I would like to know what the different supporters think would be the best team their club could field from their list next season.
I will post what I think may be the best for all clubs.
The Roos
Archer Martyn Colbert
Pickett McCartney Clayton
Simpson Stevens Grant
Abraham Carey King
Rocca McLaren Motlop
McKernan Harvey Sinclair
Interchange
Burton Makepeace Lange Blakey
I haven't seen enough of Lindsay Smith to rate him properly but he could edge Burton out in 2002. I have put John Blakey on the interchange in a year in whcih the Roos will hope some of the kids step up.
Most likely line-up:
B : Archer, Martyn, Pickett
HB : King, McCartney, Blakey
C : Sinclair, Stevens, McLaren
HF : Abraham, Carey, McKernan
F : Colbert, Rocca, Grant
R : Burton, Simpson, Harvey
IC : Lange, S.Motlop, Clayton, Makepeace
Preferred line-up:
B : Archer, Martyn, Lange
HB : Pickett, McCartney, Blakey
C : King, Simpson, Abraham
HF : Sinclair, Carey, McLaren
F : McKernan, Rocca, Grant
R : Burton, Stevens, Harvey
IC : Spaull, Colbert, Olarenshaw, Watt

May be a bit top heavy in the starting 18 hence a couple of runners on the bench.
Colbert in the middle to use to his vision and skills.
Byron up the ground with instructions to run his guts out and rotate with Motlop off the bench.
Occasional switch of McCartney, Lange and Archer.
On no occasion should Grant go anywher near the defensive end of the ground.
McKernan/Rocca to ruck when the ball is in the forward line.
Burton to stay 1 kick behind play.
EVERYONE to stay out of Duck's way!!!
Cheers

What, and miss out on the sheer hilarity and joy of watching Grant trying to tag someone like Cameron Bruce? http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/wink.gif
SB
(shuddering at that particular memory)
To select a side from a list of 38 players,10 of which are new to the club is hard enough.
However with 4 days before the real training starts, and 85 days to the first game of the season,it is almost impossible.
Having said that ,this is the team I believe will play the first match.
Pickett Martyn McCartney
Colbert Watt Archer
Sinclair Harris King
Abraham Carey Jones
Harvey Rocca D.Smith
McKernan Blakey
Stevens
Bench : Lange Simpson Grant D.Motlop
Emergencies: McLaren Rawlings S.Motlop

Interesting to recall that our "debutants" in Round 1 2000 were Burton,Calthorpe and R.Pagan. No wonder we seemed old and tired for most of the year! I won't name a team (as Denis says "you pick a team in their positions and then start making changes after 5 minutes."),so I'll just say all the obvious players plus Rocca,Sinclair,McLaren and two of D.Smith,Harris,D.Motlop and Jones. I'd love the likes of Watt,L.Smith,Lasscock and Woodley to show out in the Ansett Cup and be genuine challengers for long term senior selection.

GF team for 2001
B: Pickett Martyn Archer
HB: King McCartney Blakey
C: Colbert Stevens Sinclair
HF: Abraham Carey Grant
F: S Motlop Rocca McKernan
Foll: Burton Simpson Harvey
IC: D Smith D Motlop McClaren Lange
Next in line: Clayton and Watt. Watt could make a huge difference if he can step up.
We need Kingy in the backline for the additional run. In 96 he, Laidley and Schwass gave terrific run in finals series; and again in 99 GF King gave superb run off HB. This will give the new kids an opprotunity in the midfield which is what they were drafted for. Basically we lacked run off HB last year.
I think Ainley is real roughie for senior selection this year, has really good skills.
Will be interesting to see Makepeace and Cochranes development. Crunch year for Cochrane.
Cheers and go ROOS
PS I'm trying to sign a few yanks up for the international membership. I think I have got a couple!!
I'm predicting D. Harris to be the find of the new boys. Good size, quick over first 20m and very good hand skills. Ideally suited to take up HB flank, hopefully releasing Picket to midfield role.

That boy is heading straight to the middle and straight to the Norwich rising star award.
Just my understated opinion.
