephen Williams.
Knights yesterday signed a two-year contract to be Port’s Football Operations Manager and assistant coach. The major coup is the first significant step in the revival campaign the Magpies are planning to turn around the club’s on-field fortunes in 2003. It is part of a renewed focus on football the Club promised as a result of the highly successful ‘True Believers’ campaign earlier in the year.
Matthew has played 279 AFL games with Richmond, is a former captain and a dual best & fairest winner. He brings to the club a wealth of experience and a real passion for the game.
Matthew will take up his appointment in the middle of October and his wife Carolyn and two young children will join him soon after."

I think if I was Stephen Williams I'd grow eyes in the back of my head. Any takers on how long before Knights is transplanted to the PAPs?

I wonder how the poor unintelligent fans that actually paid that $2 pw would be feeling now with the Magpies employing yet another Full Time Employee.
Gee, that club must be in real financial strife.
Im sure Matty Knights would come cheap for a full time job especially considering he still feels he has another year of AFL footy in him and is giving up playing to take up this role.

Is he a playing assistant?
If not, wow. Talk about unexpected.

No, he said he's definately hung up the boots, stepping stone to an AFL career in coaching.

Proud club???!!! AHHAHAHAHAH
Didn't we already establish that the PAMFC are no relation to the PAFC , they merely wear the jumper and have the logo of the old PAFC and were formed in 1997.
This 'proud club' that has become a joke 5 years after its formation.

Hmmm. This 'joke' club that has in its 5 year history won as many premierships as Sturt has won in its last 30 years?
