Lets give this a try it was 35eye,s suggestion.
Todays player is Corey McKernan.
What do you expect of him this year? and whatever.
I will go first, if you dont like this post I will delete it by tonight.
Actually I think that Corey is on his last chance, this has to be his big big year, I think he has one more year left in his contract after this one, and if he doesnt really fire up then he will probably find a new home. I have to say that I would hate this but maybe for his own sake he would seriously think about it. I am really hoping for a great year from him, and by all accounts from what we have heard about him in his pre-season that is going to happen.

Good topic Daphne.

I truly believe that if COrey leaves us, it will be initiated by him. He has opportunites in the past, and has remained loyal to the club. I can't see the purpose of the club putting him up for a trade, for the simple reason, we don't have anyone better or as experienced as him to play in the ruck - unless of course we get a Jeff White / Matty Allan or Steven King to the club, which is highly unlikely.

It would leave us with a 30 year old bean-pole to be our no.1 ruckman - whose only real benefit is the ruck tap-outs, and two unknowns in Lindsay Smith and Drew Petrie who are yet to play senior footy.

Towards the end of last year there was some speculation that Corey would be a chance of getting traded.
As good a player as he can be, it could be beneficial to both club and player.
At another club Corey might find greater enthusiasm or have to take on more responsibility, adding a new dimension to his game. A trade would demand at least a first round draft-pick, and ease up a pretty big chunk of the salary cap.
NOT trading Corey would retain our unique height up forward and our flexibility in the ruck.
Personally I hope Corey stays to finish his career with the Kangaroos, but if he does get traded for whatever reason I would wish him well, and be confident that both Corey and the Kangaroos would take a lot of positives out of a swap.

My views are obvious, so I will not restate them here, except to say that I have not the slightest idea why he is still with us. If any young player had performed like he has over the last 4 seasons, they would no longer be around.
I frankly do not understand what anybody sees in him as a player.

......it's very tempting to imagine what we might get by trading him....

I'm expecting nothing less than a stellar year from big Corza.

It will be great silence these few bad apples who are so very vocal about Corey & rant on about him apparently not having played a worthy game since 1996. Its like listening to a scratched record. Does it amuse anyone? Does it influence anyone else to take a look at the player & say, "Well, yeah, he really is cr@p?"
I hope not.

GO COREY!

CIK

Don't you remember the 99 GF. Corey was vital in getting North back into the game; same as the later part of the 2nd qtr in 96 GF.

Worth his weight in gold. Super big match player!!!

Cheers

GO ROOS

Oh allow me to answer this one. LOL!

2 good games do not a champion player make.

(Even if they are bl00dy important games, apparently!)

Hey that game against Geelong last year at Colonial.... was it just me or could everybody else not take their eyes off Corey. It was like a one man team that night. "No Corey, No North" is what I'm saying about that game.

Then Duck trotted off the field early. He knew he wasn't needed anymore that night.

Final scores: Geel 13.7(85) Roos 18.16(124)

35 Eye, yes he played well BUT he was on a bloke half his size. Hey I could kick 8 on Harley!

Correct. It takes a lot more than 2 games.
The game against Geelong ?
Outstanding performance against weak opposition, but outstanding nevertheless. What about the rest of the year ?

I remember having dinner with my uncle at the start of the 97 season and having a conversation about who was more important to our team Carey or Corey... well we know now but then it was a hard question...

Hopefully Corey can have an injury free 2001 and show all those knockers... that persist in bagging our players instead of supporting them... just how vital he can be...

CIK I am expecting a reply...

Corey is inconsistent but he is one of the few big match winners apart from Carey that we have.
People forget that after his 96 season he hurt his knee in Round 1 which stuffed his season and did his his shoulder at the end of 97 (which cost a grand final berth). His 98 season was pretty good and he did win us a grand final in 99 (we were in big trouble half way through the second term).
Apparently he is the fittest his been for ages so he may provide something this year. Our ruck is very lean this year so we need him. He has been loyal to the club, never gets into any trouble on or of-field and is involved extensively with the clubs care ofr kids and smokefree program. I hope he plays he career out at North.

Not to disappoint you.......

The question you were asking yourselves in 1997 was an appropriate one, and I would have agreed with you then. He was quite possibly the 2nd best player in the competition on the strength of his 1996 form.
My point is that he has been a liability since.
As for this bullshit about "bagging" players, I am sick of hearing it. Any time anyone suggests that a player might not be as good as he needs to be, they are accused of bagging the players. It is called critical assessment, and it happens all the time,in the workplace, particularly. It is what leads to debate, discussion and thought, and it also leads to improvement.
In this forum, it leads to exchange of opinions, which is exactly what a forum is for.

Ask a handful of regulars on both this board & the official forum for a comment on CIK & I bet they would all say something along the lines of, "that bloke who hates McKernan." You never let an opportunity pass.

I dearly hope that you don't speak negatively of any of your employees with the frequency that you hang it on McKernan.

How many "name one more game that Corey wasn't a liabilty in-s" do you need & I'm sure the rest of us can put our heads together & challenge you.

How tall was that freak that I kicked 7 on in our practice match against Team Pump on Friday? I'm 160cms.

If Cori play on Damir, Cori no kick no goals. Damir is very good full beck. Damir is also very smart man.

To paraphrase Damir,
If Corey play on CIK's mother, Corey no kick no goals. Corey is very pissweak player.

Well, he has had about 80 games since 1996, give or take a few. I will settle for 32 good games in that time (40% strike rate). You could not name 10. Supporters of other clubs regularly laugh at his attempts on the field, and frankly, he is an embarassment.

By the way, you use the word "hate" far too readily. I don't hate him, I am very critical of his contribution to the team versus the salary he earns.

Ok, the challenge has been set.
This should be fun doing a little reminiscing.

99 Prelim final against Brisbane. I had to look up the stats on this one because I knew it was a goodie & he was pretty pumped.

24 possessions, 12 marks and three goals.

What else happened in this game? Archer kicked an inspirational goal in the 3rd, McCartney fell from grace, Stevo got hurt. Awwwww.

I think I was more excited winning this game than I was for the Grand Final that year. Chalk that down to enjoying the journey more than the destination I guess.
