View Full Version : Not looking good for the Waugh twins

35.3 Saqlain Mushtaq to ME Waugh, OUT: Given! ball darted spinning a lot and hit the pad first then the bat, ump Bucknor nods him away

35.4 Saqlain Mushtaq to SR Waugh, OUT: a bat and pad appeal and upheld by ump Bucknor and Steve Waugh not happy as he has to walk back after Imran farhat picked it up at silly mid off

Martyn denied Mushtaq his hat-trick.

Australia now 4/152 and looking a little bit more stable, after yet another middle order collapse

Unfortunately this test series has thrown our middle order batting into disarray, not what we wanted with the impending Ashes series.
Both Waughs need runs badly if they get a chance in the second Innings.
Do we play Boof Lehmann in the third test or stick with our current line up?

I'll be surprised if we have a second innings - and disappointed if it gets as far as the Waugh's having to bat.

I think it's clear to everyone now after the One Day axings that once dropped there is no coming back for Mark or Steve. I think they will both play the third Test.

Will the 3rd test be their last? A la Ian Healy not being allowed to play their final test match in Australia?

Yes, theyre both past it for sure :(

its unfortunate as well but they're going to have to be told theyre not going to be picked and that they'll either be dropped or they can retire on "their own terms"

even though Steve wasn't out, but he's still way out of touch and its sad to see two champions going out like this.

Steve Waugh will stay for a few more tests yet, but Mark definetly has to go.

No doubt Simon Katich will make the Australian team, now that he plays for NSW and all

Only an idiot (and I suspect Trevor Hohns, Andrew Hilditch, Allan Border and David Boon fall into this cateogory) would believe they deserve a Test sport ahead of Darren Lehmann.

Noticed that he was having a good ol ciggy during the telecast!

Shame on him!! ;)

Boof must come in for Mark Waugh in the 3rd test & ashes series. Mark's confidence is shot - when can you last recall him dropping 2 catches in the one innings? He is only still in the team now because his brother is captain. Reckon Steve will be allowed to play on through the ashes, then retire.

From one source I have heard that apparently they are happy to keep playing until they are told to go.

Another source has said they want to make it to the 5th test v England and go then!

Who Knows.

I think Mark will get the chop before Steve given Steve is the captain. I wouldn't be surprised if Lehmann gets a game next test.

Steve will retain his spot as captain (a la taylor) but Mark is in real trouble. If he is lucky as hell, he will get one more shot in the 3rd test.

I realise you don't have to be an ACB contracted player to win a green baggy, but Simon Katich wasn't offered a contract this season. He has certainly slipped back in the ACB's eyes. Not so long ago he was heir apparent to any test vacancy.
I hope he finds form very soon.

Brett Li,

As a supporter of the England cricket team, you'd certainly have experience seeing batsman who are "crap" play for the Poms!! :D

Mark Waugh did make 55 in the first test.

Cheers!!

Do either of there performances come under any scrutiny though considering the Aussies completely dominating?

Does Steven Waugh have something to with there domination? He is a very good captain.

Tugga recieved a shocking bat-pad decision and shouldn't be grilled for that too much.

I say that the Ashes will be his last series.
One more series for a fantastic captain and cricketer.

The Waugh twins are in terrible form, but as long as the side is winning, I would just leave them be. It would be a different scenario if we were losing test matches on the back of some terrible batting collapses (in which the Waugh twins would need to stand up and make the runs) but everyone else is doing their job and Steve is one of our greatest captains. Just leave them for the time being.

Well that rules out Tuffers then!! :D

Is Robert Croft coming out this summer because if he is, Mark Waugh will play another couple of test series after the Ashes as Crofty's straight off-spinners are enough to bring even the most out of form batsman back into top form!! :D

Cheers!!
