Just a query as to how many of us are members and what sort.
And also those of you who aren't, what reasons you have for not paying up.
Thanx

I'm both an AFL member with a Kangaroo club support and a Captain Club member.
Im an Aussie Roo.
Why? Because i live in canberra and dont get to Melbourne enough to warrant anything else.
Hmmmm
Haven't bought mine yet (waiting to see if I get into uni, then hopefully getting a concession one), but I'm trying to decide between the Legends one and Pagans Patrons which are identical really apart from the name and the medallion you get. Whichever I decide on, I will also get the away game upgrade.

Darky and Spidergirl,
I would get concession memberships either way. They rarely (the ticket people), if ever, check which kind of tickets you have, especially with the barcode technology they have at all grounds now.
You could probably get in with a child's ticket and you would have no problems.

Pagans Patron & Upgrade. I am really desparate to know what I scored in the way of reserved seating at Colonial because I really loved my home seats last year.

Last year at Colonial, my daughter accidently went in on my ticket, and I went in on hers, and all of sudden I had about 5 staff around me, requesting a please explain. Apparently, what happened when I put her ticket under the barcode, a little orange light flashes up on the other side indicating what type of ticket. Luckily, they realised it was just a mistake..

Funny how someone who barracks for a club that cheated on the salary cap is now advocating that you should cheat by getting a concession ticket whether you warrant one or not http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/wink.gif
Anyway, I've got an AFL membership (restricted) with North Melbourne club support and I'll be getting my Pagan's Patron in the next month or so.
Thanks for reminding me guys, I've yet to out my form in. Because I live in Canberra and don't get to Melbourne as offen as I used to , I'll probably go for the Aussie Roos package.

Whilst we are on this subject, can someone please explain to me why you would take out an AFL membership ?
Don't get defensive now, but I have never really understood why you would not have a club membership, and in fact I don't understand why such a thing as AFL memberships even exists.
Some have both, and that's fair enough but what do you get out of AFL membership ?
(I stress that this is a sincere question and not a criticism.)

Trample the Weak,
Hurdle the Dead.
The value of an AFL membership is(or was) to go to 24 games during the season plus all Melbourne finals incl GF for full members.
Good Value but the mongrels at the AFL continually change the rules to make it harder to get a GF seat. This year members with the club support package of the teams competing in the GF get priority. I think I'm better off going back to Pagon's Patron.
At least then the club gets all of my money.
Croode
CIK, my brother in law is the only person I know who makes full use of his AFL membership in that he goes to a couple of games each weekend. That's perfect for him, he's a big AFL fan & hasn't missed a grand final in a few years.
But I agree with what you're raising. Having sat in the AFL members last year under the North Upgrade at away games, I was surprised. I always thought that they must have had better facilities in there to have inticed such a strong membership. Apart from the location being near the race & the coaches box, its much the same as sitting in the outer.
My boyfriend on the other hand takes out MCC & Legends memberships. At least they've got the tradition, (if that's what you're into), they can get into the cricket & some other events and the takeaway food is superb.
I believe we only have around 2000 AFL club supporters which is probably why they let us in as part of the away game upgrade arrangement.

CIK
If you nominate the club you support on your AFL membership, the actual cost of a general club membership (say $100) is subtracted from your total membership, hence you are both a member of your club and the AFL.
You can also go the cricket for half price and sit in the AFL members area (even though it is a reduced area to about 2 sections). The main attraction is that the membership pays for itself just by attending the finals series (assuming all games are played in Melbourne).

My best friend is an AFL member, so that's why I got a membership. Before he got married, we would often see two games every weekend, so we got full value out of our membership.
But due to work, he hasn't been able to attend as many matches in recent years and late last year, I considered giving up my AFL membership. I get far more benefits from being a Pagans Patron, but after a fair bit of consideration, I decided to keep the AFL membership for at least this season.
Myself and "the other half" have had Pagan's Patrons memberships since '97.
With only a standard membership in '96 we couldn't get a ticket to the GF for love nor money (well, a reasonable amount anyway!).
Can't fault it, whilst other friends who support the likes of Essendon and Carlton have sweated it out worrying if they'd get their ticket, we're guaranteed one if we make it.

I'm not advocating anything, Shinboners. All I'm saying is that since someone is probably going to uni they might as well get a concession membership. Even if you don't get in (that is, to uni) you could still use the concession ticket if you really wanted to.
For example, say someone bought their membership in November, they would still be a student, thus tecnically they could buy a concession membership.

Hey Rooboy, here's another Essendon trait, backpedalling. Are you Dim24 in disguise? http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/wink.gif I would've thought that by stating "get a concession either way" is pretty much advocating the purchase of a concession ticket whether or not you deserve one or not.
Forget the technicalities Same Olds, what about taking responsibility for your own actions? Y'know, acting ethically. If you're not entitled to get a concession membership, then you shouldn't get one. Just because there is a loophole doesn't mean that you have to exploit it. The people you are ripping off are the club (who need the money) and the other members (who are doing the right thing).

Where did you guys line up for GF tickets in '96? All I did was go to my local Bass outlet (Doncaster Shoppingtown) on the MORNING that the tickets were available....there were no more than 50 people in the queue and I got my tickets within 90 minutes using my basic membership.

Spidey,
I'm certain I've read something somewhere about the predicament you're in. If you're considered a full time student by a particular date then you may be entitled to concession membership for the entire season.
But keep at it with your enquiries at the clubs & ticketmaster because you can't buy an adult membership in the second half of the year if you had to anyway, can you? (Not that you would want to though.)

Okay, I'm not too sure if they still use these, but one of those digits is probably what's called a "check digit". The "check digit" is derived from the other numbers in the serial number and validates the entire number...if that makes any sense.

I got Lasscock/Martyn/Archie/Winnie/Carey & the unknown quantity of 32.
I was given, Martyn/Archer/Anderson/Carey/McKernan/39
Devo - you got Anderson????? He's sunning himself back in lovely Perth.
I wonder who will get 14, more importantly who will get 13?
Oh and 8,9,16,19,20,21,24,26,30,32,39,40???

My spouse and I get a Platinum Pagans and a reserve seat, the upgrade and the premiers club membership. We also attend two interstate games each year which we always book through Kanga Travel (Jetset). We had great reserve seats at Colonial last year. We are hoping we get good seats this year as well. We would never be without our membership. We know to many fantatical north supporters who would track us down and inflict pain upon us.

They should have retired 19... a dud number for years... sadly Motlop is the unlucky bastard (used in the sweetest of all terminology) this year....
I have always been a pagans patron until last year when I was a player sponsor of my buddy Brady Anderson, this year I am sponsoring Mark Hilton.

My brother is a die hard Swans supporter (the whole family is cept me), his daughter was born on Grand Final Day 1996, now because of this significant date you'd think I would convince him to make her follow the roos, but Nooooooooooooo.

We have very similiar numbers I got:
Martin / Number 8 / Archer / 13 / Calthorpe and Carey. I wonder if that means, if all the numbers come up bar 8 & 38, we will be rich together, or 100 people have the same numbers as us...interesting, does anybody know the terms and conditions..
