Right here (http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=65651).
Geez we are gonna have a nice midfield if we play our cards right...
i'm happy with this trade.
willaims can be great but was never consistent. i would probably rate him around 20 - 26 on our list.
adkins has potential.
the worst case scenario is that adkins turns out to be a dud and we make room for another player in our best 22.

I thought our midfield was already 'nice'.
Not sure about Adkins yet, but geez I rated Andy. He's a player who can (and did) play pretty much anywhere for us. Very strong mark, one of the most accurate kicks on goal, and could play both above and below his size.
This doesn't help our defensive problems. But if you lot, who've seen more of Adkins think it's a win, I'll give it time ;)
Hmm, lets see how he turns out. If Adkins can find consistency, he'd be a first teamer, but I wonder if we need another second string midfielder, a la Braun, Chambers, Fletcher, Jones, Banfield, Wooden, Humm etc etc.
Given our first six are probably Wirrpunda, Kerr, Cousins, Judd & Fletch (possibly exchange Chick for Wirrpunda depending on who plays forward), that leaves Braun, Chambers, Jones, Banfield, Wooden, Humm, Matera and Adkins fighting for a couple of interchange spots. Now obviously some of these players can find different niches, but the fact remains we have a very full card when it comes to midfielders.

Good luck back in Vic, Andrew. It seems only yesterday we were celebrating a Finals win over the Bulldogs, but that was 3 seasons ago now.
Gives both players and both clubs a chance to see how it goes. Probably a fair enough trade all round.

Running six: Cousins, Chick, Kerr, Judd, Braun + Gardy/Cox
Jones tags as necessary. Wooden is a defender, ditto Roo. Chambers and Fletcher can go forward, as can Roo if needed. Wirrpunda in pockets at either end. Humm and Adkins maybe not first 22 just yet, Banfield...hmmm...

Do we really need Adkins? I mean our midfield is probably close to the top 4 already, with plenty of potential for improvement. Why do we need Adkins? At the moment Cousins, Kerr, Judd, Wirra, Fletch, Chambers, Braun, Banfield and Roo amongst others are infront of him for selection for the midfield/small player role.
i can't really see where adkins would fit into our best 22 yet.
he may spend 2003 in the WAFL and get some game time when players are injured. could fit into the team once we reshuffle our lineup when roo and banners retire.

Sad to see Andy go. I don't know enough on Adkins, but hope our coach knows what he is doing.
Andy has been inconsistent of recent times and I wish him all the best.
With Chick in the side, I think we are only on the way up. Our team of so called no-name players seem to attract a lot of interest from other clubs.
Have you thought that Adkins has really been obtained to bolster the flagging stocks at East Perth?.

Excellent point, masai. It's a conspiracy and Tony Micale, Andy Lovell and vicki are behind it. :D

I'm indifferent about the deal. At least we have so many midfielders that competition will be hot so that the players really will have to perform to make it into the top 22.
Williams was okay, but at least he isn't a key position player. I hope we can develop two of Seaby, Glass, Gaspar or McDougall by the end of this coming season.

Good trade by the Eagles IMO.
Congratulations Eagles on getting Chick and Adkins for #10 and Williams. Definite winners.

It's rude to congratulate yourself. A bit like clapping your own speech.

The recruitment of Adkins could be a Woosha coup, Woosha is the kind of guy who has an iron fist behind his Pharmaceutical jacket and he's the kind of guy who as the golden eye for talent behind his innocent eyes.
Adkins has aggression, flair, skill and speed. Far out this kid is quick on the draw.
Behind his knucklehead appearance is a quality player.
Mark my words:
" if he fails I'll will deny all responsibility for this statement, if he delivers I'll share all accolades with youse all"
i recokn this is a good trade, i really do.
Williams was consistent and always gave his all, but he just never had that killer potential.
Adkins has very good potential and although he is all over teh shop at time, Woosha may just sort him out.
He's not just a midfield. Very dangerous of the half forward flank which is where i'd like to see him next year with spurts in the midfield.
At the beginning of the season we were talking about players needing to make the transition to becoming regular players. Two years ago Williams looked to be a good player for the future. This year he has been in and out of the side with a lot of bench time. IMO he hasn't stood up. I also got the impression from talking to him that he wasn't happy. Maybe not having a lot of AFL game time contributed. But it may well be that he asked for a move.
Anyhow, good luck to him. He's given us some good moments to remember.
Adkins looked brilliant a couple of years ago. And only 21.

Well If he is as quick as they say maybe trial him on the wing. If he can handle the position, Wirrpunda can move on to a half forward flank.

Nothing wrong with having midfield depth. The couple of games I saw Adkins play he was real good, and would probably go close to knocking Braun/ Banfield out of the side. It will probably make us the quickest midfield in the league too, especially if you have Judd, Kerr, Cousins, Chambers and Adkins all on the field at the same time,.
I hate to play the devil's advocate, but if we do lose Judd next year (and I hope we don't) the Eagles will be able to go after a key position player in exchage, as the midfield now definitely seems covered

WC have neptured and developed a very good midfield and to be honest, I can't see Adkins getting a start in there. The potential is there, but he will have to work very hard in the reserves for his spot.
Ditto with Williams at Collingwood.
Good luck to him...

I was all set to bag this trade, but Adkins should fit in nicely at the Eagles. He'll love getting a run on the dry track at Subi, and with the ball being fed from a very solid midfield, should have a ball at half forward.
His light frame may be a factor if he can't find space, but I dare say there's enough quality in the likes of Gardiner, Lynch and Wilson for space to be made available up forward.
VOR - Love it. Very funny. Sadly though, poor Damien will be another wasted at Swans. Or are you garlics hoping to get him as you are losing Andrew?? Another conspiracy theory in the making !!

Well Im annoyed. I dont really know anything about Adkins but Williams was one of my favourite players and IMO was criminally underused last season, spending way too much time on the bench. This contributed to his poor season.
I hope he goes really well at Collingwood to make WC regret that they traded him away. Adkins better be good.

Pick your lip up and get back in the game.
Williams clearly does not want to be here and I'd suggest he made that known pretty early this year. Williams would struggle to make our top 22 anyway (I'd have Chambers and Haynes ahead of him at HFF), and Adkins could become a super player for us.
I wish him the best aswell, but still think the club has done the right thing.
On a side note, I'm very happy Embley is still around too!!!

Hell no!!
Us guys at Swans need all the help we can get....
Starting to worry that Swans may be the club out of the WAFL to bring it back to 8 teams....:(
9 is way too many

If Adkins turns out to be a real good player I will be happy as larry, it's all about the Eagles as a team not individuals but you cant blame me for being a bit disappointed about losing one of my favourite players. I was the same but worse when Scotty went :(

Williams is no Scotty
Williams wanted to leave, Scotty was desperate to stay at the Eagles.
I still remember it as one of the worst days of my football life when Scotty was delisted!!!

Im only disappointed and a little sad that Williams has left...but I was truly heartbroken when Cummings was delisted. Particularly because he wanted so desperately to be a part of West Coast. :(
Im still bitter about it and it is my only gripe about Whoosha as coach.
Cummings was always gonna get the axe. He is lucky he is/was playing AFL.
Just look at what he did in 2002, and you will realise Woosha made the right decision.

Yeah he made the right decision but it didnt make it any less painful.

I can easily live with this trade. Adkins wasn't getting the chance at Collingwood and Williams was a fringe-player, not performing well enough on a regular basis at AFL level. A good sign was that Adkins is keen to come to Perth and will be ready for a full pre-season with us.
And Adkins should go to West Perth, since thats where Williams played WAFL :)

I honestly believe this will be a win-win situation. Subi oval will suit Adkins, he can get the ball and RUN! as he is SO QUICK!
MM will prob get the best out of Williams again and he will turn out to be a vital part of the Collingwood team
Good luck to both of them (especially Chipper:D)
