Todays "West Australian" says that Collingwood have offered Damien Adkins for Andrew Williams.
Can anyone tell me about Damien Adkins?
GO EAGLES!
Dont know anything about him but this is from the AFL Website:
DAMIEN ADKINS - MAGPIE BIOGRAPHY
Had a superb debut season in 2000 that had good judges predicting a distinguished career for the youngster, then had his 2001 ruined by osteitis pubis. The confident speedster with the dazzling moves and boundless energy managed played three games as he continues to rebound. Adkins remains dangerous and at 21 still has time to re-establish himself as a consistent senior contributor.
Wouldnt take too much into it though, these are always talked up

Got that pube injury hey?
Always a hard injury to shake, sounds like Collingwood is trying to offload damaged goods while he has some value to me.
I smell a rat.
Surely Malthouse wouldnt try and screw his old team would he?? ;)

Did Adkins play in Collingwoods GF team?
Damien Adkins is very talented and i wouldn't be disspaointed in that.
Problem is that Adkins is a bit injury prone but he's still young and has lots of time to get over it.
when collingwood played us at subi this year i think it was adkins who was one of the few pies players to perform.
I'd rather keep Williams.

What is the point in getting Adkins? He wont break into our midfield and will have to settle for a spot in the forward line. Andrew Williams has already proven that he can take strong marks inside the 50 and then kick goals. Im not very happy with this deal at all

Watch the Eagles game against the Pies this year, and then tell me that his bloke can't play. He was their best player by an absolute mile.
Adkins looked like he was going to be a star before he got struck down with OP. He's a lot like Juddy actually - very quick, skilful, finds his way through traffic, and loves kicking a goal.
I'd be pleased if the trade went through.

I am highly suspicious of the player who has one good game a year - he was definitely looking for a trade that day.

I'd be pleased if the trade went through. He reminded me of David Bain (ex E.Perth/Brisbane Bears). He looks okay, but our midfield is packed. We need to concentrate on developing key position players and players who can take a grab. Keeping Williams would be the better option, I think.

It's a question of perception of upside on both players.
Mick obviously believes that Williams, who he knows well and played well for him, can do better than he has done in the last 3 seasons. I've always liked Andrew and he looked good in earlier years, but I was disappointed with his performances at AFL and WAFL level last year.
If Woosha has the same perception of upside - that Adkins, once over OP and with a regular run in the side, can establish himself as a midfielder - then a trade makes sense.

Superb 2000??? Superb start to 2000 is more like it. Well before the O.P kicked in, he was ruined by three Fremantle tackles in the space of five minutes that sucked every ounce of confidence, dazzling moves and all the energy he had for the year.
The last tackle by Heath Black was the best (and unlike the first two, wasn't paid by the maggots)... but he was concussed when he hit the Colonial surface and missed a couple of weeks.... from that moment he was a mere shadow of the previous razzle dazzle for the rest of 2000.
thanks for that SJ
got the info from the AFL site.
i remember malthouse using Williams across half forward with Cummings at FF... this combination worked well for a while and i have no doubt that if given the opportunity Williams will become a good player

I think Collingwood are the real winners in that swap
The only reason the Eagles would want this swap is if Williams was homesick.
Crazy swap me thinks, but then time will tell.

i don't know about that one.
william's qualities are pretty well know, especially amongst WCE supporters.
adkins could be great for us or we could have just cleaned up position 21 or 22 on our playing list. he couldn't be as bad as tuckey.

I think Andy Williams has shown what he's capable of at this level. A handy utility, but still very much a fringe player. I'm not sure he's got a lot more improvement left in him.
Adkins is a bit of punt, but if he can fulfil that exciting potential, then the Eagles will be the clear winners.
Just my opinion.

oh yeah he replaced morrison in the seniors last year.
fair enough but i still think he will struggle to break into our best 22. way to may players would get a run before him.
In Tuckeys defence, he looked good in that preseason game against Carlton ;)
Im saddened by the departure of Williams. He was a personal favourite of mine. Pretty annoying. :(

I was the same when I heard Williams was on the table for a trade ( I thought Embley was far more likely) but when I head it was Adkins in return........
The kid could be anything (and I admit also nothing). Let's just hold our judgement for a few months and see how he goes next year.

You would think the Eagles would have preferred Williams to Embley.
What makes it hurt even more is seeing one of my favourite players running around in a freaking Pies guernsey *vomit bags on standby*
I could perhaps stomach it if i saw him in a Crows, Port, Brisbane, Sydney guernsey, but Collingwood!!

Not if he didn't want to stay.
And Embley was sill getting a game. He has enourmous talent - just needs to show more week to week.

I never realised how many games Williams has played for us. Obviously Collingwood are going to try and groom Williams in a forward pocket position to replace Nick Davis.

Williams was one of those players who we never seemed to realise was playing. He played MANY games in a row, until he was dropped earlier this year. Will do wonders for Collingwood, but GO CHIPPER!
