Yeah, I loved most of the characters the most at one time or another. But overall, I had to give it to David. I liked Claire a fair bit as well.

Brenda was a tricky one. Shes the hardest character I've ever watched in any tv show.

I loved her wit...but I could never get over what she did to Nate. In saying that though, I enjoyed her character in Season 5.

I was very upset with her treatment of Nate but i was even more upset with his treatment of her. He completely shut down on her and hooked up with that maggie girl.

Maggie was a character i was just furious with. She knew what she was doing from day one.

oh I agree. Nate drove me insane in the last season. As did Maggie. Maggie was extremely annoying.

The final episode was the best season finale I've ever ever seen.

I felt really sad when the show ended. Such a sense of loss. It was like my favourite relatives had all died or moved overseas. Best ending of any show I've ever seen. I am re-watching the show from the beginning and finding that I am seeing each character in a new light than I did at the end. I found Claire to be fairly selfish and annoying from the beginning, but now I seem to think of her a lot(I would like a new show based on what she is doing now?).
Also loved the music. I am trying to buy a cd of each artist featured on both soundtracks. Very rewarding.

Hey sisterka

Do you happen to know the name of the nirvana song nate was listening to when kirk cobain died? Claire also listened to it at the end of the episode nate died in. (honestly i'm almost tearing up now just thinking about it)

Hi Stimpy,
I had a look on the HBO SFU site and found this info for you.
From Ep 61 Season 5 "All Alone"
-Claire remembers talking to Nate the day Kurt Cobain died*All Apologies(In Utero Version)*Nirvana.
As i recall this is where Claire was perhaps first initiated in drug taking by Nate?
-End Credits*All Apologies(MTV Unplugged Version)*Nirvana.
I hope this helps. cheers

Probably my favourite show ever.. definately up there along with Sopranos & Deadwood... the finale was exceptional & those last few episodes were an emotional ride.. its the only time i have ever felt like i was actually mourning the demise of TV characters but i guess thats reflective of how well we get to know them during the series.

Favourite characters were probably Keith & Nate even though both were annoying at times... i think u got to see the best & worst of all the characters along the way..

Great show & just as good the 2nd time around.. almost due to watch it again i think :)

David owned all and Claire was a brilliant character. It was one of the most amazing shows on television, right up there with The Sopranos, Oz and The Wire when it comes to pure drama.

Unfortunately nothing will come close to replacing it.

I have the first 3 seasons of this on DVD but have not got round to watching them. I purchased the first 3 season of the West Wing and season 5 and 6 of the Sopranos at the same time and enjoyed that more.

Hopefully over the summer break i will find the time to watch 6 feet under.

Bump. :)

Just watched the entire series again since it was aired on FTA and I'm happy to report this show is STILL ****ing awesome. And the last scene still had me in tears. :o

Just wanted to ask if anyone knew the song that is played right at the end when Claire drives away to NYC? And who is it by???

Yep, great show and brilliant finale.

Claire and Nate my favourite characters... the scene where Nate primal screams in Lisa's hand dug desert grave has stuck with me for a long time.

Just wanted to ask if anyone knew the song that is played right at the end when Claire drives away to NYC? And who is it by???

The song you want is Breathe Me by Sia. Here is the official version.

Here is the extended version used in the finale.

Warning this video contains spoilers so don't watch if you haven't seen the show's ending.

I'm bumping this thread because I've just finished watching the last episode of the series. Amazing finish to an amazing show. I was hooked from the very first episode and couldn't stop watching it. I didn't like the 3rd and 4th seasons as much as they seemed to drop a lot of the humour and quirkiness that made it so likeable. But even as a straight up drama it's brilliant. I'd heard a lot about the finale and I was very impressed. I can't think of any better ending to a TV series.

I stopped watching half way through the final season, just got too gut wrenching. The way they build the characters up for so long and then just rip them apart in front of you was too much. Nate's decline from carefree rock to a shell of a man throughout the series was brilliant but very hard to watch.

to use this show's language (words that nate, david, claire, rico, brenda used quite often) ->

what a mutha-****ing great show!

after the show finished it felt like there was not going to be a show that was going to ever replace it.

ironically for a show that was set in a funeral parlor, is was a show that came so very close to explaining to us 'what is the meaning of life'

its not an easy show to like, a lot of people get put off by what they see when they first watch it. the characters are all pretty unlikeable because it is SO realistic

this scene is a highlight from my time watching the show: *strong language alert* ->

A side note... if you liked 6 Feet Under, you may like another show called "Dead Like Me". While it defintely is very different to 6FU, it has similar themes I guess... dealing with death, loss... etc etc. Anyway I'm watching the whole series atm for about the 4th time and am still loving it. Highly recommend it. :thumbsu:

the thing is six feet under is realistic, which is why i fail to enjoy ANY show as much since then

the only one story arc that wasnt realistic was when david got beaten up, had a gun stuck in his mouth and had gasoline poured on him by a hitch hiker in season 4

if you got the dvd of season 4, the following death in the next episode has a guy's brain splattered all over the wall when he is robbed at gunpoint. weak

Good point. Throughout the series I found myself not liking a lot of things about pretty much every character and especially Ruth, who I don't really like at all. But that was because we got to see the worst of all the characters during the worst times in their lives. I thought Bettina and Nathaniel were very likeable though. Nathaniel especially, I thought was awesome.

DLM is from the perspective of the reapers.. taking the souls from the living before they die, lol. So yeah is a bit more of a comedy than Six Feet Under. Still is a top show.. the scripts and characters cast are brilliant. Was only made for two seasons unfortunately.

FINALLY finished off the 5 seasons on DVD after watching on and off for 12 months (time issues).

All I can say is that this was easily the best drama I have ever watched. The storylines were great, the acting fantastic and the characters so lifelike.

Ruth pissed me off to the end, but loved the David/Keith story line especially towards the end.

The end was incredibly sad, just puts life into so much perspective.. :(:(

Ok, just finished watching the finals season. Wonderful show.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything everyone has said about the show. I didn’t hate Ruth in the end, I certainly felt sorry for her getting put into that position and she annoyed the hell out of me but without her and her quirky friends (loved Kathy Bates cameo parts)

Best character -David Fisher by a mile. Wonderful actor and believed every word he said for the entire 5 season. Hope Michael C Hall has a very speedy recovery from Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Most disliked character: Nate Fisher – not his acting, just the way they wrote his part. They made him out to be a self arse. Loved Brenda and Billy and didn’t see the demise of his character coming and was a real shock. Also hated Lisa as I wanted Nate to end up with Brenda.

Hope that was ambiguous enough so not to be a spoiler.

BTW -at the beginning of each episode when they revealed who died, did anyone else work out how old that person was?

It took me about 4 or 5 episodes of season one to work out what that was, than after that, made a point of working out the age of the person who died.

That's one of the great things about the show, how they made Nate out to be so human. They could have done the traditional protagonist path where he's a really great guy but they didn't. He starts off really cool and they totally deconstruct and dismantle him to show he's normal, moody and a bit of a **** like the rest of us. Nate is a wanker, but then if I'd watch a show about myself I'd think I was a bit of a wanker too.

I agree with you that is was good that they made him out to be human but the thing is, in the beginning he wasn’t a great guy. He was also a selfish arsehole.

He was only coming back for the Christmas break and then his dad died so he stayed; he wasn’t staying at Fisher and son as an undertaker if his dad didn’t die and from my perspective, he hadn’t been back in a while.

So from the very beginning he had that moody selfish attitude that everything was about him and that’s how it ended, everything about him. They kept his character consistent but changed parts to make him likeable to some and an arse to others.

I really liked Nate for his mood swings, he was generally very likeable but if he got pissed off he would swear like a trooper and erupt. When he gets high in the first season and bugs out it's a classic.

David/Michael C Hall was the standout for mine though, he played the uptight gay man to perfection and episodes like the carjacking he was superb.

I bought Season 1 of Dexter without ever watching it cos it sounded good but mostly because I knew he would definitely do the role justice.

My sister is just starting to watch this (she'd already seen season 1) so I'm re-watching it. Funny hwo you forget things, Season 3 Ep 1 blew my socks off how good it was...the 2nd time around even!

One of the funniest moments of the series.

My favourite character was Nathaniel, easily, followed by Billy. But if forced to narrow it down to main characters I'd have to say Nate. The writing is so real that its hard to really like everything about one character. We see them do and say stupid things and see the worst of them, which is why its so good.

For me Billy was great. Over the seasons you never knew which version of him you would get. I detested him one week and loved him the next.

What I got out of the whole thing was I will never be gutted, tarted up and stuffed full of chemicals to slowly rot in the ground. Put a match to me and scatter the ashes.
