Western Bulldogs’ defender Luke Penny is set to remain at the Whitten Oval, despite reports that the key position player is on the move.
Chief operating officer Stephen Newport indicated Penny was part of the Bulldogs’ future and that the club was working through some issues with the strong defender.
“Luke will definitely stay at the Bulldogs,” Newport said.
Penny, 21, played just six games in 2002 after a knee injury interrupted his season, yet four of games came from rounds 18-21, when he fought his way back into the side late in the year.
It followed on from a promising 2001, where he played 21 games for the season and received a rising star nomination. He has played a total of 35 games since making his debut in 2000.
Meanwhile, Newport suggested that the future of robust defender/forward Trent Bartlett would be assessed after the trading period.
