From the AFL website:

"Fitzroy seems likely to make a comeback to AFL competition next season, if only for one game.

AFL operations manager, Andrew Demetriou said the strip worn by the Lions when they entered the VFL would be revived for Brisbane’s game during a special commemorative round – the Federation Round – in 2003.

“In that particular round, we may be asking all our clubs to wear their original guernseys and strips as was done in the 1997 Centenary Year. If that was the case, you might see Brisbane wearing the Fitzroy jumper in that round,” Demetriou told 3AW

“In some ways, these strips were even better than what we see today from time to time.”"

I wonder which jumper they'll use (if any)?

Although all the jumpers are great, I believe they should use the last one (ie: the one with the red body, blue yoke, and yellow/gold monogram). It's the most recent and tangible link to the history of the occasion, and also the most memorable jumper for most of the Fitzroy fans.

The jumper was the one that was used in the 1996 Centenary Match against Carlton was the original maroon jumper with a gold yoke which also ran down the centre (as the jumpers were lace-up ones at the time). Surprisingly, it has a number of similarities to the last Bears jumper as well!

The actual article does say that they are looking at using those particular 'original' jumpers: "In that particular round, we may be asking all our clubs to wear their original guernseys and strips as was done in the Centenary Year."

Personally, I would prefer Fitzroy's last jumper to be used (as I mentioned earlier).

True Stocka the last guernsey would be of great historical value to all Fitzroy supporters, but the original guernsey as you pointed out was the lace up one but with slight difference, at Federation the jumper had a gold diagonal stripe added similar to Richmond but a vivid Gold.

Let's hope the Lions aren't playing Richmond, then.

One of only a few highlights of the 1996 season was Chris Johnsons mark against Carlton in this jumper.

I agree. The only time I saw that original style jumper was at the game against Carlton in 1996. My memories of Fitzroy are of them wearing the FFC. That's what I'd like to see. Can you imagine the response from Fitzroy fans if the Lions ran out in that jumper?

In my opinion the 1996 jumper would be preferable and mean more in the current context, although I would love to get my hands on one of the centenary jumpers. Looked good in that one outing in 1996.

It would be interesting to get some old Brisbane Bears perspectives on the concept.

Last year I ran a thread suggesting that Sydney and Brisbane should get together and each alternate year forgo one of their home games, given that each gets a Victorian based club home game (Melbourne in Brisbane and now the Bulldogs in Sydney) and play a "Fitzroy v South Melbourne" game at the MCG in the old colours as a marketing exercise. I still think this would work really well and help to foster support for both clubs in Victoria.

As a matter of interest Laurie Serafini stated last Saturday on 3LO that he was very hopeful that next year the Lions would actually play one game in Melbourne in the Fitzroy colours.

Anyone heard anything else on this?

I dont care if its maroon and a blue FFC (50s or 60s), Maroon and a gold V (Paddy McShane era), Red,Blue and Gold(Kappler era) or if it has a huge damn Gorilla on it. I would love to see our red jumper (Kappler era) but that might come off a bit disrespectful to the Brisbane supporters. I hope the AFL market the jumpers so we can buy them.

Considering that Brisbane only came into the competition in 1987 maybe they can wear the koala bear jumpers for the warm up.
