I remember when he won the E.J Whitten medal,that was a disgrace as Tingay was clearly the best player.However due to Victoria wearing white shorts,Calthorpe was an absolute standout.
How i rejoiced when this prick left Essendon,I hated him when he was with us,now it`s just contempt.His main problem is not knowing his limitations.

Well at last someone is in here to stick up for this guy, some people forget so eaisly. This guy was a great player, and yes he is at the end of his career, but he shouldnt be remembered for what he is doing or not doing now, after all we picked him he didnt pick us.

Great player???? Come off it, he was handy at best. Averaged less than 15 games per year at his previous clubs, and to my knowledge that hasn't been affected by too many injuries.
If he is at the end of his career at age 27, then what does that say about him other than he is simply not up to it.
I know the bagging is pretty cruel, but Daphne you're not exactly polite in your criticisms of James Hird, and at least that bastard can play a bit.
If there were NO alternatives, I would keep Calthorpe. But on the rookie list we have a guy like Mark Hilton who should be fast-tracked as a replacement for Mick Martyn, yet he can't get on the list because of room/salary constraints. Also drop Calthorpe off, freeing a bit of the salary cap, and you have more money to negotiate keeping players that will actually play in the seniors. We don't need a midfielder who is about 10th in line for a spot.
I didn't think much of him as a player at Essendon or Brisbane. I allowed time for him to show something at our club last year before forming an opinion. Unfortunately I haven't the internal fortitude that CIK showed in abstaining from chastising McKernan over the summer.
