Fitzroy Jumpers and the Fitzroy Reds.

What do people think of the suggestion/idea that the Fitzroy Reds could possibly wear, every so often, one of the different historical stripes that Fitzroy has had in its history? Or perhaps, the Reserves and Club XVIII's could get around in respectively different Fitzroy jumpers.

I reckon it would be great to see some of our older jumpers used on occasions, or perhaps by one of our sides on a regular basis.

Obviously there would be cost considerations, and this may prove prohibitive, and there may be an issue with all the older Fitzroy jumpers being maroon instead of red (not necessarily a large difference, mind you), however, what do people think of the idea?

I wouldn't want to add unnecessary costs, but I'd get a real kick out of seeing some of the older Roys jumpers in games.

it would be a nice touch for the game around the time of the foundation dinner or something like that....

I would love the reds to go around in the older style jumpers.

Definitely a great idea, everyone at the Reds would love to do this and the VAFA ould be more than happy to allow it provided the jumper didn't clash with the opposing clubs jumper, cost considerations would provide the main barrier at this stage. However you never know, a sponsor might be encouraged to foot the bill for such a venture.

Would be probably best to leave for special occasions (eg Foundation of Fitzroy, when we play University Blacks in 2004 in D1 section - old VFL rivals!!!) rather than having differrent jumpers for different teams (more difficult to administrate and may create a bit of a "them" & "us" culture between the respective teams of the Reds).

I'm currently floating the idea of getting a North Yarra Community Day up and running which will just happen to fall on the first home game of the Reds next season. Maybe we could wear the old jumpers at this game then get some Fitzroy legends to sign them then auction them off for charity & the club (they might need a wash!!!).

The idea raised also makes me think that there could be an opportunity for doing a similar thing with the old Unversity Reds (1954-1998) jumper, as we've just started to get an active Old Redders Association up and running this year.

All this aside, we will be concentrating most of our efforts & expenditure on the new U19s team, as getting this right is critical for the long term success & future of the Club.

In short, if someone would like to pursue getting a sponsor for this type of activity (our committee is a little stretched with what's on our plate at the moment!!!), then the Reds would be more than happy to oblige.

What were Uni Reds' previous guernsey design?

For the match next season we should see if Brisbane are interested in helping with sponsorship or if the Reds (or FFC) could have a function to help raise the extra money. Unfortunately I understand that money is a constraint for many amueter clubs.

I'm pretty sure the Reds wore the same jumper as University (VFL), Uni Blacks and Uni Blues, that is a black jumper with blue "vee".
