There has also been a cleanout at the Kangaroos, with 12 of their 2000 list of 41 gone.
The most significant departure is Peter Bell, but the Roos have retained all other players of high importance.
They have traded with an eye to the future, picking up five selections in the first 30 of the national draft.
This contrasts to other years where the Roos have been content to top-up with recycled players. The switch to youth is overdue.
DEPARTURES: Peter Bell(T), Evan Hewitt(T), Matthew Capuano(T), Kent Kingsley(T), Martin Pike(D), Adam Hay(D), Brett Chandler(D), Brady Anderson(D), Brad Stephens (D), Craig Sholl(R), Robert Scott(R), Gary Dhurrkay(R).
ARRIVALS: Rick Olarenshaw(Collingwood), Jess Sinclair(Fremantle), Joe McLaren(St Kilda).
DRAFT SELECTIONS: 6, 8, 14, 23, 30, 42, 60, 76, 92
so 12 player outs... 3 players in... one off the veterans list (will blakey move to the vet's list remember Carey is eligible 2002)... 2 less on the list... we only have 6 picks... by my calculations (if blakey does not go to the vet's list)... is that enough??? would picks 60.. 76.. and 92 give you that much anyway??? just a couple of questions....

Don't forget some of today's best players were picked up with draft picks on the wrong side of number 30.
The Roos should do well at the draft this year- you guys have heaps of picks, spread nicely throughout the draft. I predict at least two of those will go on to be solid contributors, 100-150 gamers.
Its a gamble but the Roos seem to have all the angles covered.

This may sound predictable coming from a geelong supporter, but the recruitment of Leigh Colbert could have been the biggest mistake the Roos have made in the past 10 years (apart from Clearing Tim Mcgrath and Brad Sholl of course) - Geelong managed to pick up David Spriggs with one of the picks that Norff gave us (i think via Adelaide for Scott Welsh) and he's going to be a star, however the Peter Bell Deal might turn out okay for the Roos, which i hope as they are one of my favorite 'neutral' clubs in which means i hope they win the flag ahead of other clubs such as Essendon, Richmond, Adelaide, WCE etc. Pike had to go, too much of an disruptive influence, however i think another high profile player should have moved on to. Yes I'm talking about Winston Abraham, Norff Should have swaped him to Freo for Bandy (whether that trade actually would have happened is another thing altogther) i think Abraham is a very volatile and tempramental person (nothing to do with his nationality, it's simply the fact that he doesn't seem to fit in with the discipline standards set by pagan which is a reason perhaps why he wanted to go back to WA) what are your thoughts Rooboy ?

Colbert will be a lot better this year and I think the club would have been stupid not to pursue a quality player like Colbert when he became available...

Hopefully you are right but I had a lot of time for Bell... sadly no longer... this is not a whinge just a fact...

I agree Pike sadly had to go... but I am glad Winnie stayed... he does seem soft sometimes... but we have a lot of non ssofties and he has flair... and that quality is hard to find in footballers today... I hope that answers all your questions...
In future please start your own topic don't change mine... what do people think of my original question... have we slashed enough...

Back Again!
I think a lot of supporters of other clubs are very envious (down right jealous) of the position you are in. We were in a similar situation as you are now , last year (need for injection of a bit of youth), although yours was "forcibly" brought about with the need to trade for Bell.
Wallace aggressively followed a youth policy, and stuck to it no matter what(with a couple of trading mistakes mind you- but hey- shit happens).
The only difference with North is that as opposed to our 2/3 mid-tier draft picks that we gained along with Eagleton for 3 "best 22" players, you have effectively only lost 1 (yes i know- he's better than all three put together http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/wink.gif- but it could be a blessing in disguise) and still managed to get an unbeleivable amouunt of QUALITY draft picks.
Couple this with a wildcard in Jess Sinclair, and 5 TOP 30 draft picks(HUGE effort BTW), and there's a whole new leadership core in 2004- (hey that rhymes http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/biggrin.gif). Add blokes like McLaren, and you have a huge air of enthusiasm and youthful feel to the team. The important thing for you guys is to stay thereabouts for the next year or two- which shouldn't be hard at all with your player stocks- and ride the successful wave from this policy in a few years to come. Pretty obvious i know, but what i'm saying is that this kind of opportunity to implement a youth policy as effectively as you have this year comes around once in a blue moon- if ever.
Did i make ANY sense at all? I'm tired!

Oh shit- sorry rooboy..... just saw your post..... have you slashed enough?........ ummm.... yes..... if anyhting..... tooo much. But as BSA said, who knows what you could get with pick 92.
Amazes me that the doggies are going in with 5 picks all up and you have that in the first 30. No amazes was the wrong word.... shits me..... there thats better.
Now- i'm off to bed!
I think Pagan and co did a pretty good job with the players they delisted, But if he fails to get quality replacements, it'll be for nothing.

at present we don't get to use picks 76 or 92 as we only have 7 picks... obviously someone is being put on the vets list... I have not heard who yet...
