Saw This Article (http://abc.net.au/news/australia/wa/metwa-23oct2002-11.htm) and wanted all your thoughts on it.
Seems odd, but just won't go away.
So what do you reckon, eagle fanboys/girls?

Earlier in the year the same thing came up, but the police said the tapes did not contain any drug ordering but merely a conversation.
That guy that made the accusations said it was "code" talk  I wonder if he wears aluminium foil hats to keep the mind control waves out?

I have no issues with what players do in their own time. If they take recreational drugs that aren't performance enhancing, that is either their business (or police business) - not the general public's business.
It won't go away, until it comes out in the open.
But it's nobody elses fault except the two players who were involved. Personally I've got no doubt in my mind that the two players who were alledgedly in on it, have taken HARD recreational drugs in the past during the off-season.

Read that last night - the article in the West makes it a bit clearer.
As I understand it - Rick Lewis has heard drug rumours about the Eagles, so he rings an earthmoving contractor called David Waters for info. As you do. Waters says he was told by "a Western Australian drug squad officer" that the coppers had taped a phone conversation in which an Eagle is buying drugs.
So, despite the West's headline, we're not really any further in the know than what was in the Sunday Times a year ago. It certainly appears to be the same allegation, and we don't appear to be any closer to a primary source.
PS: Fanboy, eh? Bah. Benny does rule though.

Exactly, its none of our business!
Being in the public eye, and being high profile players, they have a certain responsibility to uphold a level of behaviour which is acceptable.
If the allegations are true, they did not uphold this level of behaviour which is required, off season or not.

i think the question needs to be asked are sports stars obliged to be role models?
if you want all the extras that go along with being in the public eye (endorsements, leadership roles etc) then yes but otherwise i'm not so sure.
as for the news being bought up again. well it is part of the police comission so its not surprising.

If a player is charged and convicted then sure get rid of him/them, otherwise there's not much the club can do except for drug testing and education.
In the end we are talking about "just" footballers, granted they are heros and rolemodels to some, but in light of the events of last couple of weeks, some perspective should be taken on just how highly we place them.
I don't rate this issue much at all.

If this turns out to be true and the players involved around found to be guilty.
Then yes they should be punished as wether they like it or not there role models and are expected to act as such.
At the least all leaderhip roles should be striped.

Yep! For once I find myself agreeing with you Sabre. This is no way for role models to behave!

Just because someone is a role model, doesn't mean that they have to be pure as white snow (NPI). They have a right to a reasonable amount of privacy. It isn't as if they were aware that this would definately ba made public.

it doesn't matter whether they knew it would become public knowledge or not- if you do the crime, pay the time!
Remember there are young impressionable people out there and they can't be given the wrong message if a player (whether senior, rookie or captain) is allowed to break the law.
Regardless of how good the 2 players are, I think having a society in control is more important than a game of football and I don't want my hometown to become f...ed up.
Can someone clarify something
I thought the two players named as being friends with a well known "Northbridge Identity" weren't the same two that were accused of buying the drugs twelve months ago?
Is iths right or are we talking about the same two?

My understanding is that there is no link between the photo from the Crown last year of the two boys with a prominent Perth businessman, and the phone tapping. The two events were however linked together due to the timing of their release (came out same week).
I also believe it may be behind the clubs intentions to trade some players this year (not necesarily those publicly mentioned.)
Im so bored with this story...
