I know there is a much more important game on atm :p, but NZ are 5/70 batting first, Mashrafe Mortaza 3/19, good start.

They really should promote Vettori, he seems to be their saviour time after time.

6/130 now, after 37.3 overs. Probably will be looking to make 200 - I wouldn't think the Tigers could chase that down unfortunately.

Southee hits the last ball for 4 (and the first ball of the last over for 6) and they finish at 9/201

BLPC08
9 Oct 2008, 16:44
Well the Kiwis managed to bat out all of their overs somehow, they finished up with 9/201.

Ashraful will need to fire if the Tigers are to have a chance, we all know that he is capable - but whether he can actually deliver is yet to be seen.

Didn't the Bangas just lose half the side that played Australia recently to the ICL ?

Great going NZ :D

Seriously how does Bracewell still have a job?

Have NZ won any meaningful series or come close to winning any series whilst he has been coach?

Sure they don't have any champions but thats just ridiculous.

well done Bangers!!!!!!!

hopefully this is just another flash in the pan win. They have finally put a good bowling and batting performance in. Batting has always let them down but to win by 7 wickets is great (normally is 2 or 3)

Go the tigers :thumbsu:

BLPC08
10 Oct 2008, 18:21
Nah, New Zealand are more like the Brisbane Lions of cricket - they can win at home against every team except the best (Australia) but away from home they are a completely different story.

The Tigers on the other hand, well they have had a similar start to their International competition to what St.Kilda had in the early VFL years...... but they are capable every now and then.

The Kiwis are home - unfortunately.

Even still, if the Tigers can keep restricting teams to 200-220 each match they are bound to start winning more games - they simply need to improve their batting!

14 Oct 2008, 19:56
I wish bangladesh would find some half decent batsmen. Their bowling and fielding is definitely world class, seem to be able to keep teams to relatively low totals. Their batting is about as good as a local b-grade team however.

1st Test

Iain O'Brien holds his spot ahead of Tim Southee and Mark Gillespie. They're playing 2 spinners and Jesse Ryder debuts. But he'll have to wait a while to bat at number 3 because Bangladesh have won the toss and will bat. From their last game they've had to replace Shahriar Nafees, Aftab Ahmed and Mohammad Rafique who have gone to the ICL. In come Rajin Saleh, Mehrab Hossain jnr and Naeem Islam for his Test debut

Bangers: Tamim, Siddique, Saleh, *Ashraful, Hossain, Shakib, +Rahim, Islam, Razzak, Mortaza, Shahadat
Kiwis: Redmond, How, Ryder, Taylor, +McCullum, Flynn, Oram, *Vettori, Mills, O'Brien, Patel
Umps: Harper, de Silva

Cricinfo scores (http://content-aus.cricinfo.com/bdeshvnz/engine/current/match/361758.html) will show Siddique couldn't survive his first ball from O'Brien and they're 1/0

seriously how awful is this batting performance by bangladesh? new zealand's bowling attack these days cant even match it in club cricket! i mean, new zealand is usually a team australia profiteers its averages against

did bangladesh hear something about how everyone was talking about their surly attitude? in they take the same approach to every game, go out there try hit a six every ball - even test matches

this ridiculous extreme in attitude adjustment will surely demoralise this young team even further if they get bowled out for a mediocre score

Disagree, it's easy enough to restrict a team to about 200 on a shocking turning wicket in a one day game, lets see if they can bowl NZ out for under 350 in a test, i doubt they will.
Shariar (dunno the correct spelling) Nafees looked quite a player 2 years ago but hasn't come on, either has Aftab.
Agree with you Zarrix about the fielding, which is what made Zimbabwe competitive in the 90's.

9/155 xD and iirc, Bangladesh restricted Australia to some fairly mild totals in Australia too, but obviously were abysmal with their batting. I think bowling first they restricted the Aussies to 6/240 odd and 5/198.

19 Oct 2008, 09:41
New Zealand are bad, but I wonder if the cleanout of Bangladesh forced by the defection of players to the ICL has actually been a good thing. Maybe they've got rid of some 38 year olds who were highly regarded in Bangladesh so some promising younger players have got a chance.

Cotchin 9

If you discount their matches against Zimbabwe (still only 1 win from 9 tests), Bangladesh have played 45 tests for 2 draws and 43 losses.

They are now 1 for 34, with a lead of 108. If they can put on another 200-250, you would think they could have their best ever result here.

I hope like hell Bangladesh get up here, its is still worrying their lack of batting abiltiy.

Its seems a certain ex SA (south australian) influence is having an influence over there.

They are slowly buildin a bowling line-up that I think is fairly impressive and will challenge most nations on its day.

Its just the batting seems to be going backwards. I don;t know if its not enogh exposure at the top level or most likely losing a heap of your most senior players isn't going to help.

Aritro
20 Oct 2008, 13:56
Apparently the pitch has flattened out completely and lost what little pace it had on day 1 and 2. The ball is coming onto the bat so slowly that the batsmen have plenty of time to check their shots and counter the little turn bit of turn that's on offer.

We might have a battle on our hands to defend this total in the NZ innings. Terrible news. Reminds me of the Multan test when we had Pakistan on the ropes, only for the pitch to flatten out during the 4th innings.

after seeing the tail wag, it figures that the pitch has died a bit. Hopefully there has been some foot holes produced from the extended bowling of the kiwis which can be taken advantage of.

apparently vettori's stats in the last 25 tests:

has to be the best number 8 going around.
