Now dont get me wrong here i dont have a problem with people believe in religon/god/allah/budda/the holy grail/britney spears. But i do have a problem when they preach to me about S*** that i dont want to hear. I just had a guy come to my door and ask me questions like do i want to know the 'truth' and all this other stuff about bibles and gods etc.
To add to this after world youth day (or week or whatever) there was a bus full of italians who came into my work (safeway) to not only buy stuff but preach to the workers and customers about GOD!! OMG!! don't these people respect other peoples ideas! just leave me only PLEASE! Now thankfully the guy at the door left when i politely told him i wasn't religious and he thanked me and left (atleast he was nice) the italian people on the other hand WOULDNT god away.
/rant over
Anyone else sick of people knocking on your door? not just religious but like indian gas workers too?

the belief in a deity is a socially acceptable delusion. if these people told you they believed that johnny docker was god, you would have enough evidence to at least have them psychologically tested or committed to a psychiatric institution. the core of their beliefs spawn from a piece of semi-fictitious dribble that was written over 300 years after the fact occurred (new testament). they pick and choose what to take literally from it and have no qualms in pushing their truth on others. they claim to be a tolerant cult accepting of all other belief systems but one of their commandments (number three me thinks?) would contradict that philosophy as the people with contrary belief systems are going to hell (i'll see you there). i personally pretend to be a satanist (the idea of satan was spawned by the church to keep the punters in line. ie. afraid, fearful and thus easily manipulated), as they dont seem to back off if you ask politely. im afraid we are stuck with religious zealots for the rest of our existence, as someone, somewhere will always have an agenda and therefore will find it easy to manipulate the masses with religious and quasi-religious teachings.

That is gold bigkev :D
And what have you done with kiroshi, kiroshi ;)
People who come and knock on my door give me the shits. One time my dog had a red hot go at these jehovas witnesses, had them out the gate in no time. Another time they arrived and trod in dog shit, that kind of put a dampner on their religous zeal and they didn't even bother bothering me.
All in all my dog>>>>>>>God botherers.

Nice words Kiroshi, I wonder if you've applied the same scrutiny to other things in society though?
Anyhow one day I had real estate agents coming around to give me a value on one of my houses and I had no idea what they looked like. So I get a knock at my door, this real hot young girl is there and I'm like.... nice. So I open the door and as I did I saw some older, less hot woman standing just out of sight of the door. So I say hello and gesture for them to come in, thinking they are the real estate people.
They looked at me like "Wow, this guy is nuts" for about 3 seconds and I'm thinking "Why aren't they coming in?" before the older one sort of pushed the young girl out of the way and started talking about god. "Do you think Jesus will come back and save you from your sins".
The moral of the story, religious people understand marketting very well (put the hot girl at the door to make you open it) and they get freaked out when you invite them in after only saying "Hi".

I used to live with my mate over in Bertram and there was a religious school/church near by. Every Saturday without fail they'd be walking around door knocking and speaking about god.
The first few times we tried to be polite and just tell them we weren't interested (Seeing as they all lived throughout the neighbourhood and could make having parties hell for us).
After the third time in as many weeks I had enough and decided that we had to do something. So I put a sign I 'acquired' which said "Church Construction Site" in the window and started proclaiming that we were building a church for Satan when he would finally come to visit us.
Apparently they took it as "Shit, we need to try harder to turn these guys before they goto hell" So they started coming more frequently.
Then my mates brother turns up and they knock at the door one day. He proceeded to get naked scream and make his eyes roll into the back of his head.
They ran, he chased.
To this day, there has been no more 'God Botherers' at the house.:D

This may not be entirely true and would love it if someone could clrify it ifI'm wrong. But I've heard that it's part of the JW beleifs that they are not able to be given donated blood as it is supposed to be some kind of spiritual thing but they are more than happy to recieve other body part donations, in particular then one that I find ammusing is bone marrow, the very souce of the bodies blood.
Again I may have mis heard them when they told me this but I always found that to be extremely wierd.
Oh and that the JW believe that there is noly so many places in heaven (round about the 800,000 mark) yet this number pales in comparison to the number of actual JW throughout the world. So even if you choose that religion, it doesn't automatically mean you get entry to the pearly gates. gain, nto too sure about the details, but have read it somewhere.

Yeah, you're correct on part of that.
They aren't allowed surgery because they can't have a blood transfusion or get anyone elses blood in their system because it makes the soul "Impure".
They also don't believe in Birthdays, Easter, Christmas etc etc. I remember at school whenever we went to sing happy birthday to someone the JW kids had to go outside.

the jw's choose to take a certain line in the bible literally. can quite recall exactly what it is, but to paraphrase it would be similar to what freoazz wrote, it affects the purity of ones soul to accept the blood of another. lucky for us, they dont take other parts of the bible literally; such as being executed for working on the sabbath. even if death was the penalty for working on a sunday, id still risk it being double time and a half plus penalties...

This bloke I went to school with is a mormon, apparently the church takes 15% of your earnings. Good little business that one.

The other dodgy thing is, a religion can setup a business TAX FREE. The original idea was they would be non profit and the proceeds go back to the community. However you now have multimillionaire pentecostal priests living the high life of their tax free wineries.

correct, they also wear "magic" underpants and the young men are generally expected to leave their families for the period of a year at least to bring the "teachings" to the masses.

is your worldview and emotional state more superior than people who believe in a higher power?
you sound like you just as arrogrant as the religious zealots you are complaining about.

now now, show me any provable mistruth in my post and i will digress. i am yet to see an athiest door knocking, oppressing women or starting a war in the name of his belief; thus my apparent arrogance is justified when talking of this nonsense.
thank you sir and have a nice day. :thumbsu::D:thumbsu::D:thumbsu:

John Safran vs God was one of my favouritest shows, Stronz. Religion is a touchy topic at the best of times, but most of the time I thought he managed to poke fun without being entirely disrespectful and dismissive, which would be bloody hard to do. It didn't make it any less funny, it just made me feel less guilty about laughing my head off. Good get :thumbsu:
Yeah I loved that show, but I think it did offend some people, the mormons on youtube didn't seem very impressed with that video :)
What did you make of the exorcism in the last episode?

Haha yep there are definitely exceptions, I did say most of the time. :)
I was going to ask exactly the same thing about the exorcism... I really don't know if he was genuine or not. If he wasn't, I drastically underestimated his acting ability because it looked pretty damn convincing. But it's so hard to believe! What was your take on it?
Mate I believed it, though my explanation is that the "exorcist" was more of a hypnotist. I think Saffran was being legit, just not sure about that exorcist. Should find out his name and read up about him.
It would've been good if they'd given some explanation after that incredible last scene, but the credits came up immediately, leaving you wondering what the hell just happened.
Makes you wonder though, thats for sure

Yeah I just youtubed it to watch it again and damn... that was some weird stuff. You can't act that. I think you're probably on the money with the hypnotist idea, he could probably make anyone do that as long as they went into it with an open mind and acted impulsively. The bloke's name is Bob Larsen by the way.
Very, very odd. I bet Larsen makes a good quid out of it.

I read a bit about this Larsen and it seems he has his own books, radio show, television show etc etc, so yeah he is loaded.
Plenty of impresionable groupies as well I bet.

Hardly, I'm sure you use the logical part of your brain everyday to survive rotto. You switch that part off to believe in your deity of choice. In other words your faith system if applied to the real world would make us weak as a species. Our power over other animals is our logical thinking, if we want to cross the river we may build a boat. A religious person asks god to make them fly and they drown as they make their leap of faith and a rabbit just turns around and gives up.
Now believing in some fairy can produce results thanks to the power of the mind. It gives people hope and a main goal to strive towards in their life. The fact is you can't have a worker bee society of millions of people without some form of religion guiding them. Society today doesn't need a traditional religion anymore thanks to the media and capitalism, but it's still there for the many that fall between the cracks and need more to live for. Whether your strive towards a life in heaven or a life driving a ferrari ultimately you will likely miss out on it and die. In the meantime you grease the wheels of society and I thank you all.

When I lived in Warnbro, I was at home one day and these guys knocked on the door and started preaching. Apparently Mum had been out in the garden and they had started preaching and she had asked them to come back
Anyway this day they came and I answered the door, they asked for my Mum and I told them she wasn't home...so they started on me. Eventually after about 10 minutes, they said they would come back when Mum was home.
A few weeks later they returned, and asked for me (I should've told them a fake name). Thankfully, I looked like a skanky hobo (had just woken up) and they didn't recognise me....:thumbsu::thumbsu:
They came through work a few times though :D

indeed it is, although dawkins' absolutism grates at times. he makes some thouroughly researched, well thought out points. worth a read for the religious and not so religious folk.
