So what do you do in here for voting in the home and away games.?

Aussie_Roo

I wasn't around last season, but it sounds like a good idea - maybe we could call the Pagan's Ducks Best Player Award.

Daphne
11 Feb 2001, 04:32
Well I thought that Shinboners or Rooboy 96 could take charge of it, and select 3 members off this board each week to do the voting, simple 1, 2 and 3 voting.

3-2-1 sounds simplest. You'd need a few judges though, to stop any favourite/least favourite player bias from creeping through. Looks like we have 6 weeks or so to organise it, perhaps we should take expressions of interest then from our total pool of judges work out a weekly roster thingy OR take a weekly poll of willing judges and pick out a few from that OR take a weekly poll and get all those who nominate themsleves to give a 3-2-1 that way nobody misses out.

Hi,

I was involved wuth another roos fan in runningn the voting of the Internet B & F on the Official Roos Forum

Here is a link to our final results
http://www.roos.com.au/phorum/read.html?id=8473

As you can see we got people to vote and then the person with the most votes was given 5 points 4 votes for the second best etc.

The thing that kept it goign was that Daniel Chan and i kept totals and we would give thw players in order but not how amny votes they had, That way it was a surprise to many who voted. We had 25 people post their votes in 1 game

If we were to do it on here i would be more than willing to help you.

Paul

Sounds like a great way of doing it... I am quite happy to look after it with you if you want... is there a need to limit those who vote with this system... from how I read it there isn't and that is the beauty of the system...

Daffy what's this 69 business... are you getting funny with me???

Paulkanga2000

Rooboy96

i don't think we need to limit the number of people to vote. if we can get all of the pagan Ducks to vote plus CIK, Damir and any other roo fans on these boards to vote every week then it will be ok. i guess the same rules would apply as you and i would keep the overall totals as to make it more interesting.

paulkanga2000so is there any need to hide the count... or should we just have a running total... does it really matter???

Shinboners
13 Feb 2001, 09:32
I don't see the point in duplicating a vote that already happens on the official forum. From what I can figure out, most of the people here also appear on the official forum, so perhaps just the one best and fairest count (on the official board) would be enough.

Rooboy 96
13 Feb 2001, 10:41
Shinners.. I don't post on the official board anymore... well since nearly all the residents (not on mass but close enough) welcome Kev from Essendon... and shouted me down for saying he should piss off to BomberTalk....

But if that is what everyone wants I am quite happy to abstain from voting...

Daphne
13 Feb 2001, 10:46
Well if Paul is going to do that on the official board again then perhaps we could just have the one two and three on here with three selected judges each week, that will make for a bit of discussion during the week and see if we really know what we are talking about. From the head not the heart.

Shinboners
13 Feb 2001, 10:51
Well, if enough people want to vote here, then we can do a vote here as well. And we should adopt the same system used in the official forum as it removes any week to week distortion when a different number of people vote.

In the offical forum, the number of people who voted varied with the result of the game. So, if North thrashed an opponent, then you'd find that 20 plus people would vote. If North lost, then maybe only 10 or so would vote.

Anyway, it wouldn't take very long to tally up votes and keep track of it, so if everyone else is keen to a vote here, then count me in.

I am pretty sure it was Rooboy96... no space...

IMHO the Official forum should be for members only... with non-members not even permitted to view...

But I got howled down over that too...

If it were faster to do, I'd love to go back & read some of those posts.

Kev pissed me off a few times with his lame contributions.

Someone suggested to me tonight that he is probably still around but using a different name.

Rooboy my friend, id been wondering why you had been so quiet on the 'main stage'. Come on back i think you will find with the word out that this year it wont be so 'bombercentric' besides, i miss seeing someone with you way with words in the arena.

Shinners i saw your reply to Arch in the Bombers forum, could you send me a copy of that spreadsheet as well. E-mails a hotmail, but i can send you the real one if you need it.

Cheers.

No problem. It's nothing sophisticated, but it worked for me when keeping track of the votes and making sure everything was counted properly.

Okay, from round 1, we'll run a best and fairest award on this board. I'll be happy to collect and tally the votes. Shall we use the same system that Paul Kanga and I used on the official forum last season?

Daphne
13 Mar 2001, 05:37
Couldnt we just do the good old 1 2 3 vote Shinners, I dont really care, its just that I am a simple person and all this other arty farty stuff confuses me. Whatever, the maj rules of course.

Shinners,

Would be happy to back you up in assisting you in doing the votes for this board too

Did you get the email from francis trainor from the club late last week (People who put their email address on the renewal form for their membship) it seems they are trialling a weekly email to all members. It also seems they are going to re-develop the offical website in a magazine style format which means we may not have a forum for a while to do the votes for the H & A season.

I was a regular voter on the roo forum. I thought the system used by Daniel and Paul was excellent. One thing I am worried about. How do we counteract the brownlow blonde factor. How many blonde players do we have at North ?

Shinboners
13 Mar 2001, 09:04
Paul

Yeah, I got the e-mail newsletter (note that the Dish was featured in the article!!! http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/biggrin.gif ). Maybe we should e-mail them and see if we can do the count and include it in the newsletter?

Hotham

The blonde factor? Maybe we could take a second set of votes for the hairstyle of the week http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

How will i know who to vote for, if we have more that three blonde players. I can feel performance anxiety setting in already. Do we really have any hair proud players at North ?. Well Mick is definitely out, because he aint got any. I would say Shannon Grant he seems is a little hair proud.

Shinners,

Yeah i reckon we should email francis and let the club know what we are doing. Maybe this could be the way to get it done offically through the club eh Daniel?

Anyone else going to the Practice match against the Dockers on Saturday?

You have to be joking Shannons hair looks disgusting at the moment, and this is the first year that Corey seems to have got it right, Dillon Smiths hair looks like a woolly sheep, but who cares as long as they can play football.

Regarding the forum B&F last year did anyone do a comparison with the Syd Barker to see how close we got with the finishing order?

Cheers

I can't remember who came 2nd and 3rd after Peter Bell in the Syd Barker, but on the internet best and fairest, it went:

1. Brent Harvey (48.5 points)
2. Wayne Carey (48 points)
3. Peter Bell (43.5)
4. Byron Pickett (40.5)
5. David King (32.3)

The Duck is pretty hair proud, as you put it. A while ago he categorically denied on the radio that he was getting Yeah Yeah treatment but admitted to using a special "lotion" to ward off baldness.

Corey McKernan refused to have his photo taken for last year's player shots at the same time as the others. It was scheduled to occur without notice to the players straight after a training session & he wanted to go home first & clean himself up. The rumour is, he got a haircut for the photo.

I think John Blakey is hair-proud. His crop never appears unruly or unkempt.

I reckon Shane Clayton uses only quality styling products.

There's a player wearing number 41 for the magoos. He has a fantastic head of hair.

Leigh Colbert. Definitely hair proud!

Jason McCartney. (See John Blakey)

Check out Joe McLaren's player photo. Do I see some styling product there?

Dylan Smith is doing alright on the hair front. I bet he polls a couple of Brownlow votes this year. And he's blonde, to boot.

David Calthorpe. I think he's in denial. That bald patch is getting bigger & his hair is getting shaggier.

Mark Hilton, well there's a few chicks waiting with baited breath for his next 1950's army-cut. With cuts that short, he probably only gets away with 4 per year. I don't know if you call that hair proud or lazy.

Stuart Cochrane. I think this boy is the hair proudest at North. At least it gets him a lot of attention.

We'll do a best and fairest vote here. Same system as on the official North forum last season...everyone votes 3-2-1, I count up the votes and allocate 5-4-3-2-1 points for the five highest vote getters of each round.

If you go back and read that whole post Rooboy96, then you would realise that it is actually USC herself writing to you http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/biggrin.gif: Actually what she is asking you to do is disgusting.

Now I want to know what is happening with the voting are we going to do it or are we going to leave it. Bearing in mind that I dont vote until I see the replay, as it is hard for me to vote until then, seeing as I only ever see about 40% of the game when I am there, most of the time I am either in the tunnel or behind by hands.

I've only just noticed this pearler myself.
I think us girls, boys can too if you want should have a 3,2,1 vote on the haircuts too.

There is another player you left off this list.

SPIKE, I'm not sure what his number is, but fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer will be able to spot him at the next MK match or at training.
