You really think it was a nessecary to change the clubs name but it was probably done without the supporters view taken into account.
P.S; don't bag me saying that i should know how to spell nessecary ... And yeah tell me that i should do enuf homework to know how to spell it. I always stuff it up. but answer the question.
Yes I think it was a good thing to change our name from the Shinbonners to the Kangaroos as I don't really understand the significance of a shin bone. Unless perhaps you're a team full of butchers. Gawd, I'm starting to prattle on like Daphne.
Help me out here Daph, what was the question again?
Yes it was a good idea in 1888 to change the club's name from the Hotham Football Club to the North Melbourne Football Club. In the 1950's we became the North Melbourne Kangaroos. In 2001 we are more so known as the Kangaroos. No change just a different emphasis.

35eye I have read your posts you dont need any help from me you do well at prattling
I think we should go back to being called the SHINBONERS. It's such a cool sounding name.
Are We Not Men
We Are DEVO
So if we go back to the Shinboners, what will our mascot be? A dog bone or perhaps a butcher as 35eye mentioned?

I think homework_boy was referring to the change from North Melbourne to the Kangaroos. The club could have handled the change better, I know I still refer to the team as North, and the chants in the stands is always 'North Melbourne' not the Kangaroos, the players still sing the song as if it were North Melbourne. But the club did change it's name to attract new members up North, however, if I were an AFL footy freak up in Canberra, I don't think the club's name would make any difference whether I attended or not, I'd just want to go and see the game.
Our new mascot could be a Killer Sheep or a Mad Cow.

Or it could be a butcher chopping up magpies, swans, tigers, lions, bulldogs, crows, eagles, etc. etc.

Reading that I agree Roos. They didn't need to change.
All of you others on about the smallboners, we understand they may not have it all perfect down there, but for a mascot...
And would they be North Melbourne or have u forgotton they'd have to be called something like Sydney #2 Smallboners, or North Smallboners, like most of you would perfer.

Mate, I think we all knew that. I've just seen this joker's others posts around the boards & was never going to take it seriously.

I originally decided just to ignore the fool... I am so sick of those who have no loyalty to our club... questioning our motives... but then it keeps them off the streets...
IMHO they should all be worrying about their own clubs as there are many clubs in more precarious positions then our football club... or so my wife's.. cousin's.. butcher says... and he knows a few banktellers...

I realised after I posted, that he had been stirring up a few on the other clubs' boards.
Aussie-Roo,
I think Homework boy is craving some attention that his mummy and daddy aren't giving him, hence going to all opposition teams boards stirring up some contraversy.
I'm sure our supporters intelligence far out-weighs his and lenghty replies will just bore him til he leaves.

No Malibu, that's ok. Lengthy replies are fine!
