Arguably the Australian record is held by Hugh Trumble who took 26 wickets in 3 Tests of a 5-Test series in 1902, he didn't play in the first two tests.
371 26 14.26 5 H Trumble Australia v England 1902
Yes a great effort from Shane Warne. 24 wickets so far this series, but he will struggle to get the to the 30 barrier and joining an illustrious group of players who have taken 30 wickets in a 3 test series - George Lohmann (35 at 5.80 - England v Australia 1895/96), Richard Hadlee (33 at 12.15 - New Zealand v Australia 1985/86), Harbajan Singh (32 at 17.03 - India v Australia 2000/2001), Muttiah Murilitharan (30 at 9.80 - Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe 2001/2002) and Abdul Qadir (30 at 14.56 - Pakistan v England 1987/88).

It was in no way (intended to be) abusive. Sorry.
Add another Warne wicket.
Now 27, so he's beaten Trumble as well. Still a chance of 30.
McGrath just got the 8th wicket so no chance of Warne joing the 30 wicket club. But still a great series from the master of leg spin.
