sorry, but what a joke -
Pakistan implode again
From correspondents in Sharjah
October 12, 2002
AUSTRALIA have bowled out Pakistan for 59 and 53 to score one of the most lop-sided wins in Test history.
Australia's winning margin in the second Test in Sharjah was an innings and 198 runs after Pakistan, in their 50th anniversary series, produced their two worst scores in Tests.
Pakistan's abysmal performance is one of the worst in Test history.
Only three other teams have recorded a lower match tally than the 112 Pakistan scrounged together and no team has been as bad for more than 50 years.
The match was over an hour short of two days.

I was working last night - cannot believe this news! What a tragic performance by the Pakis.
It is worrying that teams like Pakistan and the West Indies seem to be going backwards. For the game to grow and prosper there needs to be more fierce competition, at the moment the Aussies are thrashing most of the teams they play.
Pakistan need to get their house in order. End the internal bickering, bribery, and constant sackings and start bringing some stability back to their cricketing approach. Im not holding my breath though.

That is being very unfair to Pakistan, comparing them to carlton.

As usual the media have totally ignored a brilliant bowling performance by the Aussies, and one of the gutiest centuries I've seen by Matthew Hayden.
Instead all the focus is on the dismal batting of the Pakis and the usual anti-Waugh diatribe from journos keen to get rid of him.
Personally I couldn't give a stuff if Pakistan and the West Indies are having problems getting their best 11 on the park. People seem to forget what it was like when the Aussies were a complete rabble themselves back in the 80's - hell we couldn't even beat England!
I say let's bury these teams while we have the side to do it - everyone said the Windies would be unbeatable and have a look at them now. In 10 years time we will look back in awe at the current Australian team.

GOALden Hawk,
Did you see some of the terrible shots played by the Pakistani batsman... why I haven't seen shots like that since bowling to my brother in our backyard!! :D
Cheers!!

I'm sorry, but what is the connection with this and AFL? Ohhhh, a cheap excuse to bag out Carlton? Go right ahead.

I'm with Seindude ... some of the shots by the Paki's, particularly in the first dig, were abysmal. I reckon a combined BigFooty lineup would have got an outright against them this time around. The Aussies have bowled far, far better than they did yesterday and the day before with less success ...
As for the one-sidedness of it all. What do you expect? We have huge amounts of money pumped into developing our national squad, and a better-than-solid infrastructure in place to complement all of this dough.
Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Bangladesh and others are third world countries, and only the very upper echelon in their societies have access to the necessary resources to become cricketers. The West Indies simply no longer care ... Unfortunately they will never again be the force that we remember from the 70's and 80's - there's just no money in the coffers.
Maybe international cricket needs some sort of equalisation fund. I know the bigger, traditional footy clubs are critical of it in the AFL, but we don't want a Premier League situation to establish itself in cricket, whereby Australia and South Africa become the Man U, Arsenal and Liverpools of the game and win EVERYTHING EVERY YEAR ....

I wouldn't be getting too carried away just yet...Yeah agree it was a great performance by the Aussies but the Pakistanis were blooding a lot of youngsters which is good for their future but if you look at the Australian side we've probably got the oldest playing list with Brett Lee being the youngest at 25. If you look at the Indians & Pakis they've got some of the best young classy talent coming up.
I think the Australian selectors should also look at the future
& start playing some youngsters & I mean youngsters not 30YR old men & should consider this victory as merely a good day out on the field

I'm not sure how serious you are. But surely you realise that the ICC doesn't have the same power over its member nations that the AFL has over its 16 clubs and it never will.

I don't think that Pakistan are the Carlton of the Cricket World, but more the fact that Australia are the Brisbane of cricket!

I think it's a bit harsh calling Pakistan the Carlton of cricket.... I mean the closest thing Carlton has to someone as quick as Shoaib Akhtar is when Lance Whitnall is told there is only one chicken drumstick left and it's first in gets it!! :D

Yes they seem to - but this has happens a lot and how many of them go on to really establish themselves. So many of their players debut when very young and then often fade out of the scene.
Faisal Iqbal is 20 and was making a return to the test team.
Having said that Australia often plucked out a prospective young player of the future and gave him a spot in the team and this usually proved a god long term decision eg Walters and Ponting - but of course in past days players often retired at around 30- 32 - now some of them are either starting their careers or are establishing their spot in the team at this age.

Bit hard to judge Pakistan without Wasim Akram. They probably would have won the 1st test if he played.

Every year? How about Blackburn Rovers coming up from Div 1 to win the championship a few years ago, last year they won the league cup. Chelsea won an UEFA a few years ago, Middlesbrough are currently sitting 3rd only 2 games off top. The FA Pyramid system is the best for any sport in the world. Any club in the entire country can build itself up, work its way up the levels and hold the dream of one day playing league football and possibly in the Premier League no matter how small they are. Just look at a club like Wimbledon, who though they are a shambles now, built their way up to the highest level, numerous other clubs have over the years aswell.
Not so long ago Fulham were sitting in the old 4th division, they are now 6th in the Premier League. Rushden & Diamonds have built themselves from the non-league comps to a team currently attempting promotion to the 2nd division (watch out for this team in the big comps in the next 10 years).
