View Full Version : preparing for the trades

Just quickly my thoughts on some things before anything happens on Monday.

- We trade Chick for pick 10, which I'm happy with.

- Wowoedin (excuse the spelling, henceforth to be known as Woey) rumoured for pick 16...

- Essendon rumoured to recieve pick 17 for Caracella as well as getting Cupido and McPhee.

This tells me three things,

- Melbourne are getting screwed
- Essendon are comitting daylight robbery
- whilst I think we are about spot on.

Going on these rumours, I think we should be making a bigger play for Woey, surely we could put together a better package for him and entice him home? It would be worth dealing players to open up the salary cap room.

Now onto us, I'm very upset with the prospect of trading Andrew Williams. I'm going on record as saying I have no idea about Adkins, so I'm not saying he's a bad player, I'm saying, we now havbe four players who will play flanks, Chick, Williams, Embley and Haynes, and Chick IMO will play a lot of forward flank given the amount of midfielders we have. Like I said, it's not that I think it's a bad trade, i don't know about Adkins, but I rate Williams very highly.

he takes a great mark, kicks pretty well and seems to have a good football brain. Contrast this with Embley and Haynes ... I just think that it would be a mistake to deal him.

AFl.com rumours Haynes for St.Kilda's 2nd round pick, which would be 19 I think, maybe 20. Well, I'd do that before Williams, but then, would we be trading away too many of "them".

having said all that, i love this time of year.

I hope the Haynes deal goes through. We'd have picks #19 and 26 to try and outbid Collingwoods pick #16 for Woewodin. Williams must stay. Even if he won't play every week he would be a very handy utility to have as backup.

Overall, good to see we didn't trade away any of our better players (Gardy, Kerr, Wirra and Cox as was rumoured).

I think if we did get #19 from the Saints that we wouldn't be trading it.

The way I see it is that WC realise that in a weak draft they don't want to be picking up a player after the mid 30's and so try and trade a couple of players for mid range draft picks to avoid this.

Hence Haynes for #19.

I will be seriously disappointed if we trade either Andrew Williams or David Haynes. What a waste after we have put a couple of years into them I don't think we need another smallish built midfielder like Adkins. And pick #19 for David is a disgrace.

They've both been on the list a long time, though, and not really established themselves as first-teamers in a side that hasn't been a finalist apart from last year.

Some of this may be attributed to Judge, but I didn't think either showed much under Woosha this year.

#19 is all we can expect for a fringe player in this market.

The question is - are they going to improve enough to be worth keeping on? (I don't know the answer to that).

the only question the coaching staff will be asking is 'was Haynes game against essendon a one off?, or has he turned the corner??'

he was very impressive in that game
