A few people on this board would like to see us sponsor a player so I thought we'd see how many members would be interested.
If you'd like to sponsor a player please post how much money you would be able to donate.

The poll options are yes & yes. Is that how it's meant to be?
I'd be definitely interested. Would be able to donate a bit, but not too much.

I'd need to know more about it.
How exactly does it help them?
Do they know that fans on bigfooty are sponsoring them?

Exactly. A bit more information about what it entails would be helpful.

I'll be happy to do it- but I would rather it go to a guy who is U21 and has had a few injuries, etc (Myers would be my preference)

I might be able to sponsor about 50 depending on when we need the money
Also don't forget BigFooty throws in some cash to help out, can't remember how much, someone will need to notify the chief

I'll contribute the royalties from my avatar rental ;)
i am interested but would need to know how all the perks are distributed (depending on level of sponsorship) before contributing a significant amount of dollars ($100-$500).
I think we should start a poll on who...
coz from all reports we'll have plenty of money to complete the sponsorship
i personally probably will not be able to provide money atm
but i willhelp with the organisation :)
Let's sponsor Laycock. Show the big fella that we believe in him. :)

Agreed.
Agreed.
Besides, he's got another kid on the way. At least the money would help him with raising his family.
I'm sure Myers, Reimers, Gumby, etc will just spend it on going out.

IIRC the money goes to the club, the player just changes what goodies we get in return (e.g. sponsoring Ryder would get us a signed ryder memorabilia, sponsoring davey would get us signed davey memorabilia etc)

Ok obviously people need some sort of an idea of what goes on.
If the prices stay the same the lowest sponsorship is $600 which is just the basic level (other than the Captain which is higher ).
Now the easiest way to organis this is to break it down into groups where you get 10 people to put in $60 or 20 to put in $30.
Apart from my own single player sponsorship i am also in a group of 10 that sponsor Paddy Ryder. It is very easy to do and we put in $60 each.
For those who dont know the players dont get the money , it is simply another form of raising money for the club.
The best way to attack this is probably to form 1 or 2 groups ,depending on numbers. Probably easy to get 1 group of 20 people to put in $30 initially.
One recomendation i have is not to simply go after the most popular players as these guys generally have 3 or 4 player sponsors anyway.
The best thing for the club and the young guys involved is to sponsor one of the newer players who is not so high profile. It ensures an even spread of player sponsors. The other restriction is players can not have more than 5 sponsors.
What you will need to do is
1) Someone has to take control as the group leader. This person will have to have a bank account avaialble to have the funds transfered into from the people wanting to get involved.
2)work out the numbers and cost.
3)work out a name of the group eg Bigfooty Bombers Group
4) take responsability for who gets to go to the players /sponsers function as their are limited spots per sponsorship.

I'm happy to do a lot of the organisation if someone else will provide the bank account.;)

Thanks for the summary, ant. I don't know much about the player sponsorship.

If the players don't get the money, then why should it matter whether you're sponsoring a high or low profile player?
Similarly, why is there a limit of 5 sponsors per player?
I'm having a hard time grasping this one...

It is pretty easy , the club likes to see an even spread over all the players. If there where no restrictions put on players like Lloyd would end up with 15 or 20 sponsors while the rookie guys would have none.
Rather hard to put the player sponsor board up or run functions if only half the list have sponsors ;)

Hmm okay, I think I'm getting a clearer picture now then.
Its just a bit of a touchy feely thing where we can say we're sponsoring such and such a player, the club just gets the cash and the player gets the motivational boost of knowing a group of fans think enough of him to name him as their preferred player to sponsor.
Is that pretty much the crux of it?

I agree with what Ant said. I think we should steer clear of the more senior players and sponsor an 08 draftee.
Claim him straight from the start. :thumbsu:

Pretty much.
In years gone by the sponsorship used to pay for the players jumpers shorts and socks but with apparel sponsors on board now the player sponsorship has no real meaning other than the club making a few extra dollars .

we could also sponsor the coach - what better way to promote the Big Footy Essendon groups faith in Knights?

If you're on Facebook, please look for my Matty Knights support group!!
I'm interested in sponsoring. But what would "we" do with things like a signed jumper? Auction for charity perhaps?
I will chip in. We should sponsor whover is drafted at number 5.

Yeah we should definitely do a 1st or 2nd year player and make him feel welcome at the club.
I would also support sponsoring Jason Laycock.

I would be able to chip in a few quid.
But more importantly we'd need a sweet name.
Reading over the brochure RIG posted i found a few pearlers.
Courtney Johns - The Disciples of Johns
Andrew Lee - The Andy Lee Ensemble
Henry Slattery - The Slattery Seven
Angus Monfries - The Monfries Three
Paddy Ryder - The Paddy Wagon
Jason Laycock - EFC Ladies Group (Ironic?)

Have we got a tresurer yet?
Who decides who gets the free stuff, because if you have 10 people in the sponsorship, the packages seem to only give out enough stuff for two people? It seems unfair that everyone chips in the same amount of money, yet only some will get the benefit of the freebies.

Probably decide by pulling names out of a hat.

Perhaps the people that put the most money in should benefit the most, if all the same amount by all then I propose a 3 legged race around Windy Hill finished off with a game of last person standing in the social room.;)
Before you get too carried away you may have to wait and see who is avaialbale to be sponsored ;) Sponsors of players who have left the club (retired or delisted) get first options.:)
Whoever organises it and speaks to the club will get the likely list of players who are available.:thumbsu:

I'm willing to chip in, around the 50 dollar mark would have to be my limit though, on a pretty tight budjet at the moment. However, I'd like to know who we'd sponsor, and whether it would be put to a vote or simply picked by the treasurer. On the matter of the free perks and what have you, you could count me out, I'm not interested in this for the free stuff, I just like the idea of supporting the club in another way besides my membership.
