View Full Version : sick of merged XXX into that'll do
The question is simple
Do we need to funnel the our whole board into just one thread (http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=498619)
right now or can we wait for the real off season begins before we send BF bombers off to bomberblitz for their meal.
Re-phrased......
What is it with this haste of shifting the threads, re: players into the abyss [of merged threads] from where 'you' are never truly sure what page you left yesterday to where you are now.
It makes for a painful visit.
My suggestion is that we all just do the summer exodus now lest it gets worse or better can we less strictly shop threads to a neat home??
It might make for a clean board but it is barren.
My view:::::Scrambling through threads is something some of you can easily do every day but I will bet that a lot of new members who join just now [as they do every year] and also some members who are less frequent and do not navigate the board every day are not made to feel so capricious if we wish to post when the thread starter is NOW merely just a subject heading amougst a 100 summarily other merged threads. Zero point.
It may be clean and organised for those that are familar but is far from user friendily
Anyhow, in chief's terms it just doesn't even build traffic.
It mightily sucks

Yeah, it's crap.
Players being traded/delisted/drafted warrant a thread each, rather than one massive thread that is difficult to read.

The merge trade/delistings/draft thread is a bad idea.
I'd rather more threads even though some might by similar or go off topic.

My thoughts exactly, it is not as if we are overflowing with threads anyway

Yeah,
and its also really annoying when you click on the moved thread and you get the first page of the merged thread.

If the merged thread's are up to part 3's and part 4's... Then Thats gotta say something.
I'd just be happy with individual threads like just one Delist thread, and 1 trade thread, and 1 draft thread.
Hell, lets make a Michael Hurley thread to get more specific.
The admins are cutting down on big sized threads by making new ones after 1000 posts are done.
Its a simple solution...
I am surprised at the quick feedback here guys. :thumbsu:
I rarely post threads and as they usually go south but good to hear some positive feedback on this one.
But when something shits me though, I am not short on voice

I agree its like spandex over an orgy. What event are you really interested in? You have no volition how to vent your frustrations????
Finding The Donners in such a mess can be very tricky:D

I'm sick of the merging. A board with only 3 active topics isn't a good thing. Different threads encourage different topics of discussions, different sides to a debate, different flows in the conversation. Merging everything into those huge things makes it nigh on impossible to follow anything.
I mean at some point we were discussing Stanton, I came back a couple of hours later and suddenly we were discussing someone else. I couldn't find the Stanton discussion posts so that discussion just vanished into the night. It shits me.

I have to agree. I don't get to talk to many AFL fans up here in Bris-vegas, and so when I see an article about a gun player coming up to the draft or a player up for trade I check Big Footy to see what people are saying about him. But diving in to the plethora of posts on trades and drafts all in two places I find that I can't get a handle on it. Even if I can find a post or two on the player mentioned, the surrounding posts are on continuing conversations that I cannot follow and have to go back several pages to understand. Can't each of these SEPARATE conversations be given thier own little place in the world. I find I am coming here less often because I can't follow things and am left feeling like an outsider. One of the reasons why I joined this place was to feel included - at such a distance.
Please help moderators. Ant old son, this is your chance to make a big impact as a new mod! Really though, all of you guys, please don't let us drift away.
We will now see if this board is democratic or a dictatorship. ;)
Do the people have voice?

Well, I endorse your sentiment warney but I just re-read my OP and if you and the other guys understood it then they have half a chance.

Completely agree. I'll be frank. Our board is quite boring. Not enough threads to keep me entertained. Traffic seems mighty slow also. I have no choice but to navigate myself to other parts of this site that are more interesting. It's sad because I joined to mainly talk Bombers but unfortunately this Board doesn't adequately supply that.
agree with all here so far
mods?

I tend to agree with all that has been said.
Our board seems to be one of the quietest on the site so I am not sure why so many get merged.
It's the time of the year where I want to learn more about our possible trades, delistings and draftees but when i venture into the meged thread it is like a dogs breakfast.
The most frustrating part of all is when you see a topic that really interests you only to notice that it has been moved and then when you click on it it takes you to a place where that subject is nowhere to be seen and you must search through 100's of posts to find the subject.

Yep, I agree.
The merged draft/trade threads were goood ideas during the season as the main topic of conversation was the footy. Now, however, with no footy being played the talk is all about trade week and the draft. Abolish the merged threads.

I'm up for individual threads.
This Bomber board is severely lacking in posts, nobody bothers to come here because there's just so little activity.
Something needs to be done.
I am not a huge fan of merging everthing and at times i have thought that certain threads did not really need to be merged if they where discussing a specific issue.
It is a bit of a pain to read through 3 or 4 pages every day to catch up with what has been happening in the draft and trade threads.
Now the reason why they get merged is easy. Do you want to be going to page 2 or 3 everyday to find the threads you where commenting in ?
That is what happens if it is let go unchecked and it is not what the admin of the site is looking for. Hundreds of threads with only 6 or 7 replies in them on issues that could be combined into one thread.
I think it just needs to be refined a little.
All the Ben Cousins stuff could have had its own thread for example.
One thing to remember for those who are posting is that it would be nice to read what is on the board before making new threads. Multiple threads on the same topic was one of the reasons everything ended up being thrown into a bigger thread.
Another reason is the tendancy for subjects to head off in another direction. Often it will start with we should get Cousins and end up talking about trading for someone else which is why it ends up in the trade thread.

It's Mervs obsession Ant. Had a look at the Main Board since he started modding that? Every third topic either gets merged or moved. It's stupid.

If you could see the board from our view then you may understand.
I still get to see all the merged and deleted threads that have not had a redirect put on them and trust me if we did not tidy a lot of it up you would be looking for page three to find a thread you commented in yestreday.;)
If i look at the board now i can see two redirects plus a number of deleted threads , several of which are a double up of a previous subject.
I agree that maybe not all need to be merged but some common sense in the subject matter that people post needs to be onbserved as well.
Lets face it we dont need 4 threads on Hurley or variations of it.
And it is not stupid. Stupid is the number of things we have to remove from the board from posters who obviously can not read .

I'd be happy to keep the merged threads for discussion of players like Harris, or draftees like Redden, but I reckon the following threads would be good:
Sticky: Merged Trade/Delistings Threads
Sticky: Merged Draft Threads
Draft Camp
Draft: Michael Hurley
Draft: Steele Sidebottom
Draft: Jack Ziebell
Draft: Hamish Hartlett
Trade: Andrew Lovett
Ben Cousins
That way the main topics get their own thread, but random 3rd round possbilities, or shit players out of contract don't clutter up the board.
It's the best of both worlds.
Last year the biggest criticism of this board was that it was a mess and there were duplicate threads left right and centre.
You all should have received an email that advised that over the off season there was going to be a thread asking for feedback and ways to improve the board, what you like, don't like etc.
I have asked Ant and RIG to bring this forward and start a thread in Windy Hill asking for this feedback and also a question as to whether you guys still want merged threads or not and this was raised as a topic with them a couple of weeks ago, so i hope you do realise this is your board and within reason what you guys want is what will happen.
One thing that you may not be aware of is that when you have multiple threads, no matter what the topic is, you end up repeating yourself over and over and you get threads that are discussing the same thing in multiple threads, you have people asking questions in one thread that are being answered in another.
I have taken a step back from Moderating this board and it is now in the capable hands of Ant and RIG so they will be the two that will take things forward from here.
For those that deleted or didn't receive the email, here it is.
Bombers supporters don't forget that there is another season about to begin. The Trade and Draft season.
Our board will be holding a draft tipping competition prior to the draft with a BFSC membership as the first prize, as well as bragging rights, for the poster who is closest to tipping our draft choices.
As most of you would know ant555 and foj1 have provided great player profiles so far and after the trade period things will really heat up as discussion rages as to who will be our picks.
After the draft period we will also be holding polls on what you want to see more of on our board as well as suggestions of how we can improve and make our board even better, is that possible?
And like last year we will also hold the annual player consensus to see who the majority think will be our best 22 and their positions.
Look forward to seeing you all participating and keeping our board rocking over summer.
Make sure you are all signed up for Windy Hill, to participate in the threads to be held.

I completely agree with the OP, it's hard enough trauling through that massive thread on my PC, however since my work started to crack it about my choice of net use, I've had to start using my iPhone, anyone who has one will understand the annoyance of cruising through 30 odd pages, zooming in and out constantly. More threads please
Now do you undrstand what i mean about reading. Despite asking that the discussion be put in the thread in the Windy Hill section we still have a continuing discussion happening here.
Thread is now closed.
