I am disappointed if Penny leaves. I am surprised he wants to go. He is the type of plyer we need, so if he does leave we would want real quality in return. Does anyone know if it's true he wants to leave and if so why?

Money?
Comes from east side of town?
Not enough opportunities with Wallace?
Changing position every week.
Dropped for last game?

In the paper it says "prefer to to go elsewhere". I hope its the last 3, they can be fixed.

Perhaps it should say "other clubs have floated this rumour to increase their chances of getting him"

Perhaps he feels he may struggle to get match time with Grant going to CHB

Why did the club extend Wiggins contract and left Penny uncontracted?

Sure, why would loosing the only doggies youngster over 6'2 and 80 kilos that had shown a bit of form be a great loss?

For the sarcasm-challeneged amongst us...

Who cares whether he is 6ft2 and 80 kilos?
If he cant play theres no point bragging about his height and weight just because he is one of few talls that the doggies have.
What form has this guy shown in the time he has been there?

He can play. He started the season off well, in round 2 against the Roos he took 12 marks. He then got injured ruining the majority of his season. If he is fully fit next season he will no doubt be a regular in our backline

I am a bit iffy about Penny. I've seen him play some very good games and I've seen him get murdered. He also seems to be injury-prone, although time will tell. He definitely needs to step up in 2003.

I reckon he just needs a bit of luck with injuries...uninterrupted pre-season, and a regular gig in the same position. Anyone would struggle being thrown onto a rampaging David Neitz after spending most of the season out, the poor bastard.

Sort of like Matthew Croft when he was starting out. Penny will be at least a good, servicable player. We cannot lose him!

I’m worried. Seriously, seriously worried - one of, if not the most important players outside of our top 5, IMO.

We've been pretty lucky in the past with required players sticking with the club ... do we try our luck and refuse to trade (and risk getting nothing in return)? Or try to organise getting a first round pick and a player?

If he's adamant that he's gonna walk, leaving us with no option but to trade him, the only 'positive' is that a CHB with a few seasons of development under his belt and 10 years in front of him (without the inflated salary of others on the market) would command a hell of a lot in trade terms ... would much rather see the headline "Penny signs new 4 year deal with Bulldogs" though! :(

**** yeah. A walk up start KPP who could play either end. We simply cannot afford to loose him. If he wants money give it to him and drop some Kingsleys and Eagletons off the payroll. If he is desperately unhappy playing in defence then throw him forward. Just keep him!!!

Good question, perhaps Luke was not keen to sign on the dotted line

"Meanwhile, the Western Bulldogs are adamant they will not trade defender Luke Penny despite a request from the player to be traded.

Bulldog's football operations officer Steve Newport said the club was working through issues with Penny. "There's been a lot of changes at the club of late and so we just need to reassure him that we're going to be doing the things that he is looking for to help further his career," he said.

"We see him as a really important player for our future, he's the sort of young player who we really need and so were going to do everything that we can to hold on to him."

Won't rest easy until he signs a new contract, but at least the club realises his worth and are doing their absolute best to keep him.

Couldn't agree more. Must be retained. The kid can play, and its not as if we have an abundance of tall backline players!!!

Im sure the Kangaroos would be interested if he become available.Hes the type of player we need down in the Backline since ours is ageing at a rapid rate!!

What would you want in a trade for him!

Not much on offer from the Kangaroos that would interest the Doggies. What do you think would be a fair offer ?

Give up Penny and Alvey and grab the Roos' pick 4 and 20. I reckon that would be alright.

Penny for pick 19 apparently. Looks like we've done quite well from the deal. What are his reasons for wanting to leave?

Are you for real???

Luke Penny is going to be one of our best players in years to come? How can you even think of trades for him, shouldn't we all be thinking of ways to keep him at the club???
