I thourght it would be good to get the big footy North team to pick their greatest North Team... so lets start with Full Forward only on vote per fan aan give us your reason(s)...
For me it is Johnny Longmire... Club Record Holder... saw him kick 14 against Melbourne as a 18 year old... you can only dream how good he would have been without the stuffed knees he ended up with... and any player that can kick over 500 goals in their career with the King standing 40 metres in front of him... is an outright Champion...
So there it is one vote for Johnny Longmire...

John Longmire was the only North player that I saw who made the full forward position his own. I never saw Jock Spencer and Doug Wade, and I only have some vague memories of Phil Baker, so the Horse gets my vote.
Ditto Shinners, minus the vague memories of Snake.
longmire, jock spencer, phil baker and malcom blight in his later years
another vote for the horse
Yep Horse for mine
Honorable mentions to Blighty and Snake!
Cheers

I tend to differ from you guys here, I know that Longmire has all the records and such behind him, and his career was ruined by knee injuries and he was a true champion.. BUT he did miss a lot of goals that he should have kicked, and he wasn't the traditional high marking full forward - in my opinion it has to be Malcolm Blight.

Doug Wade for mine!
He was one of the all time greats in this position.
He played for 10 years at Geelong and 3 years for us from 1973 to 1975.
I would keep Blight for a ruck roving position.

I vote for Horse. Did you all know he is Makey's player manager? With a mentor like that, Makey's gunna become a little superstar one day.
Doug Wade was a great full forward. Although i am inclined to lean towards John Longmire as north's best. If he wasn't so unlucky with injuires he could have been on the great all time full forwards.

Hope you dont mind me adding a vote Rooboy, but i love these type of things.
I agree with what most of the others said that Longmire was crippled by injury, yet he still managed to kick over 500 (a feat very few have ever done) in his career. Yet for all that, im going to go with tradition and name Spencer. This bloke was a legend according to some of the old timers ive known (and living in Moonee Ponds and frequeting certain pubs in the area, i knew a lot of old timers). Apparently he was 2nd only to Coleman as the full forward of the fifties. Thats a fair wrap in itself.
Blight was just a freak who could play anywhere, that he could kick over a hundred in a season being somewhat short for a traditional full forward speaks for itself. Wade (though another century goal scorer for you) was really a Geelong great i guess, bit hard to say he was your best ever ff (like me saying Salmon was the Hawks best ruck, but you know...) The other trouble i have with Horse is that ton he didnt kick (was it 98 he finished with?) when he should have. 2goals 7 behinds or something? I know he was only a kid but he still should have kicked it that day.
So i will go with Spencer for traditions sake. Cheers.
I would also have to say Shlongers http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
My vote is with Malcolm Blight.
He only had a few years as FF but what sensational years they were.

Much as I like the Horse I'm also going to go with Blighty (despite his ability to play in a number of positions)

I have a soft spot for Horse, but I would have to go Blight. (and Wade, for that matter)

Blight was a better player in fairness, but for longevity in the position and an awesome strike rate in a side with Carey kicking 70 a year as well, Longmire has to win.
I wonder how many tons he would have kicked without the King - more because he would have been the focal point or less because he would have taken a lesser defender.
Bear in mind he kicked 98 in 1990 when he was our No. 1 forward.
Blight only spent one year there, and if we were picking a side Blight would play on the flank would he not???????
While I'm here ... you'd be crazy to go past Blight. I remember taking some sports mad Poms to see their first game of Aussie Rules at Arden St and it coincided with a Blight spectacular - the huge grabs, the impossible goals. They were ALL hooked.
And I was there at PP when .. well, you know. The ball is still coming down.
He's up there with Jezza and Ablett in the WOW barometer.

Interesting that the votes are almost inversely proportional to their length of time out of the game. I will ask the question I asked about the best FB. How many of the folk who are voting for Longmire, actually saw Wade and Blight play ?

My vote goes to the great Doug Wade.
Played his last Game in the 1975 Grand Final!

I saw them all play and would pick Longmire. Wade was well past his best when he joined North, and though he kicked many goals for us in his 3 years, he was very one dimensional. He very nearly got dropped for the '75 Grand Final, and was very lucky to hold his place.
Blight was used in many places other than FF, so for that reason I would rate him as a better Ruck Rover.
Phil Baker could have been a top FF, but consistency was a problem for him.
So for all these reasons, my vote is for Horse.

WADE
You people are dills.longmire is not a great.
THE ICON
Wade and Blight were better players.
Wade was at North for three years kicking 73, 103 and 47 goals.
Blight played 2 years at FF kicking 70 and 103.
Longmire played most of his career there and averaged around 3.5 goals per game for games actually played at FF over the period of 5-6 years.
So Wade and Blight also had only a couple of good years at FF, and that's the position we are voting on.
John Longmire was the first full forward that I saw make the position really his.
