I'd like to see Chick in the half back line.

He would be good in the half back line I reckon.. would definately toughen up the backline. I reckon half forward flank though. Can kick goals, put a lot of pressure on defenders and set up plays.

Use him as Mr Fixit. Need a few goals? Send him forward. Need to bruise up a few players in defence? Down back for Chooky. Need someone to feed the ball to Cuzz and Judd? Thats right, into the middle for Chick.

His inclusion in our squad will hopefully release Wirra from the Mr Fixit role and allow him to play HF constantly.

Bench warmer, nah just kidding.

I would play him much like we play Wirrpunda HF/Midfield. Can give Kerr a breather when he needs it. Should be a good pick up for the Eagles.

Id like to see Chick at Half forward. He was Hawthorns leading goal kicker this year, so he knows where the big sticks are. Im salivating at the thought of the pressure he and Phil Matera will create defensively in our forward line together too.

I'd also like to see him spend time rotating through the midfield as our in and under player, helping Kerr and Banners. He certainly adds some options for the club.

Probably what is Chicks best quality is his versatility. Can play anywhere in the midfield, makes a droolworthy HFF, could even pinch hit as a small defender if we were in need.

Incidentally, I like a HF line of Chick, Macdougall Pe. Matera, with something like Williams Wilson Ph. Matera at FF.

Now, please please please please please let us get Headland as well :)

For the majority of the 2K/2K1 season I bitched and moaned about how Wirrpunda should be moved out of defence and into the midfield.

But I'm a fickle bastard, and now I want him to go back again.

With the development of Judd, the rebirth of Roo, and the arrival of Chick - I think we could afford the luxury of Wirra down back. He played there in bursts this season and the backline always seemed to look better with him sweeping up. It would definitely go a long way to solving our small defender problems.

So, basically, I would like to see Chick take over the wing/forward role that Wirra performed this year.

Gee... aren't we looking a very good team again ? At this time last year we were the wooden spoon favourites but now with Chick, Micale as a full time assistant coach and the development of our young players, we should aspire to a top four spot. I know it's too early and things can go wrong but there is no harm in being positive.:)

Damn straight-
FB: Reid McIntosh Collica
HB:Green Jakovich Hunter
C: Judd Fletcher Wirrpunda
HF:Chick Mcdougall Pe. Matera
FF: Jones Wilson Ph. Matera
R:Gardiner Cousins Kerr
Int:Chambers, Cox, Lynch, Banfield

With Gaspar, Morrison, Sampi, Wooden, Williams, Humm, Braun, Munro & Haynes in the mix.

If the impossible happens, and we get Headland for a reasonable price, I think I'm off to Fivestar betting to take them up on their $51 for a WC premiership odds. Well worth a $20 punt in any case, and the 1k return if we ever made it would make the celebrations all the more sweeter.

You're forgetting Glass, who I think is up for FB alongside Milli next year.

But other than that, it's a pretty damn good team on paper.

Chick would be best used as a forward. BUt he must be rotated through the middle to add a little toughness and bite to our midfield. That's where i see him playing next year.

Oh and please dont move Wirrpunda back to defence. He is much better forward of the ball where he can create.

IMO Wirra was much better accross the half back line.

No way, he was never that good of a defender. Was always loose on his man but he was great at creating play and rebounding the ball. But he is better forward of the ball.

I'd use him across half forward, the pressure he'd apply would be awesome. Also, he can be thrown into the midfield if needed

I think Chick will be played in a position depending on the opposition. Our onballers are not powerful, apaert from Banfield if he gets a good preseason in. We tend to win ruck contests and get sharked at times and Chick could strengthen that area. He will probably be rotated from forward pocket to midfield. I am hoping that Read will be back and solve the small defender problem.

Wiira is an enigma, his rebound from defence is terrific, but he suffers lapses of ball watching and losing his opponent, whicch can be costly. He scored some geat goals as a half forward last year and i'd keep him there.

Chick strengthens the squad, but who misses out? I see McDougall, Sampi, Morrisson, Prior and Gaspar all in line for permanent places next season and Sierra will be on the edge too.
Will Lynch figure?

What would our best side be?

I'd definately play him across the half forward line, with stints in the midfield. He is agressive and hard at the ball - he would be extremely helpful in providing defensive pressure in the forward line.. can't wait to see him and fido going all out to keep the ball in the forward 50. With their pressure and Wilson crashing unsuspecting packs of defenders - Opposition defenders better be on their toes

Half Forward / Midfield.

Maybe the occassional stint on the wing.

If Chick isn't played around the corridor, he's being wasted, IMO

I think we might see a line-up looking a bit like this if Chicks comments are anything to go by:

C: Judd Chick Wirrpunda
R: Gardiner Cousins Kerr

From Realfooty.com

I'd love to play in the midfield more often," he said. "I'll use the pre-season to get myself into the running shape that you have to be in to play that position. My fitness dropped off after playing so much in the forward line.

I think back flank, we lacked firepower of there this year with Read out all year, Morrison out and Wirrpunda playing on the wing.

they will be back next year, but they probably will take time to get back into it, and the extra experience will help.

I'd also use him for stints in the middle.

Sounds good. Will add toughness to our midfield and it sounds like he is excited about playing for us.
