Des Headland - stated that 'he gave the Club 4 years of dedicated service', I would disagree with that.
Des committed to his last year here to obtain a Premiership Medal and to lift his earning power.
Not once, I believe, did Des Headland wear the jumper with pride or passion, he used 2002 with the Lions as a business opportunity.
May the next Club that Des deems to be worthy of his services, take joy in his passionless approach to the game, Club and jumper.
I just wonder what false words he said to his team mates Grand Final night, because he definately said them to us, the supporter.
I congratulate Des on the birth of his new son and wish his family the best.

Come on, this reeks of bitterness...
He is overrated anyway but I don't know about passionless...

im still waiting for DES to say it.. i havent seen him do anything to say that he does want to go home & the only family that he was there is his Grandma & chantelle's family his side of the family have relocated here and love it here...
i dont agree with the bit about him never wearing the jumper with pride or passion... he has how hard has he fought in the reserve grade to get to play in the seniors... let alone in a permiership side... how disappointed was he last year when he missed out....
i agree that we can all have our own opinions and that may have been how you see it.. i just dont agree with it....
P.S how's the family?

even though i have now heard him say he is wanting to leave....& heard him say that he wanted to go home halfway throough the season i still believe that he did his best in his time @ the club... thanks des....
I think Des did his best under the conditions. Thing is they were conditions he imposed upon himself. I don't believe his heart was every really here, and I also think his family is really a case of 'babies having babies', and with that sort of personal life pressure, he was never really going to be in a position to open himself up to the possibility of gaining the sort of passion and committment to our club that alot of our other players have.

You are quite right....I don't know... when I see how our boys, Voss, Black, Akermanis, Leppitsch...and who know who else, take a pay cut to try and keep him in the team, I just felt that he has thrown their best intentions back in their face.
When you see Black go through the drafting system and relocate to Brisbane as Headland, you truly appreciate the loyalty and committment from a class player like Black.

Win some, lose some. That's football and life.
Good luck to him at the Dockers or Eagles (or the Blues or Subiaco!).

that is what makes me disapointed in the whole thing ~ i dont believe he's passionless but he dosnt have the same passion than Vossy, Blacky, Akers, Leppa, Lynchy, Browny etc. ~ not for brisbane anyrate
he does not want to stay so brisbane should just let him go & see what they can get for him - either a judd (midfelider for a midfielder) or a croad (unfortunatly lynchy cant go on forever :( )
If Des hasn't committed himself to Brisbane, then we don't need him - we have plenty of committed and loyal players who want the best for a club that has given them its best.
Des had a good season in 2002, wanting to push himself up in the money stakes - hope he gets want he wants and deserves - a Victorian club that is as uncommitted to him as he is to them. Hopefully they will look after him as well as Brisbane did - so he can go on to Perth in 2004 and demand an even higher price for his services.
Sour grapes, you say???? You'd better believe it!
p.s.: We, the fans of the Brisbane Lions, were willing to give our all for Des, and he has let us down ... lied to us at the after match gathering and thrown it back in our faces ... very sad :( :( :(
what a mummys boy, homesick my eye more like told he was going home . dont see lynchy carrying on and he came from tassie
if he doesnt want to be a lion then lets get what we can and be done with it !! this is not a place for sooks or babies it is a very very highly paid buissness and the quicker some of these guys learn that the better
$1m over 3 years?
He has got to be dreaming.
I wondered last night if I was being a bit harsh on him. And then I read what sort of money he was seeking in today's paper.
Had he stayed in Brisbane another year or 2 and performed as consistantly as he did this year, then yeah maybe he would be worth that much.
But right now? One good season, one premiership medallion, and the want to pick and chose where he plays, does not a millionaire make in a 3 year period.
I wonder what sort of player we could get for that sort of money?
Danni - I agree with you.
Why didn't he just say to the club that he would stay for another year (say) if they would then on-trade him to a Perth based club - would have been a solution (albeit unsatisfactory) that could have put him in better stead with the Brisbane Lions hierarchy and members - instead he demands money he's not yet worth and to h*ll with anyone else.

Oh, is that the going price for homesickness?
....and he will go to whoever comes up with the money first, no preference?
You just have to wonder if he will stay with the first Club, after 3 years, if the other Club comes up with more money later on.
I'd like to see him go to someone like the Tigers. He could really learn a lot at that place.
I think there's a lot to be learnt from a St Kilda experience. Learning about what having a good coach and support staff means.

Petulance, petulance.
Good riddance BJ ( Buckley Junior ).

Injury-hit Des Headland quits AFL (http://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/injury-hit-des-headland-quits-afl/story-e6frg1wu-1225925214334)

Headland said, without doubt, the highlight of his career was winning the 2002 Premiership with the Lions. “It’s something I can sit back about and think about more often, now that I’m retired,” he said.
“It was a very proud moment of my life and something that I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.”

Number 1 Draft Picks (http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/105150/default.aspx)
At his best, Des Headland had the ability to light up the game with his dash and long, penetrative kicking. However while the former Brisbane Lion and now-retired Fremantle Docker enjoyed a stellar 12-season career that included a premiership with the Lions, he was unable to consistently produce his best - which sees him coming in at No.12 on this list. He had one standout year in Brisbane - 2002 - when he was part of a premiership and finished sixth in the Brownlow medal. However even that year he came a surprisingly-low 10th in the club's best and fairest award.
The following season Headland returned to his home state to play for Fremantle and away from the likes of Voss, Akermains and Black he found life tougher. While still a handy contributor, he was not allowed the freedom he enjoyed roaming across half forward and occasionally through the middle at the Gabba. He played in the middle and later more permanently in attack. He was severely restricted by knee injuries at the tail-end of his career, which limited his pace and kicking ability.
