View Full Version : IR - No Bombers
I would've liked to see:
Ryder, Reimers, Lovett, Davey, Jetta, Houli,
thoughts???

Don't want any to risk injury.

Davey and Houli are still recovering from their injuries.
Lovett probably the only that fits the MM criteria.
Davey would not be ready as yet
IR doesn't really interest me so as RiG said, not having to worry about any of our frail, injury prone (kidding) players is good from my perspective.

Maybe if they weren't all recovering from injuries or operations, and had played some decent stretches of good footy through the year. Gotta earn your spot.
Matty Lappin was on SEN today, and he was saying that about 100 players were contacted around May this year to see if they had any interest in playing. Without naming too many names, quite alot of these players made themselves unavailable. This could have been the case for some Bomber players.

I love HBF's tagline: "Proud to be unofficial."
Had to be a Carlton supporter.
Not specifically pointing this (IR selection) out - but a few teams, players and media are going to get bit quite savagely on the a$$ very soon.
At first I was unhappy, but our guys could break a leg getting out of bed the way they're going, so I'd just like to have 40 fit and firing players come pre season!

We had 20 odd blokes who had postseason surgery, that would of ruled just about all of them out.
Then there were the likes of Davey who aren't far enough advanced in their recovery, nor have the form lines to warrant selection.
Not surprised.
Lovett should have been picked, but he would have missed out on MM good bloke policy.
I haven't seen the team, any Bombers make it? Doubt it.

As per the thread title mate, no Bombers.

Obviously this policy only applies to AA teams then...
Ryder would've been a good keeper imo, better than Firrito :(

Fletch should have been the keeper...

Good news, don't need injuries in pointless IR games.

Does anyone care about the IR?
I have zero interest in it, even if we had Ess players in it. I might watch the highlights on the news but that's it.

I watch it, purely because of the lack of proper footy.

It's been said before, that is good for the development of young players, being surrounded by some of the best in the business and learning how they prepare.
If the likes of Reimers, Houli etc get a gig next year, it would do wonders for them.
We want players playing in this thing, especially young ones.

Amen brothers. I'm stoked we haven't got anyone playing in it. Absolute rubbish.

They're already surrounded by some of the best in the business. ;)

What's this "we" white man?
Speak for yourself. I don't want anyone injured playing a stupid game that doesn't mean anything. :thumbsu:
Put Nashy in, maybe he won't shank the kicks when it's a round ball! :P
haha but seriously, in the next couple of years i would expect to see the likes of Reimers, Houli and a fit Dempsey (i can dream!) in an IR squad
No Bombers = No Injuries
Lets focus on our pre-season and hit the ground running when the nab cup kicks off.

Yep, some.
IR gives more.
Malthouse has coached for 25 years, young players should look to learn from every single resource they can. IR gives a great opportunity for that.

Brent Stanton said it himself.
Meant something to him.

How much would you seriously expect them to learn in such a short period?
I'd much rather see SOO played in the off season. At least that actually means something.

Good on him. While this isn't levelled at Brent, I'm sure no player is going to come out and say its rubbish.
But it is.. IMO.

Players don't have to play...
Yet they do.
James Hird, Michael Voss, Chris Judd, Nathan Buckley...
They all played, it all meant something to them.

Three out of four players that were nearing retirement.. may have had something to do with it?
Who knows. Call me cynical.
We're obviously going to have to agree to disagree on this one Longy. :)

You're right.
Hird was seven years from retirement when he played.

Okay, I've actually only just seen the squad for the IR games.
The only players I would classify as some of the "best in the business" in this year's squad is Brent Harvey and maybe Scott Thompson. The rest are either very young themselves or average players at best.
Not really worth it on a risk versus reward basis I would have thought.

Nathan Bock (AA), Shaun Burgoyne, Daniel Wells, Nathan Foley.
Campbell Brown is said to possess fantastic leadership skills, Brad Sewell, Marc Murphy and Jarrad Rooke the same.
I refuse to accept that a player like Kyle Reimers couldn't learn from that crew.
Sure, he has players to learn from at Essendon, but the Essendon way isn't always the right way.
