View Full Version : Bomber's Financial Position
Did anyone see the article in yesterday's Hun, regarding clubs financial positions? Essendon, as to be expected dominated, making the largest profit ($1 mill +) out all clubs, and having the largest membership from the Vic clubs by a country mile (36K to Collingwoods 31K and Hawks 33K).
We are also the only club to have made a $1 mill+ profit for 2 years running. And note that McMahon and Jackson think that we lost $400k on gate receipts this year, due to the shoddy allocation of night games we got.
Assuming that this article is accurate (it is from the Hun:rolleyes:!), it is very impressive.
All I can say is I'm glad to be a bomber, and we are still the No.1 Club in the Land!!:D

It's all good and well for the last two years, but I wouldn't be expecting something as dramatic this year.
This year, our membership was down, wasn't it? Also not making the grand final will cut back on a lot of profit from ticket sales, merchandise, etc. Game attendances were down considerably as well. I would still think we made a profit, but I could be wrong. Can't really say yet, as the year is not over.
Having said that, the last two years have been fantastic, and it does make you proud to see the off-field area doing as well as on the field!
Collingwood supporters claim that their club is No.1 ... but you just have to look at the facts. Sustained success is what counts ... that is what keeps the $$$ rolling in ...

Take it from a North supporter, if that were true I would feel a lot more secure about my club right at the moment...

Forgot to mention ... it pays to have a large supporter base to draw from.
I admire the North Melbourne Football Club though! :)

Here's my quick assumption of our financial situation. We're extremely ****ing rich.
Can't wait for the next line of shït at the BomberShop this christmas. Like the 'Official Bomber Door Stop' selling at $15.95. Which I will most likely purchase and express post to Daniel McAlister with a note attached "Don't let the door hit your arse on the way out."

The Bombers are definetely the n.o. 1 Victorian AFL club at the moment. This has been built on good off field management and stellar on field performances over the last 4 years.
I think, relatively modest on field performance as compared to previous years was a contributing factor in Essendon's lower than budgeted crowd figures.
The fact is that AFL's socialist policies such as salary cap, and draft system are designed to stop teams dominating for more than 3 - 4 years. So 2003 will be an interesting year; The season should answer the question, has the slide begun or was 2002 just a small bump ? We await anxiously.
As for the Kangas and Doggies, their future is limited to the expiry of the current television deal. As much as I would like to see them flourish, the support is just not there from member numbers and thus sponsors.
It hurts, when you considere that these 2 well managed clubs will go under due lack of members, and St Kilda which has plenty of potential members will probably sink due to bad management.

I agree.
