I like a ****load of Metal.

If I was to list it all, It'd take me too long.

Although, I am not one of those music listeners that are one-eyed and listen to metal only, I have very eclectic music tastes.

Similar story to ozzult.. my roots are very much in metal but my tastes are pretty eclectic.
To give an idea the current playlist is a mix of Meshuggah, Alice In Chains, Mr. Bungle, Ice Cube, Alchemist, Jamiroquai & G'n'R :D

The can be sooooooooooo cheezy! I wonder sometimes if it's intentional or they are just deluded.

Some good stuff though.

Hmmm I start this thread, then bugger off for 10 days (I'm on hols in Thailand).

Haha I hope Manowar's cheesiness is intentional!

My fav metal bands include Maiden, Megadeth (brilliant in Melb last year!), Opeth, Death, At The Gates, and Australia's own, Dungeon.

Not advertising, but if you like metal you should try www.ultimatemetal.com/forum. Shedloads of metal there. I usually go to the Maiden Downunder and Australia/NZ boards. Up to you though.....

Which Aussie bands do you lot like?

Haggis McHaggis
13 Nov 2002, 06:02
Alchemist
Damaged
Blood Duster
Sakkuth
Misery
Excruciate
Devolved
Choke
Kin
Dreamkillers
Encabulos

Black Majesty (formerly known as Arkaya and Kymera) and Pegazus are the two favourites. Also like Dungeon, Sanityz Cage, Vanishing Point, and Chalice aren't bad for something that's a little different (female vocals, lots of keyboards and some flute!)

First time I've ever bothered to check out this board, as opposed to the main Footy board but like Hell I love Metal... :)

Maiden, Priest, Pantera, White Zombie, Machine Head etc..

Lots of different Metal.. And your not a true Metaller if you've never had long hair.. Long Hair and Metal are synonymous..

Long hair rules!

Dungeon are the best band in Oz, followed by the likes of Vanishing Point (if you like that kind of thing), Earth, Dreadnaught, Abramelin etc. All my opinion only of course!

The Aussie metal scene is great these days (particularly in Melbourne?).

SydneyBomber
15 Nov 2002, 13:34
I haven't seen any local bands for about two years or so (I guess I slipped out of the 'scene' somewhat), but before that I was seeing bands pretty much every weekend for about 10 years. yep - I did start underage. ;)

For mine...
Damaged
Mortality
Sulkus
Abramelin
In:Extremis
Superheist (when they were good a long time ago, not the crap they dish out now)
Deadspawn
and of course the lovely lads from Sad Ex!

Sad to think that 90% of those bands are all kaput now....

BTW, Darky did you see Destruction? How were they? (I couldn't go damnit!)

Yeah I was looking forward to seeing how Chalice came off live at MFTB before they CANNED it!

I saw Destruction in Canberra and I thought they were really good, if you're a fan of old school thrash.
They've been around long enough so they know how to rock. http://www.geocities.com/adrianeagles/headbang.gif

Some of my fave Aussie metal:
Damaged
Pathogen
Abramelin
Frankenbok
Maximum Perversion
Astriaal
Blood Duster
Psycroptic

.

Black Sabbath (with Ozzy) are the premier metal band.

Other loves include Metallica (first IV albums) and Tool (and let me express my complete infatuation with the song Eulogy).

Plenty of liked bands, most of whom are listed here. Usually on the heavier side.

I would like to alter my stance on long hair.

I agree that all true metal heads MUST have had long hair at some stage. So I stand corrected.
I still believe that the best metal today is played by people with shorter hair.

:p

Agreed.

You do not become an expert on metal just because you're rooting an expert metal head. I may as well claim to be an expert on comedy simply becasue I post at the same site as Seindude.

And she will get no support from me on the Ozzy vs Dio debate!

Hahaha is there anyone without a Peter Everitt avatar? Good riddance to him, by the way!

Alarum are a cool band. Anyone seem them play recently? What's their new stuff like? You should all check out Dungeon if you haven't already. Awesome band.

Any overseas bands touring in the foreseeable future?

There are some really good websites around that keep me up to date with the latest tour & new release
info.

The Official Screaming Symphony Site (http://home.connexus.net.au/~manicman/ ) is the best by a mile, and Beat Magazine (www.beat.com.au ) is also very good.

I don't reckon they'd have a gig guide for Bandung, Indonesia though.

Winmar
18 Nov 2002, 19:23
Haha I think I'd struggle to get a gig guide for Bandung! :)

Ah yes, I've gotta check out the Screaming Symphony site again. Good ol' Gary and Peter.
