View Full Version : Blumfield
Justin Blumfield traded for pick 30 in a weak draft. WTF!!!
I hope there is method in their madness, because it's not looking too good so far.

Very disapointing result, I was happy to trade 1 or 2 of Cara,Blum & heff but all 3??? Cara & Heff deals seemed reasonable but pick 30 for Blumfield is a joke.

Happy to see Heff off for pick 12, but Blumfield was a shock for 30. He's a better player than Heffernan, but those last minute trades always shock people.
At least Mercs is still around. I just hope that is a good thing.
We are still not even until we get a replacement for Sheedy.
Although Blumfield for pick 30 is a start.
How do guys rate him against Caracella and Heffernan?
And roughly what will we be paying him???

We definitely lost on that and i would say it was primarily done for salary cap reasons, but if Heff was a problem in that respect, why the hell did they sign him for 3 years earlier in the season? Blumfield for #30 is practically giving him away.

Yeah, I posted when I thought it was just Heff for #12. Now I find out it was Heff + #17 for #12.
We lost out on that one. I'd almost say we lost out on all trades.
Still, picks 12 & 13 are pretty good. Hopefully a decent young ruckman is still available at that time.

Blummers hasn't exactly been injury free for the past two seasons. Played most games this season but was always under a cloud.
Bit disappointed that we did trade Blumfield, especially for only pick number 30.
Got shafted pretty badly.
Thank God Brisbane helped us out by wanting Caracella.
Otherwise we probably would have given him up for a third round draft pick.
I didn't think that we were under that much salary cap pressure that we had to virtually give away players. You'd think that 2 of the 3 would have been enough.
Tigers fans, you can laugh now but remember what goes around comes around. One day you will need to trade with us and I hope we bend you guys over severely.

Worst trade of the week.
We c-cked this one up bad. Not that I rate Blumfield much, but he is at least worth as much as Heffernan.

Yes, they played in a premiership, and have done nothing since that. (Peter Somerville was a premiership player too. ) I'm sorta annoyed that caracella left, I think he was the best of the 3. Never been impressed by blumfeild, and heffernan was hot and cold.

Because of salary cap probs we trade a premiership player for draft pick #30 and then spend some of our salary cap paying for a Richmond player?
Doesn't make sense.:(

You're not actually serious about that % of Blumfield's Richmond salary being counted under your salary cap are you?
Either way the question still needs to be asked... WTF is going on down there at Windy Hill?!!!?

It's *****ed, to use a profanity.
THree of my favourites too, I must admit. Although they didn't do much this year, I nkow they have the potential to be stars. It was these peripheral players that gave us extra depth, and when they did lift, we regained 2000 form. A prime example of this was the Melbourne game at colonial. For 3 quarters, those three lifted, and we were awesome.
All is not lost though, with their departure, we'll get a bit of freshness into the list, and we'll be able to put Rama and MJ into the middle, full time.

We lost Alvey due to the AFL fax machine!!!!!
Blumfield -> Mark Alvey & #30 pick
Happier with that deal?

there's a difference between a premiership player, and a premiership player that nearly won a norm smith - blumfield was awesome that day.

im not here to gloat or anything im more realistic than that!
some serious questions have to be answered by all concerned in light of the bomber situation.
you build a side to become a premiership contender at the very least and you achieve your goal.
a few years down the track and the afl more or les punishes you for that success.
but then again it comes back to who the afl really want to succeed here and the proof in that is brisbane! surely they must be in a similar situation as you guys even with headland leaving.
i guess living in the 2nd most expensive city is nothing in the afl eyes when it comes to the northern states salary cap wise.
like i said this could happen to the tigers down the track but for the good of the game something has to change.
cheers!

I don't think Richmond shafted you. Essendon originally offered Richmond Blumfield and Caracella for the #4 pick, but we said no thanks because we were after Johnson at that stage. I think Essendon came back late to offer Blumfield to Richmond because we didn't try to shaft you, unlike St Kilda who offered Aussi Jones for Blumfield and the #12 pick. That would have been getting shafted.
You were always going to be behind the eight ball having a fire sale like this, but looking at the long term you at least have come out of it with 4 picks in the first 30, including two first rounders.

That's what p*sses me the most about our current situation,
The club's worked it's ar$e off in recent years to get where it is, only to be punished for all that hard work and now, one could argue, we are back in the same position we were 5/6 years ago.
What really annoys me is it sure as sh*t won't happen to Brisbane.
I'm really angry with the events of the last few days, and at the moment, i'm not really sure i want to saddle up again next year.
AFL football can go f*ck itself, i've just about had enough.

Whilst I will never feel sorry for Essendon, I do feel sorry for some supporters because you are right in saying that the club has worked hard to get where it is, but has been penalised when Brisbane hasn't. For your work you did deserve better.
I do believe that the salary cap will come down for brisbane at some stage.
Maybe matthews feels it ...because we are starting to see his ugly face on TV more often and he seems to campaigning like their is an election coming up.
Dunno..

The beauty of football is that it is cyclical.
How many Fitzroy supporters had absolutely disowned Brisbane 3 years ago??
I hear the BANDWAGON thundering along....
Get ready for the rough ride, Bombers, still no ruckman at the top level and no-one has stepped up enough yet in the mid-field or in forward pockets to give another target other than Lloyd.
Please prove me wrong guys, I will be ecstatic!!!
But I will still be there in 2-3 years time, when some of the decisions pay off....will everyone else?
