Skeeta Olly has a report from todays training session.

Thanks RIG.

Decided that i should turn up to a training session. Since it was my first one, i didn't really know what i should be looking out for . Arriving half an hour late, i missed the start but managed to catch the rest.

It looked although it was about pressure, as for the main group, there were some drills going on. One was pressure on the mark, then a larger one, involving more players. It was a play that then resulted in a long kick. For example, a play in the midfield, resulting in a long kick into the forward 50 etc.

There was another group, in guessing the ones that had surgery, which concentrated on learning game players (or something) and handball skills. Towards the end, some short kicking came in.

Nearing the end, players including NLM and Gumbleton were working on reflexes (handball and kick) and Stanton was working with Hickmont concentrating on spot on chest passes.

Players that stood out: Stanton for one, looked keen, same with Gumbleton. Also heard the name Nash echo around.

The big news, i guess, would be an injury concern. McVeigh hobbled off into the change rooms with the doc running after him, inquiring if it was a hamstring. I guess time will tell if it was anything of concern.

Another thing to report, Primsall looks like he is settling in well :)

Sorry for the undetailed report, hopefully someone else who went can provide a better one.

Thanks for that report Skeeta, will no doubt see you through the traps in the ensuing weeks/months.

As for McVeigh, oh dear! Hope it isn't hamstring! If it is, I would suggest he concentrate on playing the general role in the backline ala '07 for the remainder of his career which I have to be honest have been calling for all along. Don't want to jump the gun but that would be 3-4 hamstring injuries in < 12 months.

In other news, can't wait for Gumbleton, I've given him huge wraps so I'm feeling as much under pressure for him to perform as he is! :thumbsu:

You want to play our best midfielder in the backline in fear of him getting injured? What sort of defeatest attitude is that?

You have just ruined my afternoon, Doc Reid and the hamstrings; when will he ever give up.

P.S.Keep up the good work - enough detail to keep the EFC throng satiated for a day or two.

I'd sooner get 3 good years out of him doing the Hodge type role than 17 more games of regaining fitness games in the midfield. But only if that was how it worked. If he's doing it a training he could do it playing forward pocket.

Although i can see you point, i feel we need to stick by McVeigh as he is probably our most damaging player at the top of his game. I feel he is effective in the backline but a real asset in the midfield. It is a concern about the number of hamstring incidents though.

I just think he's been a little unlucky with his injuries. Im hoping he'll come good and finish out his career with no more injuries. Of course i know nothing about the state of his body, he might have injury prone hamstrings.

hopefully Mcveigh is alright. he has been going pretty hard so far this pre-season from all reports, so it would be a shame to lose him for a month.

good to hear Nash is keen as well. and i remember watching some of the pre-season vids of last year's training, and his name got echoed a fair bit so he must work a fair bit in summer.

I was there. The only guy I saw go off was Slattery with what looked like a stomach muscle. Didn't see McVeigh go off with anything.

You think if he did have an injury they would of posted it on Essendonfc.com, and there isn't anything there.

Like i said, hopefully it was nothing. When it did happen, the two others that were there, which i saw, were on the opposite side speaking, facing away, when it happened.

From memory, years ago there was a commentator on radio by the name of Skeeta Coughlan who was involved in the around the grounds scores update. Now we've got Skeeta Olly- fascinating.

How's Myers travelling for those that attended training? Bulked up a bit or still relatively thin?

Saw a picture - reckon it was on BB - he looked very well defined - not huge but would have bugger all skinfolds.

All in all - he is looking good to play quite a few games this season me thinks.

Aren't they putting the water tanks in? Or has that finished, because currently they are training at La Trobe Uni.

I think there is cricket at windy hill so it'll be at Latrobe for a fair while. May be wrong though.

Would be best if they did. The Windy Hill surface is a disgrace during cricket season. Hard as hell.

Yup. But i read in the local rag that they want EFC to chip in for a bigger grandstand at Cross Keys before they move.

Didn't realise they actually had a grandstand to start with.
