Pinched this from the AFL board, thought it would be interesting to do now that the SANFL season is over...

***

In 2002, who/what is/are...

The best team?
Sturt

The worst team?
Glenelg, South Adelaide

The most under-achieving team?
Port Adelaide

The most over-achieving team?
Don't think anyone really over-achieved... Norwood probably did better than I thought they would

The best player?
Jade Sheedy, and me being biased says Tim Weatherald

The worst player?
Our entire league side at times... some pathetic, un-interested performances.

The most controversial off field drama?
Can't think of many... maybe Brenton Honor's sackings? Surely there has been worse than that... jog my memory guys...

The most controversial on field drama?
As above

The moments you loved?
Our few and far between wins... beating Port at Alberton was fantastic, and beating North after the siren was unbelievable. From a non-South perspective, I was obviously pleased with the Grand Final result too :)

The moments you hated?
The majority of the season... we missed the finals again, played like sh*t for much of the year. Our swansong for the year was a loss to Glenelg, which was probably an appropriate end to another shocking season.

How do you assess your team's performance? (honestly)
Absolutely awful for most of the year. Played well for passages, but rarely put it together for a whole quarter, let alone a whole game. The Port game was probably our best performance... a great 4 quarter effort with few lapses.

And finally, what are you looking forward to in 2003?
Greg Anderson's promised 'aggressive recruiting campaign'...

Best team
Sturt

Worst team
South, closely followed by the tiges.

Under Achievers
Eagles (Norwood came close because of their finals campaign)

Over Achievers
West maybe?

Best Player
(on games I saw) Brett James

Worst Player
Adam Contessa - fat, slow, greedy

Off field
Borchard's sacking, Port sacking Rhino & Eugene

On Field
Centrals vs Port blue (adelaide Oval?). Where Meady said he was ashamed to play for the Mudpies and the brothers Williams had a "disagreement". I think Mark actually rang a doggy player (one of the stevens?) to apologise for the on-field "behaviour" of some of the magpies.

Moments you loved
beating Port, discovering BigFooty! Meeting Wegs for the first time in 10(?) years

Moments you hated
Tim Ginever @ the state game. Losing to Norwood 2nd or 3rd round after leading all day, losing to Centrals later in the year after leading all day, losing to North when Golding went boonta(and got banished to the ressies for about 10 weeks), Trading McEntee to Norwood (F@#K!!!!!), realising Snout's bar was gone for the whole year.

Team's performances
SHIEZZENHAUSSEN!!!!!
Recruiting of players this year was very god, with one notable exception.
Injuries to big men in the middle half of the season didn't help, BUT...
They weren't fit enough. Their skills SUCKED. I don't know how many times I saw players miss targets 30 metres away with no pressure. Their handball was diabolical, even worse than their kicking. Just with better disposal the Tiges could have won 6 or 7 games this season.
Having said that, I think South were a worse team than Glenelg for a majority of the season. If only we could have pinched that game in round one. (There is some sort of irony in that South's best players were Fitzy and the Murrays - all AFL players!)
which leads me to...

And finally, what are you looking forward to in 2003?
Drinking beer from the TSHill trophy in the middle of Glenelg Oval.
(An icey cold Southwark of course).

The moments you loved?
Last kick win over the wiggles and seeing ciccolella cry.

The moments you hated?
That's a bleeding obvious one.

How do you assess your team's performance? (honestly)
Record breaking year in terms of win/loss ratio.
dissappointing ending.

Beating Port on my 21st birthday and obviously Grand Final day :D

The moments you hated?
Having to travel to Elizabeth Oval twice

How do you assess your team's performance? (honestly)
Muchly improved from 2001. Still a lot of work to be done- like actually playing 4 quarters week in week out rather than just on Grand Final

And finally, what are you looking forward to in 2003?
Seeing whether Greg Anderson gets a better hair do than he currently has!!! :D

The moments you loved?
Belting out a few bars of 'We are the Champions' on Grand Final night in the Crows shed. Getting to drink beer out of the TS Hill trophy after I swore I would do it one day.

The moments you hated?
Missing most of an historic season

How do you assess your team's performance? (honestly)
Awesome.

Not given a chance leading up to the finals, being rated as the most ordinary of the top 3, not having beaten Centrals all year and then thumping them in the game that counted.

And finally, what are you looking forward to in 2003?
Back to back premierships (fingers crossed).. perhaps not missing a game next year.
