View Full Version : Hunter / Penny

I see the Dogs are looking to off load Kingsley Hunter and the Hawks are ready to swoop amd the Tigers are looking at Penny.
It seems the Doggies are having a fire sale at the moment
HAWTHORN has shown interest in Bulldogs defender Kingsley Hunter.
It is believed the Dogs are happy to trade the out-of-contract Hunter, possibly for a third-round draft pick.
"We've made contact and asked about him," Hawthorn football manager John Hook said last night.
The Hawks were yesterday offering Luke McCabe and Rayden Tallis, but the Bulldogs are more likely to want a draft pick because of financial constraints.
The Hawks said their priorities were to snare a ruckman and stitch up a deal for Daniel Chick before turning their attention to Hunter.
And rival clubs also confirmed highly rated key defender Jade Rawlings was up for possible trade.
Rawlings -- a rebounding, marking defender -- has been dogged by knee problems. But at his best, he is one of the most effective defensive talls in the competition.
Rawlings' name had been also been linked to a deal to get Peter Everitt to Glenferrie Rd, but he will almost certainly remain with the Hawks.
"Jade's all right. He got through and played most games last year," Hook said, dismissing speculation Rawlings' knee was still causing him problems.
"Some clubs have asked about him."
Although the Dogs would welcome a Hunter trade, they refuse to budge on another key tall, Luke Penny.
It is believed the uncontracted Penny has told the Dogs he would prefer to go elsewhere. But at 21, he is ready to blossom as a key defender and the Dogs are keen to keep him as a much-needed tall option. He will have to try his luck in the pre-season draft if he wants to move on.
Clubs have shown interest in Bulldogs midfielder Mark Alvey but Nathan Eagleton looks certain to remain at Whitten Oval.
Losing Penny would be disastrous! Not getting anything for him would be even worse.
Hasn't set world on fire but only decent tall in that age bracket that is ready to play.

Penny can't go, heps our only good young tall
And if we trade Hunter for a 3rd round pick I'll be ****ed off. We are already short of tall defenders / forwards and with the prospect of losing Penny trading Hunter would be stupid. Add to that the fact Crofty and Kritter aren't as young as they used to be and our height problems are just going to get worse.
If Grant is to play down back and we want a taller forward line who's going to play as a tall forward???

I wonder why he is keen to leave? The club has been pretty patient with his injuries.
Another question is why a potentially key tall is uncontracted at this point in time.
Re Hunter, how many good games has he had in the past couple of seasons? After finishing the season with Werribee, I can understand why he wants to go.

Who would you accept for Kingsley from Hawthorn (be real remember)?
Jade Rawlings has been mentioned. I don't know too much about him but I think he's tall and a backman so that sounds alright.

If you could get Rawlings for Hunter, take the deal and run.

I think the club are keen to trade him and probably not him wanting to go? Rohan mentioned Dixons name in a trade (possibily BS).

Penny wants to go? Now thats really a problem.
Hunter? Hes just not up to it. For me he is a FF or hes nothing, and Id bet thats where the Hawks would play him.
Nobody wants Eagleton. big suprise.

The ACCC would investigate that deal. ;)

They'd obviously have to chuck in a draft pick ;)

Dreaming - absolutely dreaming.
Rawlings is the "captain" of our back 6 and one of only 2 quality tall defenders along with Hay we have. It would take something absolutely remarkable for us to trade him.
Hunter for 3rd round seems to be our offer - I'd take it but I know plenty of Hawk fans that wouldn't. Kingsley would most likely be a back up for us anyway.

Fair enough. I'd love Jade Rawlings at the Bulldogs but its obviously not gonna happen for Kingsley Hunter. I'd jump at a third round pick for Hunter.

LMAO, not a chance in hell.
I think a fourth round pick is fair.

not a chance in hell? - did anyone see Croady gettign traded roughly this time last year....................... anyone is fair game in this silly season and clubs tend to make some strange decisions.
Why would Penny want to go? We have shown a fair bit of faith in him and he has been given a fair go and is just about to produce the goods - dont let him go.

If we have to trade Penny he would command a decent player on the trade market.A young tall coming into his prime would have them swooping like vultures.Carltons on the market for a centre half back and I dare say a few other clubs are aswell. That is our problem we need talls and any trade we do with Penny would not see a tall coming back the other way as the other team would also be short on talls.
Brother said radio report suggested we were very keen on Dixon and Fevola.

We'd be stupid to accept a 4th round pick. Especially if we lose Penny
What a fine way to fix our height problem in defence. Getting rid of tall defenders

Might be part of a bigger plan but it does seem strange to have two players like Penny and Hunter on the trade table.
If Luke does not want to stay then I will understand if the Dogs let him go. We are not is a position to get too tough on players.
Mead form Port has retired and Paxman might follow so perhaps a trade with Port might be on the cards if they are looking for a key defender.
French would be worth considering but I think the club wants to target Brogan and Penny would be worth a lot more than him.

I see that Hunter may be traded, I was saying 'not a chance in hell' when templeton said Hunter for Rawlings..
No chance of that happening.

I read something yesterday that Cartlon might only have to part with a third round pick to get Barnaby French and Port are considering it because French wants to move to Melbourne.
Surely Essendon would give them a second round pick for him.

Damn I wish the Hawks had got him for a third round pick.
We could've parted with pick 40 for French instead of pick 8 AND 24 for Everitt.
Ahh well, I still think Everitt will be a great player for the Hawks.

There is talk of a third round pick for Hunter.
There was also talk of Rawlings being bandied about as trade bait in the Everit deal, which has now been done.
Would anyone consider Hunter and Alvey for Rawlings I wonder?

Most Doggies supporters would but I doubt that that the Hawks would trade Rawling unless better players had been offered.

I think with Hunter likely to go because of our need to get down to 92.5% of the cap it all but rules us out of acquiring any player with more than 50 games experience. Glad they are working on keeping Luke Penny but things must be worse than I thought in trying to get down to that magical mark.
I'd expect that we will loose a few fringe players for not much more than third and fourth round picks.

I would give not just one but both testicles if we could get Rawlings to the dogs.

You would give up the chance of starting a new life to have Rawlings? Dude, I think we both know you wouldn't do that. Even though it expresses how much you are keen to get Rawlings, the thought of losing 1 or 2 testicles is just gross
Ohh, I just had something to eat, too. :p ;)
