Did anyone ever see the King play his first AFL game. Does anybody remember where it was and what thier first impressions of him were?

I never saw his first game. First time I saw him, I think it was 89? at the then Princess Park against Richmond late in the season. A wet cold day with about 5000 people. He took on 3 players on the wing, charged through the pack, broke 3 tackles and took a couple of bounces around in circles and then drilled a 40m pass to I think was super McCarthey? A few Richmond supporters actually applauded him (last time!!)I can't remember who won but we were just watching him all afternoon. He had the arrogance, swagger and leadership written all over him. We have been privledged to see him play. Long reign the KING.

Princes Park is correct. Fitzroy was the opposition and the game was played in an absolute underwater quagmire. We only managed to snare 6 for the day, but Fitzroy could only squeeze home 1 sausage. Carey couldn't do much that day. Kennedy actually requested for the match to be postponed!!

I was there too.
That was the match Kennedy got them to roll in the mud before the game.

It was a shocker... Carey was crap... (you don't get to say that much, do you)... If my memory serves me right John McCarthy played well...

But the most Important thing is I was there and saw the boy before he was King...
