NTFL Round 1 12/10/02 13/10/02

The first round of the Darwin football competition
(NTFL) will be run over the weekend.

This year promises to be closer than recent
seasons

Wanderers managed a colts premiership last
year and would be looking to bring those players though
the seniors

StDisticts will be led from the front by on field coach
Jason Kookatoo and Nicholls medalist Bruce jarmyn
along with a host of great junior players (Mullins Tambling
Brennan)

Darwin will start their first season under former WCE Chris
Lewis

Stmarys had a number of good first year players last season
( Clarke Hill etc) and look like genuine contenders for the first
time in yonks.

Waratahs should be Waratahs

Nightcliff is the side with the most to play for after an ordinary
G.final
performance

Palmerston will be looking for their 3rd flag in a row.

Games this weekend

Waratahs V Stmarys (mid day at Gardens)

ezra bray returns to st marys
Saints to win.
35 degrees in Darwin
will be too hot for Tahs

Palmerston V Nightcliff (Afternoon at Gardens)

Lot of players missing from both teams.
Nightcliff appears to be missing half their side
from L/year (??)

In the positive for the Tigers Jason Burgoyne
seems to have returned. ( won the players sprint
at the carnival)

Nightcliff should still have enough jumpers
on the field to win this.

Stn Districts V Buffaloes (Sunday Freds Pass)
Game was scheduled for Football Park
but at the moment F/P resembles a Martian landscape.

S.districts did show some spark in the Carnival
Buffaloes should be too strong on the day

St Districts started well with tambling
and Jarmyn running things for the first
quater and a half.

Jason Kookatoo couldn't play due to some transfer
problem

Buffs gradually over ran them

Districts had a chance to win coming from
2 goals down in the last quarter

brennan missed on the last kick

buffs ran a lot of new players.

R.Roman's from their u16 g.final team apparently

Simon mukara and Ben Ahmat are down south
at some camp and won't be back for a couple of

Darwin Buffaloes V Waratahs (Midday Saturday Gardens Oval)
Waratahs Coach Micheal Athanasou switched
from Buffs in the off season.
Based on last weeks form buffaloes should win this easily.

Wanderers v Palmerston (Afternoon Gardens Oval)

James Sing Ex Darwin StMarys and SDistricts
makes his first appearance for Wanderers. A useful
player on his day Sing played under Mark Motop
during the Crocs Premiership years. Should be the spark
they need this year, they could take a few weeks to get
going though.
Palmerston beat the Eagles by 240 points in a coresponding game
last year.

Palmerston by about 8-9 goals

Nightcliff v Southern Districts (Sunday at Nightcliff)

for the first quarter. Buffaloes wern't putting up a contest
weren't chasing or tackling.

Buffs revived themselves for the last 3 quarters
but weren't able to eat into Waratahs 1 quarter lead.

Robbie Ah Mat was reported and sent off
during the 2nd quarter

Simon Munkara returned but ended up injuring
himself during the 3 stanza.

Waratahs had a T.I boy (No.28 or 29) in the
center who was unbeaten all day.

Has Corey Ward started playing for Palmerston as yet?
He comes from down my way and was rumoured to be playing for my club this season, but didn't.
A very good player, who, I think, was named at full back in the NT's team of the year last season.

No haven't seen him

- great fullback anyway.

Think he was with Glenelg at one stage.

Dogwatcher
23rd October 2002, 15:34
Yes he was at glenelg.
Played reserves but never looked like getting a shot in the league side.
Spent the winter at Donald in south west Victoria, they won a flag too.
He has played in eight premierships - three with Loxton North A grade, one each Donald and Palmerston and two with Wunkar colts - not sure where the eighth one was gained.
Has done well to come back from broken legs - in 1997/1998.
One was playing football and then after that was recoverd he broke the other in some sort of vehicle accident.
A very highly respected player here.

Description: Donald is a small rural community of approximately 1700 people. It is centrally situated to larger shopping centres: Horsham 100kms, Bendigo 150kms, Ballarat 200kms. It is a friendly, progressive town and many initiatives have been offered to expand industry and employment in the town. The economy still centres around the cropping and grazing industries. Donald has many lakes surrounding the township and is well known as 'Donald Duck Country'. During Duck Season, many tourists visit the town. Donald has a wide variety of Sporting and Cultural facilities, despite being isolated from specialised services. The Donald people are working very hard to maintain its support services - The Donald Hospital and Community groups eg. Lions Club, Apex Club and St Vincent de Paul, who play an active role in the community. The people of Donald are supportive, friendly and sociable. The parishioners of St. Mary's Parish are closely involved with both the Church and the School and are very generous in their support.

so, lifes not going to get easier for them.

The Saints with the Brays Willi Rioli, Jnr Rioli
Jnr JNR Rioli, and, 3 or 4 grizzled veterens looking

Darwin have uncovered some great young
