Could anyone point me in the direction of good websites for that genre of music? Or at the very least a place where I can view the top20 songs in each category.

Most of my bookmarked websites seem to have either stopped updating these top20 lists or removed them altogether.

In The Mix (http://www.inthemix.com.au) - is a very good website. Gives out weekly email updates about music reviews, raves/parties/club nights in your area etc etc

other than that i dont know of many sites that regularly update top 20s

No no, any website would be fine. Thanks for those Macca, much appreciated.

I gotta update my music collection. My current collection is getting a bit outdated.

I don't usually bother with the stuff on the charts, I don't like buying what other people tell me to listen to...I am always in waiting for that perfect track to come around...:(

Same. I dont listen to top 40 radio stuff. I buy a lot of cds not knowing anything about the bands or any songs on the cds.

Seeing that Logical song by Scooter at number 2 this week really made me laugh. I remember listening to tracks/artists with very similar beats and sound effects back in 1997!

Haha, scooter is a mad c.nt wannabe. I really dislike him.

Now Darude, that guy has music. Too bad he overused that Sandstorm build up thing though. Warp Brothers are sweat too. I heard PPK on mp3.com about 2 yrs ago, i couldn't believe it when it hit the charts this year, haha :p
Milk Inc are good for the softer stuff, I like them.

Unfortunately its hard to come by good Techno/Trance/Dance. Too many artists (term used lightly) lack imagination.

Nah. Its easy to come across good electronic music. There is a lot of good stuff out there, you just gotta commit the time to find it.

It depends what style you like tho.

I like a few different styles.

If you like Hard House/NRG then check out Nick Sentience and BK - those two are gods of that genre.

If you like youre softer more personal Progressive House stuff with a constant 4/4 beat then checkout anything from John Digweed, Sasha, Deep Dish, Timo Mass...anything on the Bedrock label or all the Global Underground stuff.

If you like crazy drum n bass then check out Roni Size, Dillinja, Goldie, Andy C, DJ Hype, Exile, Ed Rush & Optical. Also check out the Reprazent crew which is part of Roni Size - DJ Suv, DJ Die, DJ Krust.

If you like youre jungle music more then check out LTJ Bukem. The guy is like the king of jungle music. Big Bud is also good.

If you like youre more euphoric trance like youre Darude style stuff then check out DJ Wag, Paul Van Dyk, PeeWee Ferris, Chris Lawrence, Ferry Corsten, DJ Tiesto, Mauro Piccoto, Ian Van Dahl.

Generally....if you want to listen to some good new dance music, check out anything on the Gatecrasher label (their cds, GateCrasher Disco-Tech, GateCrasher Experience [which is awesome], GateCrasher Digital_ , and Gatecrasher Digital Trance) or anything on the Deca Dance label. They are both compilation type labels. Deca Dance is especially good. Buy a few of their cds (ill recommend 'Higher State of Trance', 'Bass In Yer Face' [if youre a DnB fan], 'Trance Anthems 2'.

21st Century is also an awesome label with many good compilations for every genre of dance music out there. Its my favourite label.
Ministry Of Sound has some good stuff but generally youre more commercial stuff. Check out other DJs on labels like Nukleuz too.

Check out their websites:

GateCrasher (http://www.gatecrasher.com)

GateCrasher Australia (http://www.gatecrashermusic.com.au)

Ministry Of Sound (http://www.ministryofsound.com.au)

21st Century (http://www.react-music.co.uk)

Ya, thanks for those. I'll check these guys out, make a list, and see if I can download em at Uni (the beauty of zip drives). Wish I could buy the original CD's, but I don't quite make enough to afford those $50 albums.

Prices vary, but generally you can't get good dance/trance albums for under $50. Some good ones go as high as $69.95. So yeah, unless you want to listen to Britney Spears or the Backstreet boys, you gotta fork out the dosh.

Yeah. I dunno what its like in Melbourne but i rarely shop at the designated dance music places in Adelaide like Central Station. Their cds are over inflated and unless im specifically looking for a cd i wont go there. If you go to a place like Sanity here then youll regularly see the same cds for sometimes up to $20 cheaper. Just about the only thing Sanity is good for.

Central Station: pay top dollar for your music and get served by some snapperhead who thinks they're too cool for school.

Nah it isn't live, and he isn't playing much of his own stuff at all in his sets, we'll be lucky to hear 'Wavy Gravy' and 'Fundamental' Im guessing.

Hybrid are awesome - can't wait to catch them live!

Thats a pity!! :( Altho it doesnt bother me that much as everything he plays is simply awesome.

The middle of the cd is simply mind blowing. When he starts to put in some breakbeats on 'immortal' it starts to get awesome. Then 'Fundamental' is simply one kickarse track. The beat in that is amazing! When it cranks in again at 2:30 after the little build up....i can imagine that live and i can picture me going nuts to that.
When 'Boiler Room' finally kicks in its a cranker as well. 'Golden Arm' goes alright. 'Wavy Gravy' aint bad.

Yep agree with ya there - Cloud Cuckoo also is a really nice track at the start but Immortal/Fundamental/Boileroom is where the action really begins. Love them breaks.
