Anyone seen any episodes of this? Came across it on eztv a couple of weeks back, but haven't found time to check out the pilot yet.

Apparently about the inner workings of a bikie gang and created by a producer/writer from The Shield.

All of what I've read seems very positive and implies it's pretty hardcore.

Its great, a lot of movies have failed at depicting the real world of 1% Motorcycle clubs, the producers have done their homework on this though.

It's like the sopranos but with Outlaw Mc's insted. The show is loosely based on a true story and the book 'Out in bad standings'. Season 1 just finished airing in the states, season 2 is in production now.

Also If you like this a new Mel Gibson film is in production called 'Alone and Under' another true story based on the William Queen Book, about an undercover officer who infiltrated the Mongols MC.

The reviews that I've seen have been all good. The guy who developed it used to work on The Shield so there's some pedigree.

I'm upto episode 5. Bloody great show. I've always been interested in bikie gangs so this was a very pleasent surprise when I found it.

I like how the main dude has the biggest wigger swagger in history.

Watched the first episode. Looks quite promising.

Old Peg Bundy is a piece of work, looks like she's gonna pull a few strings.

Yeah seen a episode on Discovery Channel about this bloke, had to forego his family etc for about 3 years or so. He became so heavily involved into the Brotherhood he didn't know if he wanted to grass them up in the end.

On the subject on "SOA" I have watched one episode so far and will watch the 2nd tomorrow, pretty good cast with Hellboy and Peg Bundy :D

Finally caught up to current eps. It's funny, around ep 6-7 of the first season I was thinking "Henry Rollins would be a great fit for this show" and lo and behold here he is. Although I was more thinking he would be better suited to a biker but his white supremecist character suits him as well.
Loving it so far.

I'm a bit behind the times. I'm only up to Season 4 of The Wire, I have Deadwood lined up after that, I'm getting Generation Kill and the box set of The Shield around Christmas, but I'm always looking for a new show to take an interest in, and Sons of Anarchy just might be it.

Without giving too much away, could someone very briefly summarise the pilot and season 1, you know, to pique my interest?

hamG

Watch The Shield, then replace the strike team with a bikie gang and thats what Sons is.

But an ultra short description, Sons of Anarchy are a biker gang in a small town who control & protect the town. It is the Shield approach of good guys who are actually bad guys doing bad things which are actually good things.

The Shield is the best show I have ever seen and everyone I know who has watched it agrees, Sons is being done by the same crew so the shows have a lot of awesome parallels despite being very different.

Edit: I should add most of the Sons stories are about rival gangs and vigilante justice and family.

Yep, and there's also clearly a Lady MacBeth influence on Gemma. I think they're probably getting away from that influence in S2 though.

Am halfway through season one (up to Half-Sack flipping out during the boxing match). Has been excellent so far.

I'm round abouts the same place. I quite like it but want it to be better than it is. I haven't seen The Shield, but I have seen The Wire and I just wish it could have more of the gritty realism that The Wire has.

SoA just seems to have that element of hollywood. For example, the Mayans are cardboard cutouts and seemingly could not hit the broad side of a barn with a bucket full of buckshot - seriously, they are like A-team bad guys. Peggy Bundy launchs into a strange tirade about the holocaust to that old Nord bloke, yeah that sounded like an authentic bikie mole.

Jax is so willfully miscast it's crazy. I'd like to see a more overt appeal to the female demographic. Baggy jeans, white sneakers, blond bob, top button done up on his flannel FFS (add in the whigger stagger too, well spotted). Opie would have been much better in the role.

SoA keeps pulling it's punches.

Oh yeah, I don't like their helmets either. But i do like the show overall:D

This season it has officially turned into the all singing, all dancing, all overacting Katey Sagal show. It's become the bold & the beautiful with the odd biker scene. I don't know what they were thinking, there is no way this will get a 4th season if it keeps up like this. This show was at its best when it shows people what they don't already see 24/7 on TV - church (round table meetings/votes), wild biker parties, underworld politics, nutless clowns, acid trips....

****en Katey Sagal slurring out her "it's ok baby"'s in every 2nd scene because her husband wrote or had her written eyes deep into every script

FX Orders Fourth Season of Its Hit Drama Sons of Anarchy

Critically Acclaimed Drama Starring Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman and Katey Sagal Is Basic Cable’s #1 Scripted Series Among Adults 18-49

8 All New Episodes Remain This Season Airing Tuesdays at 10 PM ET/PTWith Season Three Finale Airing November 30

LOS ANGELES, October 7, 2010 – FX has renewed its critically acclaimed hit drama Sons of Anarchy for a fourth season, placing a 13-episode order from Fox 21 and FX Productions, announced John Landgraf, President and General Manager, FX Networks.

Eight all-new episodes remain in SOA’s current third season airing Tuesdays at 10pm et/pt, and beginning in two weeks the encore runs will air Tuesdays at 11pm and 1am, Fridays at 10pm and Sundays at 10pm. The third season finale will air on Tuesday, November 30.

In 2010, Sons of Anarchy ranks as basic cable’s number one scripted series in delivery of Adults 18-49. On a weekly, multi-telecast basis, Sons of Anarchy delivers 8.6 million Total Viewers and 5.9 million Adults 18-49. On a first-run, primary telecast basis, Sons averages 4.9 million Total Viewers and 3.4 million Adults 18-49. It is the highest rated series ever for FX.

“Sons of Anarchy is the most popular show FX has ever had, and the #1 series in basic cable for our key demographic. It is also one of the best, most original series on television,” said Landgraf. “FX is grateful to Kurt Sutter and his team of writers, actors, directors and crew for working so hard to make a show that achieves both those levels of success. We congratulate them and look forward to season four.”

In the next episode of Sons of Anarchy (“The Push,” October 12, 10pm et/pt), the Sons of Anarchy must handle a rat at St. Thomas to protect their territory.

I wouldn't go as far as you but I do agree its gone downhill this season, the plots are simply uninteresting. Who wants a whole season of trying to find Abel or several episodes in a row of Gemma putting her father in a home.

Agreed its losing its way. Leaving out some of the more interesting characters, like opie and Juice, some development would be nice. Looking forward to seeing what happens with Chibs and the backstory of Trigg and with Kenny Johnson (Lem).

Hopefully it picks up soon, cause this back and forth shit with Gemma menopausing and Jacks and Terra breaking up every 45 seconds is getting old quickly.

It's almost like The Bold & The Beautiful have decided to do a "gritty" story arc involving bikies.

Hmmm, yeah, I knew when that scene happened you would be all over it, but I mean in a more overall sense, you called it "another dud episode", so I am asking what story you expect?...I mean, the IRA story has been embedded since series one, where they were running the guns. Sutter said on the BD extras this season was always gonna flesh out the characters and that story.

Do you think it is only because Katey Sagal is his wife that you dislike her character, or is a matriarch that bore a son to one founder and is hitched up with the other not expected to have some pull/influence? Would Kath Pettingill or Judy Moran not be believable characters even though they really existed? Personally I'm more put off by the Tara character than Gemma, but still not enough to be turned off the show by it. I'd rather have characters with a modicum of depth than just cookie cut out bikies that shoot at Mexicans week-in week-out whilst never dieing. That would be where it became a true parody...more in the 60s Batman vein though...

At some point you gotta ask yourself "Why watch it?" if you dislike it THAT much...

The fact is no women have that kind of pull in a club, it doesn't matter if she's married to a president or not. Other members certainly don't give a shit in reality, and the club comes before anyone....so i've heard

Also, i don't dislike her char because she's married to Sutter, i dislike it because Sutter has injected Gemma into every single ****ing scene in the show because she's his wife. It's boring. 1st two seasons were about SoA mostly. This season is about the WAGs and it's giving me the shits, if i wanted to watch teary chicks every 2nd scene i'd watch greys anatomy or whatever the ****.

I am struggling to watch it. This season it takes me about 5 goes to watch an episode, i generally cut it off after 10 minutes of boredom and pick it up again later.

Yeah, except for the storyline in season one about her and Tara, and Jax's ex-wife and the baby...or season two with the whole rape storyline and the subsequent quasi-crush that Unser had on her, finishing up with her role in the murder of Zobelle's daughter...face it, she's been an integral part of the show since day dot. We're not talking about an old lady that just joined the club, we are talking one that's been there since its inception...involved with both founding members...behind every great man is a manipulative bitch.

And as for wives and girlfriends being more this season...Donna in season one, Jax's ex in season one, Tara in all three seasons...

one more before I go...how can we not enjoy lines like the following?:

Tara: What is up with those two?
Chuckie: Not sure, but judging by the level of malevolence, there's gotta be at least one vagina involved...
Tara: Thanks for the insight

Season 1 and 2 they were peripheral. You can't seriously be saying it was this bad in the 1st two seasons. What about the new episode where we get to stare at gemmas expressionless face for like 10 minutes when she meets the blonde irish girl. Or whenever gemma rocks up somewhere in a car, and we get to stare at her jutted out jawline for 5 minutes while she surveys the land. It's goofball stuff.

hey..hey guys...ok guys...close in on my wifes face...ok..keep it there...keeeeep iiiiiiit...keeeeeeeeeep iiiiiiiiit.....ok...just a few more seconds....keep it there while i go write the next script, with 35 minutes of katey

The "women' storylines in the 1st couple of seasons were believable at least

The background has been embedded, it doesn't mean the plot had to proceed the way its done. The build up to going to Ireland was far too drawn out and the plots during the build up were dramatically uninteresting unless you want to watch soaps.

Ok, so three weeks have passed and we have seen nothing but mayhem and carnage. Belfast has brought so much death and destruction, near incest (Sutter apparently tweeted that he wanted to go to penetration, but Standards and Practices wouldn't allow it ) and double crosses. SAMBEL and the IRA have a fair bit of clean-up on their hands. Two more eps left for the season and we head back to Charming full-time. Tara is in a world of trouble, Jimmy has the Priest and a date with death, Jax has the letters and will (I guess) learn more about his father's death and Gemma and Clay's involement, big-brother-Hale has issues to cover up and Stahl is looking to return to her worst. Looks like a fair bit to cram in.

Best episode of the season so far.

Do you find this show messes with your own personal emotions? I read a lot of people who get quite excited with say the torture and subsequent execution of O'Neill, and the murder of Salazar and his ol' lady. Yet right before each incident I feel sorrow for these characters. Perhaps thats just down to good writing and acting...guess I'll never make it in an MC :p. Hale on the other hand...can't wait to see that prick get what's coming to him...or at least a haircut. :D Oh and how cold is Stahl...really??

It's been a bit better the last 2 shows. Interesting factoid of the day, Happy from SoA is a member of the Hells Angels in real life.
