This will be hard... of the ones I have seen Wayne Schwass, Peter German and John Burns stand out... but my Mum says Les Foote was the Greatest ever... almost as good as Carey... now that is hard to believe...
So to please my Mum... I vote for Les Foote...

Matty Larkin, Stevo or Schimma (even though Matty and Schimma probably spent time out of the square I personally consider them as centremen.
Can't seperate them.....anyone got a three sided coin?
Cheers
Gonzo
Larkin won 3 B&F's so he'd be up there. Les Foote has a stellar reputation but he played well before my time, so Larkin based on what I've seen. Watch this space for Byron Pickett!
Rooboys mum is right. Foote was all class (again by what ive been told) and seems to be the stand out. Apologys to Stevens, Burns
and Xavier http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/wink.gif but again i will go with the legend.
Matty was very good in the middle although he was more of a ruckrover.
My pick would be John Burns. Great in and under player and a beautiful kick of the ball. Rarely wasted a possesion.
Come to think of it, he would fit in very nicely in the side this year, thank you very much.

Yep, I'm here Rooboy....just a few computer problems....my ISP must be very busy. Anyway, my vote goes to Stevo, just ahead of Matthew Larkin (who I have as my ruck rover anyway).
Wish I saw John Burns and Les Foote though....you talk to old timers and their eyes just glisten when speaking about them.
I AM GOING TO HAVE TO VOTE FOR STEVO MAINLY COS WE MISSED HIS WORK FOR MOST OF LAST SEASON AND I REALISED HOW GOOD HE REALY IS.
VOTE 1 STEVO

i will have to agree with your mum roo boy after reading the north story they say les foote was a champion footballer a real stand out i would have loved to have seen him play . from the 70s j.burns, 80s m.larkin,90s a.stevens .
although i never saw him play, "doctor" aylett must come close
I never saw Les Foote play but he has a great reputation.
However I think that Stevens deserves this spot!!

Like most people here I never saw Les Foote play, but stories about him are legendary. In my time, the best centreman I've seen is Anthony Stevens.

I vote for Foote, but only on other's word.
In my time, Stevens has to be ... dual best and fairest in a time when our club was the best in the business - lower than third only once since 1993.
Obvious choice.
Larkin was wonderful, but in an ordinary side when he was flanked by the Krakouer brothers.
Stevens has to be the one - Burns wasn't around for long enough, but he was brilliant, so I have to throw him in there.

Perhaps we should put a time limit on this team.
Most of the people posting seem to have seen North only in the last 20 years.
That does not matter when you are voting
CHF Carey
CHB Glendinning
FB Dench
But when voting for other positions it may!
Grendel pointed out the influx of the Greats that came to the club in the early 70`s and combined with the then youngsters such as Kekovitch put us in The Grand Final 5 years in a row ,with 2 Flags. Surely it is an injustice to dismiss these players because no one has seen them,or in other cases they had played their best football at other clubs
etc.
Then there are the other recognised greats who played in the 50`s and 60`s.We never won any flags in this period but there were great players who kept us competitive such as Peter Steward,John Dugdale,Noel Teasdale,Allen Aylett,Albert Mantello,Lawrie Dwyer etc
Further back there is Jock Spencer,Les Foote
and maybe a few others that make teams like the Best To Play For North Melbourne.
The Foote v Stevens debate brings this fact to light. Foote is always voted the best by those with long memories. This may be right or wrong.
To overcome all this why dont we make our team the best in 20 or 30 years. Take you pick?

Agree with the points you made, but I figure we just let people make up their own minds on who to vote for. The Dench vs Martyn issue brought it to a head for me. As CIK put it, "Anyone who saw Dench would not vote for Martyn", but the fact is, I've seen all of Martyn's career, but never saw Dench in his prime. I have no doubt that if I did see Dench, then I would have voted for Dench, but I can only vote on what I have seen. Sadly, it means that I'll never be able to vote for Kekovich, Foote, Dwyer, Nolan, Aylett, Spencer and co, but that's only because I haven't seen them. For those that have seen them, they can compare Kekovich to Carey, Foote to Stevens, Teasdale to Dempsey etc. and vote accordingly. To others, just their reputations or stories from those who did see them would be enough for them to vote for the oldies and that is valid. But for me, I have to see them play before I vote for them.
Les Foote for mine .He is considered a legend at the club.
I`m not too sure when he played.
Was it the period 1945 to 1955?

IMHO I think people should vote for who they want when they want... I take your points on board... maybe in a months time we can do best since 1980 or something along that line... but as we are nearly half way through the team I think we should leave it alone... I really wanted to hear what people had to say more then worrying who would win... Like I can tell you now Peter Jonas will get a vote from me but probably only me... because he was my favorite... I seemed to always pick the ones that got injuried... I hope you understand what I mean...
and is the fight for centre hotting up...
