I predicted this in a thread about the Elimination Final!!!
As long as Doug Thomas runs the show at Westies, no coach will ever be safe. My favourite is how Neil Kerley, as captain-coach, wins a flag and a runner up being best and fairest both years then gets the sack for Doug to take over! Kevin Morris takes them to a grand final and gets the bullet.

Wow, that's a shock.
I think Westies over-achieved, personally.
I think Borchard did a good job to get the side into the finals. They were playing very well mid-way through the season... probably got a major shove into the 5 due to the crap quality of the bottom 4, but I certainly don't think it warranted Ian Borchard's sacking.

Not suprised at all.Doug Thomas should be hung drawn and quartered by all true fans of the red and black.
So is Shaun Rehn coming to coach????

West will never go forward while he is alive. A certain sports reporter said to me something similar about the SFC "although he bought you success, he's now holding you back and Sturt will never move forward until Jack Oatey is dead".
They should have gone with phil carmen
in the first place....
matters more who you put on the field.

Shaun now takes his rightful place as a legend of the AFC
All bitternes should be put aside.
Choked on my Cholesterol City Breakfast This Morning when I saw that Ian Borchard had been sacked!!!
I personally think he did a good job taking them to 5th after a Zip and Six start to the season!!!!!!
Take into account the horrendous year the Bloods have had off the field!!!!! No more needs to be said about that......
I believe West Adelaides problems have always laid at Board Level!!!!!!
Doug Thomas.......... Realise that ultimately the blame lies with your players not your coach!!!!!!!!!
While he is at the helm......... West will continue to deliver mediocre performances!!!!!!!!!!
Let go Doug................. Your a Bigger hinderance than Alan McCallister was to Collingwood!!!!!!!!

Does that mean he's dropped the lawsuit?
It was an insult that he was invited to contest the Slowdown in a Crows guernsey - he gave up that right when he left the club... then sued the club. He should have been treated with the contempt he deserves and appropriately adorned in black, white and teal. :)
Whats that supposed to mean SouthBoy!!!!!!
Rehnnie had nothing to do with the "Black White and Teal"
Do you understand that your only making Port Followers Giggle with delight every time people like you (Who obviously dont support the Power) bring them up into a forum that has nothing to do with Them!!!!!!!

an observation:-
Glenelg sack their coach and the cry goes out "It's the board's fault"
Westies sack their coach and it's Doug Thomas's fault.
what a contrast!

And after he walked out on the club that supported him through 3 knee reconstructions... then tried to sue them... he should have nothing to do with the "blue, red and gold" either.
I hated the prick when he was a Crow, I hated him when he left the Crows, and I still hate him now.

The Club's insurance will cover the lawsuit
It was his career and livelihood - what do you expect.
Hating Shaun Rehn must mean you didn't celebrate either Premeirship he was a huge part in helping us win.

I wonder why the did that???????//
Back to back after two knee recons may give you a clue.
He had to go through them - not the Club.
He is a champion and deserves fans respect.

I don't blame the Crows for sticking with him... I blame him for walking out on the club that was loyal to him. I guess it probably turned out for the best anyway... he didn't exactly light up the field at Hawthorn.
He may have been a great player, but he was ALWAYS an a*sehole to supporters after matches, including the kids that looked up to him as their heroes. He lost my respect the minute he refused to sign a 5 year old girl's autograph because he was "in a hurry". No apology... just a blunt "No. I'm in a hurry". She was in tears a couple of minutes later. Taking the time out to sign a kids autograph shouldn't be a chore when you're earning hundreds of thousands of dollars a season.
He was an arrogant, self indulgent prick. Yeah, he was a great player and helped the club win flags, but as a person, he was/is an a*sehole, and no, I don't respect him.

Judging a person on one incident is not really fair.
he MAY have signed 00000's of autographs before that
Anyway, you are entitled to your opinion.

Geezus, anyone want to get the facts here?
The management board decided to sack Borchard, the main reason being is they want a full time coach like North, Centrals and Glenelg are advertising for and Borchards involvement in the Fire Brigade prevented this from giving him a chance.

Don't know how many others were listening to that afternoon sports show on the radio last night but I thought Uncle Dougie implied that the management committee were after a full time coach. They asked Borch if he could do it. His reply was 'Probably Not', due to the super he was now getting as a firey after 20 years service, but he would talk to his accountant and go over the figures and get back to them.
The management committee sacked him before he had replied
bizzare - only at West Adelaide

This sort of thing would never happen at Glenelg.
The Bays' board would have just sacked him, no questions asked! :D

I also understand that there was some sort of players dispute in the hours leading up to their dismal finals performance, can anyone shed light on that?

Yeah. Basically on the day of the game their team lineup was not announced until just before the game. So you had 23 blokes not knowing if they were playing right up until being in the rooms at footy park, when the 21 was announced.

okay, but isn't that a coach's prerogative? It's a finals games, not every decision is easy but can be crucial. I know that the players would have been annoyed but the ones that are sulking maybe dont have the team at their best interests, or am I wrong.
Remember last Saturday Malthouse said he would be using up every minute available before handing his team sheet in, so there would have been several players waiting on that.

I agree. Nothing annoys me more than seeing players demanding a coach go. It is pathetic and disrespectful.
