ANDREW Lovett has embraced Essendon and is determined to make his time at the AFL club successful after he could not be traded, according to his manager.

The speedy winger's disciplinary problems in 2008 prompted the Bombers to seek a trade for the 25-year-old, but despite Geelong's interest, a deal could not be reached before Friday's deadline.

Lovett's manager Alex McDonald said his client had realised he needed to change to make a success of himself.

"He's embraced Essendon and he understands that's going to be his workplace," McDonald said.

"So he knows he needs to put his head down, get a lot fitter and play some good footy next year.

"It's a hard one, because he understood why Essendon wanted to trade him and encouraged him to look at other options.

"But it hasn't worked out, so he needs to make a success of it now."

To be honest that is exactly what I was hoping for. Lovett to remain at the club and recieve a good kick in the @$$ and the message to pull his head in. Hopefully he turns things around for the better from here.:thumbsu:

Sounds good. Would've rather heard it from the man himself.

He would have made a statement but he was too hungover :D:D

Not overly convincing, but still good nonetheless to hear that Lovett really knows that he's lucky to still be at the club and that for him to be at our club for his entire career, he really needs to sharpen up quickly.

Lets hope so.

Personally I've lost patience with him. Has had chances, but has gone back to his old tricks. Hopefully he's sorted out his personal life and ready to get on with his footy, because at his best he is easily one of the most exciting players I've ever seen.

I'll sit back and watch.

If he gets the off-field right, the on-field Andrew Lovett should only get better.

But he's one more incident (drink, bash, nightclub, missed training) from fairly being labeled a recidivist.

Let's see if he really puts his head down now, because he has a lot of work to do if he is to convince the club that he is serious about playing football.

Dictionary please?

He'll be right. He is not that wayward compared to some. I am sure he can turn it around.

recidivist (plural recidivists) See: Brendan Fevola, Ben Cousins

1. A repeat offender.
2. One who falls back into prior habits, especially criminal habits.

I feel the need to use the word every now and then, it's a great word! :p

It is a good word. If i remember it I will try to work it into a conversation tomorrow, in the appropriate context of course. :thumbsu:

Good to hear that this whole trade week saga has given him a bit of a kick up the backside as he obviously needed one. I can only hope that he is true to his word and uses this as motivation to destroy the competiton next season!!

Im a huge Lovett fan, hope he can turn it all around (as it happens i was also a cupido fan). But lovett has all the goods, he genuinely has the goods and i hope he turns into the superstar that he is most certainly capable of becoming. The guy is also only 25 and has time to develop other sides to his game. Im hoping this is exactly what he needs

Put it into context, weren't last years' two indiscretions just missed training sessions, although alcohol related?

Not as if he crashed a car while over the limit or took a joy ride with a murderer.

The best thing about him is he dominates at the G usually against Carl and Coll, so I'm delighted he's still on the list.

That's exactly what I thought when I read the article the other day! ;)

That in itself is a concern for me.
