View Full Version : Pakistan vs Australia - 2nd test
SeinDude

The second test between Pakistan and Australia starts today in Shahjah. With Australia winning the first test, this match should be a good test for Australia without Jason Gillespie, up against Shoaib Akhtar and a fired up Pakistani side looking to square the series.
Now after predicting Steve Waugh to get a hundred in the first test and getting nowhere near it, I've decided to stick with the Aussie captain in this game and back him in to score a century!
Cheers!!

I must admit I'm not that optimistic about this test. The pitch should be a turner and the aussie batsmen's record against spin isn't that good. Hayden and Mark Waugh play the spinners very well but the others struggle on turning pitches.
With Dizzy out I think they will play Hauritz. Hopefully he can get 4 or 5 wickets for the test and Warney can get a bag again. Then we will have a good chance of winning.Pakistan may play 3 spinners, Waqar and Aktar.
The match starts 3:30pm ACT.

Hauritz is an interesting one. I saw him a fair bit in the domestic one-dayers with deceptive flight and accuracy in the closing overs.
However, I'm not convinced that he'll work wonders in Test level yet as being tight and accurate doesn't automatically mean he'll grab Test wickets.

I agree with you on the Hauritz issue. As I said " Hopefully can take some wickets."
I don't see the point in playing Williams or Bichel in Sharjah on a flat, turning wicket.
great start for Australia.
Andy Bichel is in the team.
6th ball of the 1st over, Imran Nazir edges a nothing ball and Warne takes it comfortably off Glenn McGrath.
Pakistan 1/0.
and just as i went back downstairs to watch some more Brett Lee gets an inside edge that ends up hitting leg stump.
Pakistan 2/1.
unbelivable start now.
that was Taufeeq Umar who Brett Lee bowled.
Younis Khan and Abdur Razzaq are now in.
THe wicket is flat as a tack which makes the Paki start even worse. Crowd is virtually nothing - the must be more cameramen then crowd members there, which is very unfortunate for test cricket, but you couldn't expect much more when playing on neutral ground i guess.
31 degrees and expected to reach 39, so Australia will want to claim as many early wickets as they can before fatigue sets in.

Brett Lee has top scored for the Pakis so far. score is 2/3 and he's bowled 2 no-balls :D
Onya Bing. That's very Aussie.
more wickets!!!!!!!!
this time Andy Bichel swallows an edge in gully from Younis Khan off Glenn McGrath. Both batsmen have had plenty of plays and misses so far and this was only a matter of time.
Pakistan 3/8 in the 7th over.
Australia playing very attcking. 3 slips and 3 gullys for both Lee and McGrath as you would expect with the opposition in this much trouble.
Temperature is now 33 degrees and humidity is 70 per cent.

keep us posted, the baggygreen site isn't opening :(
drinks now very early cause of the heat.
3/21 of 10 overs. Bichel brought on early and has boweld two overs now. went for 6 in his first over plus four byes as well which should've been wides.
In his second over though had an edge nearly hit the stumps.
Plenty of edges and plays and misses so far. Australia right on top on a wicket which really should be seeing the Pakis gain the early adcendency.
Warne brought on in the 11th over. Expect plenty of overs from him today. McGrath gone off the field, not sure why.
great start. went for 2 runs. but 3rd ball had Razzaq plum lbw - would've crashed into middle and leg but was given not out somehow  and fourth ball pithced 6 inches outside leg and gilchrist took it 6 inches outside off.
Mark Waugh takes an edge off MIsbah-ul-Hug from Andy Bichel.
Pakis in dissaray at 4/23 after 11.1 overs.
Slips fielding has been awesome so far.
those having troubles with baggygreen.com (what is it with that site?) should try thescore.com.au
3/23 after 11

hes long gone - caught off bichel
score is now 4/43 of 20 overs. Bowlers completely dominating the batsmen at the moment. Still plenty of plays and misses and edges all over the shop.
Pakistan just have to see through to lunch. THe first sessoin is going for 150 minutes today and lunch is going for an hours because the Pakis have to have the prayer time or something or other, im not really sure. And the second session is only 90 minutes.
So far though, a great start for Australia. Really couldn't have been better.
is that serious? i have no problem if thats why its an extended lunch (for the pakis to pray etc) but i dont think ive heard of it happening before. anyone know why they dont do it when in oz etc?

Pakistan are now 5 for 41.

SeinDude
greats stuff Warney.
Faisal Iqbal pplum lbw.
Rashid Latif played a very unusual shot for 1, Pakistan now 5/42.
The reason for the prayer is because its in the UAE - its more for the crowd i think, not the players cause its not done when they play in Pakistan.
this is unbelivable.
Waryne bowls a long hop Razzaq tries to hit out of the ground, doesn't control it at all and Martyn takes a good but comfortable catch at short cover. **** shot.
Pakistan 6/46.

it was a second ball duck.
this is one of the worst batting displays in test cricket for a long time. Australia haven't bowled great. They've bowled well and its a flat deck which anything under 300 would be considered ordinary in the 1st innings and they've capitulated.

Pakistan are 7 for 46... a disgraceful batting performance for a test playing nation on that pitch.

SeinDude
7/47 now - hardly scored a run for 5 overs.
Quickies are bowling in one over spells with Warne coming in from the other end.
Shoiab looks like a fish out of water against Warney. Completely misread a wrong'un last over which nearly boweld him.
Wouldn't suprise me either if the Aussies bat for 2 days and notch up 600-odd. Now that would be completely unfair.

this wicket has 300 runs in at least and Australia are bowling well, but nothing unbelievable. Its just crap batting.
Shoiab can't last another over to Warnie. Who saw that last ball to him??? not even the big Sach could've done a thing with that one.
btw, we're going to have to drop the W from Warnie and call him Arnie with his new biceps :D:D
Shoiab has just edged one of Bichel. 8/49. Gilchrist an easy catch.
This is the worst batting display in a LONG time from a test team.

There's nothing wrong with the pitch... Pakistan's batting display has been absolutely pathetic!! They refuse to push for singles to break up the line of the bowlers and rotate the strike, therefore the scoreboard doesn't tick over putting pressure on the batsman.
Another one goes down...
Pakistan are now 8 for 49.
Cheers!!

Waqar Younis lbw Warne
9/50.
initial thought was it jammed between bat and pad, but if it didn't hit the bat then it was definetaly hitting middle stump and plum.
Pakistan's lowest ever score is 62, so it odds on to be a new record
teams have gone for lunch now.
Overall - one of the worst batting displays ever in test cricket. It was a wicket which really should've seen a minimum of 300 runs for the 1st innings.
Australia would've been reasonably content if Pakistan were 2/80 at the first lunch break, but as you can see, that's been completely obliterated.
Warne has taken 4. Bichel 2, McGrath 2, and Lee 1. Fielding has been superb.
Razzaq top scorer on 21 with no one else making double figures yet (and it would be very unlikely at this point to see that happening). Can't remember all the scores, but i know that Imran Nazir, Taufeeq, Saqlain Mushtaq and Waqar Youngis were the four batsmen to make ducks.
Rashid Latif is the not out batsmen and looks very uncomfortable with the heat.
I love Jeff Thomson's commentary:
Raamez Raja : "Well Pakistan have bought up there 50 runs, but they've lost 8 wicekts on the way."
Tommo: "Yes, and thats the problem."
well thanks Tommo, i didn't realize they were in any sought of trouble :D:D

I have one thing to say.
Pakistan are sh*t.
Give Gilly a bowl after lunch, I reckon.
didn't take australia long to rap it up.
Pakistan all out for 59 of 31.5, there lowest test score ever.
Brett Lee bowling Danish Kaneria for 8 the final wicket.
Wouldn't surpsie if Australia bats for 2 days now.
Aus 49/0 in 11.2. Langer 34 Hayden 15. Too easy.

I only saw the hour to lunch on TV but that was more then enough for anyone to see where this match was headed.
There is no way that the Pakistani all-rounder Razzaq should be batting in the Top 6, he is simply not a good enough batsman. At best he should be batting at 7. Unlike most of the batsmen he was in for a while and he played at far too many deliveries that he didn't have to play at, a technique far more suited to one-day cricket then Test level. Dismissal was a shocker too.
As for Saqlain, his dismissal to Warne was incredibly predictable. I've seen him two or three times before get out to Warne by pushing his pad so far down the pitch and tucking his bat behind it, that he thinks he'll be exempt from being given LBW. He isn't.
An appalling performance from Pakistan (so much for Steve Waugh's comments before the game that Pakistan should play better here), Shane Warne once again continues his dominance over Pakistan.
Pakistan are a rabble, which they have pretty much been since Imran Khan retired.

He's one of those allrounders that you wonder what he is better at - and whether he could hold his place in the side as either a batsman or a bowler.

Pakistan have done the impossible - they have produced a Test batting performance that Bangladesh would've been embarassed by.
No matter what spin you put on it, this sort of match does nothing for Test cricket. Non-existant crowd, non-existant contest, and arguably one side who 'tanked' the match.
What a disappointment after the First Test.

Warne, 8 out of a possible 19 wickets. On a batting pitch, a pitch expecting to give a minimum 300 runs, that is impressive.
